As a precursor to the release of "Men Guðs Hond Er Sterk," the band delivered a video for first single and opening track, “Ábær.” Offers Kapnas, “‘Ábær’ is about sailing through a hurricane, through ocean valleys, in a rowing boat and surviving it. The waves crashing, the wind and rain beating and biting you, death greeting you everywhere you look. Perseverance, melancholy, dread, willpower, endurance and doubt interweave with every note and word.”

I'm not gonna lie, when I saw the band name / song title combination I was fully ready for this to be more of that "modern folk metal" style (heavy on the "folk", light on the "metal") which is so popular nowadays to the point of getting oversaturated and tiring. Amazing song. The entire band firing on all cylinders. The video captures the atmosphere of the song beautifully.
After 60 seconds of one single im already mentally deciding how high to put this on my aoty list.
My favorite "new find" of the last six years or so. Just superb atmosphere in the music they create heightened by Jon's otherworldly vocal talent. I hope that they finally receive the acknowledgement that they so richly deserve on a worldwide scale.

Amazing to hear such dark power and impressive weight in any detail of the song. A tiny tear drop of old Gojira guitar power found it's way into this and of course the dense and overwhelming soundscape of Iotunn! Please more of this! And congrats for such an amazing audio engineering work that brings back the intense early 2000's vibes!
