One more thing I forgot to mention in the video (it was hard to remember everything for this one!). By the time I was ready to start taking the antibiotics the derm prescribed me, my PD had cleared up about 90% so I was considering not starting them (I think in big part due to the starred products above) but then two days later it got worse instead of getting better and that's when I started the antibiotics. If you don't or can't go the antibiotics route, I hope the products starred above can help you because they helped me get my skin in a good place even if the antibiotics ensured it wouldn't come back for a while.
A couple of comments about PD and diet, just from my own research and conversations with my derm. PD in one of the simplest explanations is a breakdown in your skin's natural protective barrier, which is part of your immune system. Changing your diet can help improve the healthy bacteria in your gut, which is where 70% of your immune system lives. If you improve your diet, it will improve your gut health, which will improve your immune system, which will improve your skin's protective barrier, which will improve and help prevent PD. It's not a direct connection (i.e., eat these foods to clear up PD), but more of a holistic trickle down effect. I recommend taking a probiotic in general, but especially when trying to clear a PD flare up to help attack the issue from all angles.
I’m having this for the first time in my life and it just blew up in 3 days. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one on fire, I thought maybe what my dermatologist gave me was making it worse. Knowing this is normal for the healing process makes me feel soooo much better.
@@Ella_Marc hi try using raw apple cider vinegar with the mother . dilute with clean water in a little container and shake the bottle clean with a q tip on the PD and it will go away less then 4 days mine cleared up quick after using this its natural and effective ! and also affordable if u can't see or afford a dermatologist . and switch to fluoride free toothpaste !!! hope this helps ! also organic Indian NEEM pills are great for the skin and also help PD and just clearing up the skin in general !!! start out with a teaspoon on apple cider vinegar first and then work ur way up as ur skin gets used to it ! I got a little clear bottle from Walmart or target and it was only a 1$
Forget what you’ve seen on google about Perioral dermatitis being caused by toothpaste or steroids. If you have reached adulthood and are experiencing PD for the first time but have been using toothpaste your whole life and never used steroids on your face, then your PD is likely due to the skincare and cosmetic products you are using that are actually damaging your skin barrier over time. Perioral dermatitis is actually a skin barrier issue. Once the skin barrier is damaged, it can no longer defend itself effectively against common irritants and bacteria we come into contact with. It is therefore susceptible to bacterial and fungal overgrowths. Instead of reaching for antibiotics or applying anti fungal creams which will irritate the skin barrier further, the only thing that will resolve your PD is allowing the barrier to heal. This can only be done through zero therapy, where you don’t put absolutely anything on your skin, not even moisturiser, you wash with water very minimally (a couple of times a week) and you allow your skin the time for it to go through its natural cycles of regeneration. The skin is an organ that is constantly working to maintain itself. So don’t let dermatologists brainwash you into thinking you need products to heal it. If you have severe PD like mine, your skin could get worse for 6 months or so before it starts to get better, but after a year of zero therapy, my skin has finally healed and I am no longer reliant on moisturisers.
Thank you so much for sharing this. You have no idea how much you’ve helped me by sharing everything that you’ve used and your personal experience. After being diagnosed with PD, I went out and purchased the products you’ve recommended and it immediately helped. My skin is clearing up and I feel so much more confident! Thank you!!!
i’m 13, about to be 14 in a month and i’ve had perioral dermatitis for about 3 years and i’ve tried everything. i’m gonna keep you guys updated to see if it works for me.
I’ve changed toothpastes to fluoride free, switched hair conditioner to a natural product and have really scaled back on actives! Also ensuring I sleep on silk to help my skin too... still here a little bit but honestly it’s not bad!
I felt so lost as I just discovered that I’m most likely dealing with PD and have been suffering for a month now with it. THANK YOU for this video. Ordering so many of these products and hoping they’ll help me too.
Its overgrowth of yeast & autoimmune thrown in. It starts young & gets worse as u age esp in winter. I went to derm. Dandruff s.poo & elidel made it worse. I use apple cider vinegar & water 1:1. Shake bottle 1st. Mix 1 tsp of both. Put on face/air dry. It burned (annoying) but bareable. Went from red to pink overnight. Day 3 no burn barely pink. I had moderate outbreak. It took 5 secs to do it. Skin was soft not dried out from acv. Then use pea size of virgin coconut oil after. I also use probiotics 1 pill, 2x a day, and vit c&d which I'd take anyway. 2 prong approach. Internal/external. Day 1 went from red to pink. Day 5 almost gone. I see my face in mirror now. Not red/pink first Skin peeled some. I'm also trying candida probiotic soap from Amazon 10$. Makes my skin feel like what glass skin looks like. No burning. So soft. No running for moisturizer after. I eat tsp coconut oil a day too. I put in coffee. No diet change. If u eat sugar double up probiotics for a a day or 2. You dont impossible restrictive diet to live SD free. Gotta try that toothpaste
PD is also a lot more common in girls who are more into makeup/beauty because different creams or face washes can peel off the protective layer of the skin around the sensitive areas of your face (folds of your nose) and so all the bacteria on your skin that is usually harmless now sinks in and causes the rash!
Hi Carli. It's 3/2021 and I just caught your video. Mine is horrible. It absolutely consumes me. Thank you so much for coming on and giving us some options.
I know this is an older video, but so thankful I found this (my son is having his 1st boyt of PD). This is the most helpful, informative video I have seen on the topic! Great job & appreciate you & the content!!
For anybody that's struggling with perioral dermatitis please ask your doctor or dermatologist to prescribe the cream pro topic 0.1%. Within a week it completely cleared my dermatitis and its steroid free so its safe to use! This cream works wonders for me and it has never failed me, hopefully it helps everybody else who tries it! Btw it burns like crazy the first 2 applications but it goes away after that and leaves you with clear skin!
@@kaylakay6783 glad to hear that! My only problem now is when i stop using the cream it starts coming back😑 lol also i notice if i drink alcohol while using it my face gets very flushed
This was a miracle cream for me at first but then became less effective over time… did you find anything else that worked? Mine is really bad all over my face.
This is the only helpful video I’ve seen on this, thank you 🙌🏻 I have been suffering with this for a couple of months even after going to the doctor, it’s an awful thing to deal with.
Your video just came up on my feed and I am so pleased. I am dealing with this problem and it is terrible! All over my t-zone! U hve been so so helpful and I’m so grateful😉x
I got PD when I was prescribed nasal steroids for a throat infection and now I’m still dealing with it after stopping them over 3 months ago. It’s so frustrating
Amazing tips!! I’ve tried everything you have minus the antibiotics. Also mad I wasted money on the Soolantra. The thing that really helped me the most was sleeping with Calamine lotion on my face! Probably because of the zinc and it dries so it won’t mess up your pillow. I’ve been using it 2 days now after weeks of some type of dermatitis from a microneedling treatment (do not ever do this!) and already my skin is so much better. Going to order the face wash & cream you recommended :)
WARNING TO THOSE PRESCRIBED ANTIBIOTICS - always take a probiotic with it. Excessive antibiotic use can have some dastardly consequences (ie: c diff, which can kill you). They also have antibiotic creams available by prescription to use. Thanks for this video!
Update: I was on doxycycline and the regimen WORKS. Well, at least for me. I also have switched to powder foundation instead of liquid and it is much more gentle on my skin. I still use kenocotazole face wash as well as pimecrolimus cream and it helps keep redness at bay. I no longer have flaking, bumps, or anything like that. Only slight redness. Again, thank you for the video!!!
Thank you for making this video. I’m currently dealing with PD for the second time. The first time was triggered from birth control. But this time, trying out new skincare products for video tutorial/commercials, caused my skin to flare up. It has been such a nightmare and feels like this time, it’s harder to combat. Anyway, I’m going to try out some of your suggestions. Thanks for all the info! Your skin is beautiful!! ✨
Kate Jenkins, I have a question for you! :-) the first time you had it triggered by the birth control? I have the same now! Did you stop taking birth control? Or what Did you do? I don’t know or I should stop my birth control because of acne... Thank you for your answer!!
Dandruff is also a dermatitis too. Dandruff shampoo also has tea tree oil and zinc in it. So what you can do is when you shower wash your body first and then wash your hair last with dandruff shampoo and let all the dander shampoo run down your face and scrub your face with it. I like the Pert dandruff shampoo because it has conditioner built into it. I really like the way it leaves my hair.
If you’re struggling with PD, PLEASE buy the Avene repair cream. It is truly like a miracle cream. After about 2 weeks you should see it improving God willing! 💕
Thank you so much for sharing this! Trying out the Avene cream, spectro face wash, and zinc oxide ointment to start out with, so we'll see how it goes!
I'm 23 and have had this since I was 3, it's a never ending battle. 🙄 I take antibiotics at least 3-4 times a year to help clear it up I have massive flare up's and even on antibiotics can take a few weeks to budge and start to clear ! I HIGHLY RECOMMED soblone cream !! For every day use to avoid flare up's ! Also after working with dermatologist for years and trying to find a good sturdy routine As we discovered this is probably going to be an ongoing issue, we've found the more simple the better, a gentle cleanser and a good moisturizer routine! Helps heaps. Things I've learnt.... Stay away from nasal sprays, stay away from soaps. Stay away from chemicals ect perfume and cleaning products. Use vegan makeup with a simple ingredients Base.
This EXACT thing happened to me! Used a steroid cream to spot treat some acne and then had the withdrawal manifest itself into PD... I had it for mooonths and it was so awful! The only thing that helped was antibiotics and the azelaic acid. Once it cleared I continued using azelaic acid in the form of Melazepam (bought on amazon) and my skin/acne has never been better! I do a light layer every night and my acne is gone, texture is better, tone.... it’s my holy grail!
Stina Nina It did not come back. the antibiotics were definitely responsible for getting rid of it. The moisture barrier in those areas is damaged still though years later.
SweetASMR mine too I did doxycycline 3 months and have no bumps but the skin barrier is destroyed in that area (nose and mouth) . All creams burn and sting . Did you find skincare routine to help with the barrier repair ???
Stina Nina Seriously same with me! I was on doxycycline for a long time and my skin barrier is still pretty damaged there although it has gotten better with time. I have a skin care routine that doesn’t “help” it per se but it also doesn’t damage it further either. I use vanicream and cleanse with that twice it’s very gentle and fragrance free, then I use melazepam ( that’s the azaleac acid I use I buy it on Amazon) That really is a great acne treatment but it also calms inflammation, redness and angry skin, Then I use CeraVe moisturizer over the top. I have heard that anything with a lot of ceramides in it is really helpful for skin barrier repair. I’ll have to look in my phone but I saved a recommendation from someone about a product that was a ceramide capsule that you break open and mix with your moisturizer,I’ll reply to this again once I find it in my phone.
SweetASMR yes plz do! I tried caravee but it burns so bad . Apparently is your skin barrier is really compromised most cerimide creams are great BUY not hyrulonic acid. The skin can’t handle it. Unfortunately most ceremide drama also contain hyrulonic acid like caravee 🙁
it's so weird because I'm using that exact same face cream from avene because I read that it helps with PD but then I watched another video and this dermatologist said occlusive creams aren't good for PD and that cream from avene is occlusive so I don't even know anymore 😭
Thanks for this video! So informational. I’m currently dealing with my 3rd outbreak... the worst one. The first time I believe it was stress and hormones, the second time was definitely my new moisturizer that was very heavy, and this time (still in the process of figuring it out but I think it’s a combination of hormones/ stress and overuse of heavy topicals that suppressed the problem which my Derm said is bacterial). I wanted to say that I used the Avene Cicalfate cream to calm the second flare and it worked great. But I think I over used it because after many months of using it my skin began to react badly to it. My Derm explained that the cream is a skin barrier protector and while it protects the skin it can also prevent the skin from breathing and due to the other heavy ingredients in the cream, can cause issues. So it’s best to use only a short period of time then switch to an oil free moisturizer. Avene makes a few of those! I’m so appreciative of your comments about the antibiotic because I, too, did NOT want to go on one but finally relented and my Derm prescribed me a low dose of doxy for 2 weeks. Thank you for talking about your healing process while on the antibiotic! I did do a food sensitivity test and discovered I’m extremely sensitive to gluten and dairy and sensitive to eggs as well as some fruits. After 6 months of no gluten and dairy there was almost no change in my rash. What I do think has helped is high doses of histamine degrading probiotics. I take gutpro 3 which I highly recommend! Thanks again for your great video!
epsom salt mini baths for your face every day will speed up the healing and welleda diaper cream , will work magic! i did it without any drugs...from really severe to the clean skin within 10 days ...
i LOVE you! i have had perioral dermatitis for about 8 months now and my skin has been terrible since then. not only because of the dermatitis and the cream treatment i got but also because all my skin products that i normally use made my skin even worse. i saw this video a while ago and decided to look up the products you recommended fearing that none of them would be available here in Sweden, but to my surprise i found a big 50% sale on avene products and those have really helped my skin to recover now. i will probably have a hard time using any other skin products in the future because i love these avene products so much. thank you so much for making this video ❤️
many thanks for this video! i am using a cream with zinc oxide (like the one you described, in the Netherlands the name is Sudocream) and it was just great!! it is really clearing my skin!!! i was already using vinegar and it helped but not as great as the cream! i am also taking supplements of vit D and vit E because they are really related to dermatitis. I am trying to eat healthier and avoid gluten and sugar. I also switched my soap, face and body cream to ones for sensitive / allergic skin made with natural/organic or neutral ingredients. My skin is much better than 2 days ago I am so happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you very much for your video your suggestions helped tons 🙌🏼 I had a very horrible outbreak near to my nose during the first week of April 2020 my first one and I hope the last one 😣😭 I have tried everything for days nothing worked Then finally I watched this video I started taking Doxycycline 100 mg per day (May the 16th) Spectro face wash ..amazon Avene cícalfate cream ( started using it on May the 21st)..avene website Clotrinazole 1% ( May the 22nd) ..local drugstore Drinking tons of water A green apple per day Avoiding junk food Today is May the 28th huge improvement maybe a 70% rednes and bumps are almost gone 👏👏👏👏 Thank god is something curable I thought it was something worst 😭😭 I hope this review helps someone out there Stay safe everyone 😘 ..and remember everything has a solution!
I came across your channel looking for a skin care after almost a full recovery of POD. My dermatologist has been great with treating my condition. He proscribed me 50 mg of Doxy 2 times a day, and also oral ivermectin. Which worked absolutely miracles, and so did the ivermectin Topical aka (saloontra oral & topical). Avene was the worst thing I put on my skin, and I wouldn’t recommend to anyone! Although everyone’s skin is different.
I’ve been battling with this condition for a year and half and I’m loosing my mind. Thank you for recommending these products and sharing your journey it’s so hard when medications don’t work and I’ve tried every medication regime and have seen four dermatologists. It’s the worst.
I wish I found your video weeks ago! I thought it was adult acne or eczema, used a steriod cream and boom...it spread all over my face. Now I'm on 6 weeks of doxycycline. Definitely going to use some if your tips! Thank you so much for sharing your experience!
Hi! I tried your suggestions. I think they’re excellent suggestions because my skin was just so sensitive and even now that it seems to be getting better I will keep using the no fluoride toothpaste and the facewash. The avene cream helped more than the regular cream I was using. However my rash was not really going away. I wanted to suggest to anyone who is dealing with this that I also tried apple cider vinegar and aloe Vera gel. These two really burned in the beginning but have started to heal my skin. I use the avene cream after I used these two. I have not gone to the doctor because of the pandemic so I’m so thankful for your video. Just thought I’d add the acv and aloe Vera gel because that is what I saw really started to heal my skin.
This is the best video I've seen on the subject. You're the only one that hasn't said just go to the dermatologist like I did. I really appreciate you giving alternatives even though I plan on going to a doctor anyway because this is a nightmare lol
@@TheGarsowTwins thank you I didn't make it to the doc today for myself I spent 4 hours in the doctor's office with my daughter and never had time to go for myself. But I picked up some Butt paste and it's way, way, better. It's amazing.Idk I'll even need to go into the doctor tomorrow.
Thank you for posting this!! I had PD years ago and eventually took oral abx. It just came back (I think because I’m in nursing school and wearing a sweaty mask for 13 hours at a time) and I’d like to try to get rid of it without abx but we’ll see. Definitely going to try what you recommended!!
When do you apply the Avene cream vs. the diaper rash cream? Like one on top of the other? Or one in the morning and one at night? Any tips you can offer in terms of when and how to apply which would be super appreciated. Thanks for making this video.
Wow I can’t believe how similar your experience with perioral dermatitis is to mine! I use cerave face wash. I can only use zinc on my face for sunscreen. I got misdiagnosed at first and was given steroid cream. Same thing with the toothpaste as well! I found out I am allergic to cinnamon as well, it triggers my dermatitis. I can’t even smell it!
Hi! Thank you for your tips! I am currently struggling with PD and I am curious if you could comment on the phases of your healing. Did it become dry at first, did the small bumps disappear first, etc? It can be hard to know if I am seeing any improvement with the changes I make. Thank you!
Rhiannon Robke hi there! Yes, for me, the red bumps started to heal and dry up first, it got very dry and flaky in those areas but I made it a point to not exfoliate and heal on it’s own and it did.
THANK YOU. I’ve been struggle with this for about five months and I’ve gotten severe depression because of it. My dermatologist doctor didn’t know what else to do. I will try your suggestions. It’s my last hope
Please can you let me know what dosage level you took of the antibiotics doxycycline? I know you said you only took 2 weeks, but what level? 100 mcg 50mcg ??? Once a day or twice a day? Thank you for being you and your story really had an impact on me thank you!!! I am at the beginning of your journey. I was told I got POD about a month ago due to overkilling my face with facial beauty products argh!!! I never had a facial regiment so I decided to try one and what a mistake. Too much mixing of everything.
I just got a rash by my mouth never had this before. It doesn't itch or hurt, thinking its the mask but I ordered the Avene face cream and will try the no products for a while, thank you for explaining for us.
Thank you for this video and for recomending the ordenary brand! Ive had PDfor 5 years now and i just descoverd The Ordinary. Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%, and this has helped me so much! Its the first product that have singel handedly reduced my inflemation, redness and the spread of it! 100% recomend!
If only my dermatologist had explained it to me for longer than 2 minutes. I've been very depressed trying to self- medicate. Right now I'm trying the butt paste. The doxycycline I took for two weeks and helped a lot but then when I stopped it came back. I used tretinoin on my skin leading up to PD. I was on accutane for 6 months last year. That's why I used the tretinoin........
Hi Carli, thanks for making this video! I’ve had this condition for five years on and off. I have done the antibiotics twice before and am giving them another go now. It’s tough that it comes back! You said you didn’t put anything on your skin for four days at one point..did you then only apply the Aveene cream? Or did you use other moisturizers in the day time? Thanks!
Thank you so much for your story Seriously you don’t understand how you helped me with your video. I am one month into behind told I have PD. Please let me know what was the low dosage for the doxycycline you were prescribed ?? I don’t want to take the pills but I just may have to. I prefer the low dodge but what low dosage did you take?
Hi, have u get well from that? Bcs i feel that too for 4 years. And now that’s keep happen to me and gone and back again like u feel. Its happen on around my mouth, beside & bottom my nose
@@Sepuchin I found that it’s gone away after time but it will come back for a little bit and go again but I haven’t found a way to control it I just always have Vaseline so it doesn’t crack or get too inflamed
Hello! Thank you for sharing your experience! I’m currently fighting PD! I bought the Spectro cleanser, and used it twice~ it has a really strong chemical smell, is that ok since it’s supposed to be fragrance free?? Is spectro more gentle? Or cetaphil’s gentle cleanser? Thank you for your help! ❤
You were so informative! Thank you so so much for all of your recommendations! I've noticed I started to break out when I'm stressed and hormones are all sorts out of whack. We have a 1 and a half year old and an almost 2 month old so I've been a little stressed lol. Thank you so much again for this!!!
Hi! Thank you so so much for the video; it is very helpful! I am suffering from PD right now, and my GP doesn't know much about it. My doctor finally prescribed Doxycycline after I specifically asked for it, but he did not tell me how long I should take it or what dosage. In your case, what dosage (mg per day) did you take for those 2 weeks?
This is a wonderful video! What antibiotic cream did you use in your nose? (Such a great idea btw - never heard a derm suggest this before but it makes sense!)
I rlly hope this works. I’ve had mine since I was in 2nd grade and now I’m in 6th grade almost 7th. The thing makes me a little sad and and sometimes I get bullied about it.
Only thing that worked for me is sudocreme and eating absolutely no sugar (including fruit) did this 4 years ago and now only get small flare ups but I know now it’s just my body telling me I need to chill on the sugar :~)
Thanks for the advise and sharing your research. I didn't take the Doxycycline antibiotics dermatologist prescribed but after your video I will, thanks.
I have been on the antibiotic gel for one day so far but Im only using CeraVe cleanser and moisturizer cream but I just got the diper rash cream you mentioned and hope it helps my rash not be so noticable. First time ever getting anything like this. I think mine came from a new Neutrogena cleanser I was using. Cause it came on fast after I started using it. Thank you for your video!
Thx for wonderful info. You mentioned cleanser but no mention of moisturizer. You had spot treatment cream but for overall skin which would be a good moisturizer?
We touch our faces too much too. It itches and we dont realize were doing it. Inside home in winter with dust/dander. Skin is inflamed and we touch with dirty hand, inflaming SD more. I need to train myself to stop doing it. Easier said than done. It's done unconsciously lol. An air filter can help if u have pets.
Has absolutely nothing to do with touching the skin and even this lady don't have it that bad. PD is acne meets dermatitis so if you're prone to either PD can follow as you get older! It's mostly the results of having poison injected either with Botox or in my case Cortisone injections into my spine and Fibromyalgia treatments. I have had this constantly and didn't know what PD was but it's definitely not simply from touching the face. It's what's injected into the body or eaten!
started getting the rash around my mouth at the beginning of my second trimester in pregnancy. Couldn’t figure out what it was but it flared up whenever i went to my parents place and they have hard water so i thought it was that. i tried to hydrate the area but it would continue to peel by the end of the day. eventually i just stuck with a centella asiatica cream and a toner. the centella asiatica cream helped a lot with the redness. My OB suggested i use OTC hydrocortisone but i didn’t feel comfortable using it so close to my mouth, plus it didn’t itch so i didn’t use it. im glad i didn’t 😭. I think mine is hormonal + immunocompromised during pregnancy. what helped for me. Leaving my skin alone. i ONLY put the unscented purito centella cream now and thats cuz i have dry skin and cant stand the feeling of it. if i wear make up i use a gentle unscented cleanser. otherwise i just take a wash cloth dampened with filtered water and use that in the morning and at night. I stopped using sunscreen as well which hurts me. I try to stay out of the sun by being indoors, wearing a hat and trying to only go out in afternoon or early morning when the sun isn’t too strong. I also sometimes just check the UV level outside. I used to also brush my teeth in the shower, stopped doing that. haven’t switched my tooth paste or shampoo/conditioner yet. but probably will in the future. good luck to anyone else fighting this.
When you mentioned going cold turkey and putting nothing on your skin except water for a few days, did you do that day and night or just at night time? I feel like the rest of my face will break out if I don’t wash or moisturise for that long !
Hi! I tried this and it really helped me! I only washed my face at night with a very gentle cleanser. In the morning I might pat my face with a bit of water and a makeup eraser. If I will be outside I apply sunscreen only. If I had a day where I didn't leave my house I applied nothing and did not wash my face at night either. It really helped!
I have vey mild perioral dermatitis, no rash but I cannot get over the shadow or redness. I could never get it off and it honestly makes my face darker. Any recommendations?
Thank you for your concise and informative roundup of what worked for you. I took notes! My dermatologist started right off with the rosacea treatment. On reflection, I realized it was my toothpaste that set it off when I saw that the mucosal lining of my mouth was peeling each time I brushed - just the thinnest sheets of the lining of the inside of my mouth were coming off. Yuck. After I started using some toothpaste for "sensitive teeth" that I had in the drawer, along with the rosacea cream (generic metronidazole), the healing of my skin went quickly. To my great relief, I've continued to use both for the last five years with no relapse but until watching your video I didn't know what ingredients in the toothpaste I was avoiding. Thanks once again, this will give me greater choices as I really dislike the toothpaste I've been using but was afraid to switch! Blessings, ThePlagueFairy
This was super helpful, thanks! Just went to urgent care for my PD and was prescribed a steroid cream even though I told him all the research I’d done said not to use one AND I used a leftover steroid cream I’d had on hand a few months ago which obvi didn’t help. Dr knew this and prescribed it anyways so I’m definitely going to try your suggestions and see what happens.
I got steroids too and I don’t blame them bc I looked so inflamed and they didn’t know what it was. Just saw the dermatologist today and he gave me paperwork about how steroids make it worse and make it spread even though it might seem to help at first, it comes back so much worse and that is EXACTLY what happened with me. Today he put me on a month of doxycycline and I can use NOTHING on my face for a month. Ughhhh But I want this to finally go away so here we go....
You saved my PD so so much with the Spectro cleanser but it’s been so so hard to get lately. Do you have any updated recommendations for products for PD?
I noticed that mine was caused by teeth whitening toothpaste (it's the only thing that made it worse and that spread the rash), also did the same baby butt rash paste. I wa desperate. My rash was itchi, and bumpy, it spread and it was flared up. It was frustrating amd embarrassing to even go out, so I decided I was going to try anything natural so I started to apply Rosemay oil (brand: NOW) I was desperate more so to stop the itching because i was scathing rhe hell out of it. Once applied I felt the coolness and the itching lesson so I continued to use it applying a moisturizer over it within 3 days the redness was gone still bumpy but by the 6th day it was flanking off its skin and clearing up. I'm back to my old myself. Now I'm very careful on what I use on my face as well, no more whitening toothpaste just strips, no more combining/mixing products. This skin condition sucks.
Thanks for sharing your journey with PD gonna try all what you recommend and see I hope it works 🙏🏼 I just want to ask have you tried applying Avene cream on the outer parts of your lips? Because I just realized that it is irritating around and in the outer parts of my lips and because of that I stopped using my facial lotion around my lips. THANKS 😊
Thanks you help me a lot Tomorrow I have my dermatologist appointment and this really help me, I just have one question for you: the brand of your makeup, I’m really scare to start using it again
for me the cause was creamy camambert cheese that was the initial trigger, now any type of cheese makes it flare up. i am on antibiotics and putting nothing on my skin as it all stings
i wonder how your skin is doing now after a year of wearing masks! i got PD out of nowhere, i think because of the mask, and this video was immensely helpful and reassuring. thanks for this informative story about your personal experience
I went to my plastic surgeon after cancer so he could see my face .After looking at my face he said he had been seeing a lot of the same thing. It’s from wearing a mask . Started up by my cheeks , then to my nose now mouth .
@@alexalupu8233 i hope you've found some relief. mine kind of disappeared one day. i do recommend la roche posay's cicaplast baume b5 for a 'spot treatment.' it's a super thick moisturizer that helped me calm my flare ups
try using raw apple cider vinegar with the mother . dilute with clean water in a little container and shake the bottle use a q tip or cotton ball soaked and apply on the PD and it will go away less then 4 days mine cleared up quick after using this its natural and effective ! and also affordable if u can't see or afford a dermatologist . and switch to fluoride free toothpaste !!! hope this helps ! also organic Indian NEEM pills are great for the skin and also help PD and just clearing up the skin in general u can find it on amazon. I always keep a little bottle of ACV mixed with WATER on my stand for whenever I get a flare up and it clears up my PD in less than a week its quick and effective ! also start with a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar dilute with water in a small clear travel container from Walmart or target and boom ! I also use this as my toner sometimes every morning to help with acne.
Hi! Could you please tell me the order you would use these products in, Im not sure what order to use the azelaic acid, avene cicalfate and nappy rash cream, this would really help!!
Sadly most experts recommend not using any type of concealer or foundation which makes having the rash extra frustrating to deal with, but less is more with PD. I read on several blogs that you definitely want to avoid any powder foundations. Go for something that is light and doesn't clog pores
Have had this since puberty pretty much and I’m now 31. UPMC derms, in pittsburgh, have absolutely no clue how to treat it. Of course the first three chemical treatments were all variations of steroid creams... until I read online back in 2012 how awful of a contributor topical steroid treatments are. Was put on a pretty aggressive dosage of doxy back in 2015-ish. Finding a sunscreen for the summer sun is an annual battle to avoid flare ups- avene 50 spf has given me good results. Avene moisturizer with 25spf for the rest of the year. Using Spectro to clean and avene mineral water spray to “calm down” my skin after showers. Whatever happened in my teens ruined my skin forever and I so desperately wish I could figure out what the fvck set this off. I wish an intense chemical peel, or something quick, could restart my skin... 😔 thanks for the post and good luck, everyone!
Its a digestive issue so steriods and antibiotics comtribute to it. Ive been on antibiotics throughout my life for various issues. I got a reaction to a particular antibiotic and got red rashes all over my body and to be honest my skin was never d same and i belige thats wen i got PD. This was like 6 or 8 yrs ago 🤦♀️😭
@@kristinas5714 they prescribed me steroids and it didn’t work. I had flare ups up until a couple months ago, Avene’s cicilfate cream saved me tbh. When my POD was bad I used cicilfate cream and nothing else (just washing my face with water) until it went away. My routine now is just lush ultrabland cleanser and Avene’s tolerance extreme cream. Ik greasy products are rly bad for a lot of ppl with it, but this routine works for me
@@cdedberry oh I remember the sweet days of ultra bland cleanser. It smelled like honey! Kind of gritty though, I hope someday soon I can use it! How do you remove it? Hot water and face towel?
@@kristinas5714 yeah! I wipe it all off with a hand towel and lukewarm water before I get in the shower so there’s not too much residue left over on my face (just bc it doesn’t do well under makeup for me) then I moisturize. I lovee ultrabland it’s my favorite cleanser I’ve used. I have rly dry and sensitive skin but ik different things work for everyone
Hi there! When you used the diaper rash cream, did it burn a little bit??
What was the name of the antibiotics and dosage you took for perioral derm? Please?
Same and I've had it for almost 2 months now and it wont go away 😭
I got a little clear bottle from Walmart or target and it was only a 1$
i have had this for YEARS. i’m 14 and i honestly am sooooo insecure about it and i will for sure keep these tips in mind. thanks!!!
I hope they work for you too!
Yea, I'm 15 and I have had this for years, and it is so annoying ! I have this on my eyelids and around my nose.
omg i know it’s so annoying and makeup won’t cover mine, because it just flakes off 😂😬
ii TheMarchGirl ii dame I hate it so much!!!
Graci The goat lady same!!!
This is so great to hear! Happy to help :)
i’m 13, about to be 14 in a month and i’ve had perioral dermatitis for about 3 years and i’ve tried everything. i’m gonna keep you guys updated to see if it works for me.
Hello, how is it going now?
I’ve changed toothpastes to fluoride free, switched hair conditioner to a natural product and have really scaled back on actives! Also ensuring I sleep on silk to help my skin too... still here a little bit but honestly it’s not bad!
I felt so lost as I just discovered that I’m most likely dealing with PD and have been suffering for a month now with it. THANK YOU for this video. Ordering so many of these products and hoping they’ll help me too.
This one of the best videos I've found on this topic. I feel like you touched on every possible tip. Thanks so much
Its overgrowth of yeast & autoimmune thrown in.
JulieAnkha N. Use sudocreme or any zinc oxide cream seriously the only thing that works for me
Did it work?
How is your skin now?
PD is also a lot more common in girls who are more into makeup/beauty because different creams or face washes can peel off the protective layer of the skin around the sensitive areas of your face (folds of your nose) and so all the bacteria on your skin that is usually harmless now sinks in and causes the rash!
Correct
Hi Carli. It's 3/2021 and I just caught your video. Mine is horrible. It absolutely consumes me. Thank you so much for coming on and giving us some options.
Mine went away after a few days once I cut out artificial sweetners (aspartame & sucralose). Hope that helps someone
I know this is an older video, but so thankful I found this (my son is having his 1st boyt of PD). This is the most helpful, informative video I have seen on the topic! Great job & appreciate you & the content!!
Thank you so much for making his video! I just got it out of nowhere and I had no idea what to do without immediately resorting to antibiotics.
Isabel Mendez I used the same cream and it worked so well !
Oh good! I hope some of these tips or products help you!
Your video just came up on my feed and I am so pleased. I am dealing with this problem and it is terrible! All over my t-zone! U hve been so so helpful and I’m so grateful😉x
I'm so glad I could help!
I started taking Nikki BC pills and now all of a sudden I have PD. What did you decide to do
Dandruff is also a dermatitis too.
Azelaic acid alone has helped me so much. I am using aloe vera as well to help heal the redness and burning feeling.. and prevent scars.
How did it go with these products? Any update?
ROZEX CREAM 0.75 .,,IS MAGICAL PLUS ,ZERO COWS MIK AS TS THE WORST .,.
Since you were 3! Oh gosh you poor dear! 💕 I hope you are better now
Reassuring to know so many of us have this. But also frustrating how Drs seem to know nothing about this condition.
Did the perioral dermatitis come back for what was it the antibiotics that cleared you the most??
P.s. I’m on day 3 of the antibiotic and your video has been very encouraging.
epsom salt mini baths for your face every day will speed up the healing and welleda diaper cream , will work magic! i did it without any drugs...from really severe to the clean skin within 10 days
...
i LOVE you! i have had perioral dermatitis for about 8 months now and my skin has been terrible since then. not only because of the dermatitis and the cream treatment i got but also because all my skin products that i normally use made my skin even worse. i saw this video a while ago and decided to look up the products you recommended fearing that none of them would be available here in Sweden, but to my surprise i found a big 50% sale on avene products and those have really helped my skin to recover now. i will probably have a hard time using any other skin products in the future because i love these avene products so much. thank you so much for making this video ❤️
many thanks for this video! i am using a cream with zinc oxide (like the one you described, in the Netherlands the name is Sudocream) and it was just great!! it is really clearing my skin!!! i was already using vinegar and it helped but not as great as the cream! i am also taking supplements of vit D and vit E because they are really related to dermatitis.
Dank je wel! Running to get some Sudocream at Etos
Thank you very much for your video your suggestions helped tons 🙌🏼
I had a very horrible outbreak near to my nose during the first week of April 2020 my first one and I hope the last one 😣😭
I have tried everything for days nothing worked
Then finally I watched this video I started taking
Doxycycline 100 mg per day (May the 16th)
Spectro face wash ..amazon
Avene cícalfate cream ( started using it on May the 21st)..avene website
Clotrinazole 1% ( May the 22nd) ..local drugstore
Drinking tons of water
A green apple per day
Avoiding junk food
Today is May the 28th huge improvement maybe a 70% rednes and bumps are almost gone 👏👏👏👏
Thank god is something curable I thought it was something worst 😭😭
I hope this review helps someone out there
Stay safe everyone 😘 ..and remember everything has a solution!
I am with yoi!very frustrating
I wish I found your video weeks ago! I thought it was adult acne or eczema, used a steriod cream and boom...it spread all over my face. Now I'm on 6 weeks of doxycycline. Definitely going to use some if your tips! Thank you so much for sharing your experience!
Me too! It’s all over my face now bc of the steroid cream. Just started doxycycline today. Praying this works for us. 🙏🙏
Thank you!!! Very helpful and informative. I will definitely buy some of the products you recommended. Please don't ever delete this video. :)
These are great tips! I didn't try these but I'm sure they work great, thank you!! :)
Thank you for this. I have been searching videos and yours is so thorough. I appreciate it. ❤❤❤
This is the best video I've seen on the subject. You're the only one that hasn't said just go to the dermatologist like I did. I really appreciate you giving alternatives even though I plan on going to a doctor anyway because this is a nightmare lol
I hope it gets better! I do think the dermatologist was helpful but not 100% necessary!
I have had this for 3 years 😭
It’s worse when people keep asking you what is wrong with my face 😡
Did anything work?
Do you all still have it?
I think I have this but I’m allergic to doxycycline so it’s super frustrating. I feel so self conscious with this
Arythromycin works. I'm allergic to Doxy too!
At first did it make your skin more red?
@@AguileraGirl14 No. right after I apply it, my skin feels a little bit sore and sensitive. But not red.
how long did you leave the Niacinamide 10% + zinc 1% on your skin?
For me after having PD, once the rash was gone, there was a continuing redness in the corners and redness around the mouth, anyone else? X
Yes me too I'm drinking aloe vera juice every morning and night 4oz

So what I’m using and got me better is : cicaplast B5 la Roche po say
Tacrolimus 0,1%
Sesderma Azelac
Thanks for the advise and sharing your research. I didn't take the Doxycycline antibiotics dermatologist prescribed but after your video I will, thanks.
I have been on the antibiotic gel for one day so far but Im only using CeraVe cleanser and moisturizer cream but I just got the diper rash cream you mentioned and hope it helps my rash not be so noticable. First time ever getting anything like this. I think mine came from a new Neutrogena cleanser I was using. Cause it came on fast after I started using it. Thank you for your video!
Did you start using the Avene Restorative cream during the flair up? I just ordered some and just started antibiotics today. Thanks for sharing!
Judy Wilkey That reply was RUDE! touching the face causes acne , spreads acne , and irritates any issue.
started getting the rash around my mouth at the beginning of my second trimester in pregnancy.
Bless you. Currently dealing with this again. Mine seemed to be triggered by pregnancy or weaning.
Organic apple cider vinager cleared mine up .
Applied topically
How do you applied it? My daughter is 12 years old and has been dealing with PD since last year. 😩
It BURNS and makes mine much worse!
@@cmvr9138same mine just went nuts when I did that . Darn
Take 2000 mg Vitamin C daily,Drink water.Apply Apple cider vinegar to your affected areas as often as you can No joke ..Two Weeks it's gone!!
We’re you diluting the apple cider vinegar?
Yeah it's really important to dilute the Apple cider vinegar
@@bernadetteperez1659 yep
I have been doing exactly that months many weeks. ACV BURNS and makes it much worse for me. And yes, I dilute ACV.
Blessings,
ThePlagueFairy
This was super helpful, thanks! Just went to urgent care for my PD and was prescribed a steroid cream even though I told him all the research I’d done said not to use one AND I used a leftover steroid cream I’d had on hand a few months ago which obvi didn’t help. Dr knew this and prescribed it anyways so I’m definitely going to try your suggestions and see what happens.
Oh no! I'm sorry they wouldn't listen to you :( I hope my suggestions help!
@@gma904 did it work?
🤗🥰How often did you take the neem? And how many capsules did you take a day? And did you continue taking zinc and neem while taking antibiotics?
You saved my PD so so much with the Spectro cleanser but it’s been so so hard to get lately. Do you have any updated recommendations for products for PD?
This video has been so helpful for me, thanks so much!!!!
THANKS 😊
Thank you so much for making this video!
Thanks you help me a lot Tomorrow I have my dermatologist appointment and this really help me, I just have one question for you: the brand of your makeup, I’m really scare to start using it again
I get PD only when I’m pregnant... heals on its own after birth but this pregnancy it just got sooo bad and I’m only 2 months in😬
Same here!! I don’t want to wait until I have the baby to get rid of it 😩
for me the cause was creamy camambert cheese that was the initial trigger, now any type of cheese makes it flare up. i am on antibiotics and putting nothing on my skin as it all stings
i wonder how your skin is doing now after a year of wearing masks! i got PD out of nowhere, i think because of the mask, and this video was immensely helpful and reassuring. thanks for this informative story about your personal experience
i’m in your situation too i’ve had this for 1 month and a half now and the treatments that i get don’t work🥺
I went to my plastic surgeon after cancer so he could see my face .After looking at my face he said he had been seeing a lot of the same thing. It’s from wearing a mask . Started up by my cheeks , then to my nose now mouth .
I had a dermatologist give me Azelaic Gel for rosea
It didn’t do anything
@@alexalupu8233 i hope you've found some relief. mine kind of disappeared one day. i do recommend la roche posay's cicaplast baume b5 for a 'spot treatment.' it's a super thick moisturizer that helped me calm my flare ups
Soolantra cream will heal it. My dermatologist diagnosed mine demdox. Soolantra is amazing 🤩
Love this video! I hate this skin condition omg. Had it since July :(
K have you had any luck getting over it? Hope the video helped!
I just noticed it last weeks and it was acne so thank goodness I found out what it was
try using raw apple cider vinegar with the mother . dilute with clean water in a little container and shake the bottle use a q tip or cotton ball soaked and apply on the PD and it will go away less then 4 days mine cleared up quick after using this its natural and effective ! and also affordable if u can't see or afford a dermatologist . and switch to fluoride free toothpaste !!! hope this helps ! also organic Indian NEEM pills are great for the skin and also help PD and just clearing up the skin in general u can find it on amazon.
EXCELLENT information. Thank you very much for this video 🌹
Hi! Could you please tell me the order you would use these products in, Im not sure what order to use the azelaic acid, avene cicalfate and nappy rash cream, this would really help!!
Did you use the Vanicream and Spector cleaners together? If so, did you use one in the morning and one at night? Thanks!!
This was really helpful, Thank you!
cicalfate fixed my perioral dermatitis omg im so happy
@thegarsowtwins can you please share the name of the ointment the doctor prescribed for your nose?
Can you help me with what foundation doesn’t irritate?!
Sadly most experts recommend not using any type of concealer or foundation which makes having the rash extra frustrating to deal with, but less is more with PD. I read on several blogs that you definitely want to avoid any powder foundations. Go for something that is light and doesn't clog pores
Do not ever use any foundation with PD!
I hate seeing pictures of how “bad” peoples perioral dermatitis Is because there’s isn’t even close to how bad mine is😭😭
Wow I was just told I had atopic dermatitis when I went to the derm for this
Did the atopic dermatitis go away? What did you use?
Where did you buy the products that really helped your PD clear up ?
Which foundation do you use? I have the same thing I took the antibiotic which worked but I still can’t wear any foundation, it activities the PD.
