Great work Espen, if anyone else is watching and thinking of getting the course that Espen has put together well dont think twice. Its by far the most comprehensive piece of work ive seen on this subject and a great asset for anyone using the Olympus 4/3 camera system. Loads of valuable information in a great format. Keep them coming Espen 👍🏼📷🎥
Great video. I just bought your course on all the settings for the OM system and I’m looking forward to watching it. Your OM camera tips have always been bang on and they are often different than what others suggest. Thanks for all the info.
Hi Espen, I just finished your course for wildlife photography and I really appreciated it. I have an E-M1X, I have set it exactly as you explain in the course, but I have a problem I cannot solve. When I use the 150-400, the half-way pressure of the shooting button activates the C-AF, even if I have set the AEL/AFL button on modality 3 in the A1 menu either for S-AF or C-AF. In this way the half pressure should only activates exposure, and this is what is happening when I use the 12-40. Maybe I have to set some other function on the 150-400 lens? Great work anyway, and great tips for anyone using this system!
Sorry for the delay in replying, I’m in Tanzania atm. Very glad to hear you found the course useful :) it sounds really weird that it would work differently on two different lenses. You could try to reset the camera settings to factory to see if that would help? You can save your settings to the OM Share app first. Other than that I would ask OM System support, David Smith is very knowledgeable on these things and he may have come across it before.
Having used the OM 1 from day one I still go back to the EM1X because of the vertical grip, I can't see any difference in image quality which to me is important, if I was looking at buying a M43 camera the EM1X would be very tempting at less than thirteen hundred pounds, it's a steal.
Excelente video muy pro, gracias por compartir sus conocimientos, una pregunta ud tiene su libro donde enseña a configrar los botones y otras cosas mas, disponible en español ?, muchas gracias por anticipado
Great video why are not more people switching to Olympus. I think it is price I a Olympus fan But fuji new xt5 with a lens is the same price as the om-1 body
thanks so much. frankly i could not bring myself to like or get use to back button focus. i use S AF and assist with MF. also i have C1 for BIF and using the settings suggested by you from pervious video. thanks again.
Good stuff! I thought you moved on to the OM-1? Love seeing that you are still using the X, I have 2 of em, one with the 300 f4, and the other with the 40-150 f2.8, winning combo for me. When at home they are both on my coffee table ready to get those birds in the backyard. Plus, I just like to play with them. Also, try as I may, try as I might, I just can;t get used to BBF, I'm way faster without it. Cheers!
Horses for courses, I love BBF, each to there own though. The moment I discovered this was a thing it just felt so natural to me. It would be a deal breaker if this was not an option on a new camera body now. I miss the focus clutch enormously. I part exchanged my 300 against the big white one and I so wish they had incorporated the focus clutch in it. It took me a while to get used to the clutch I must admit; there can be a tendency to knock it leaving you wondering why auto focus isn't working but after a while, #1 it becomes second nature just to flick it back to auto and #2 you (or at least I) learned not to knock it in to manual in the first place. I'm still using the 1X until my OM-1 arrives probably in the autumn now, so I'm told. Ordered in March!
I'm debating about losing my G9 and saving a bit of a cash by going for a used EM1X rather than the OM1 How good is the autofocus? It would have to be substantial as my 100-400 loses me pro capture on Olympus :(
@@EspenHelland I'm persevering with the G9 for now and waiting for the OM1 buzz to go down and get a cheap deal or see what Panasonic puts out there. They would be mad to stick with DFD this time around!
Hi, I have just switched from Nikon to Om-1 with 300mm. There is one quirk with the OM-1 that I can't solve! When I want to use the exposure compensation button I can press it once and it works fine, I go to use it again and I get the focal length appear in the evf on the left, press it again and the exposure compensation is active again, press it again and it's back to the focal length highlighted in the evf! So the exposure compensation button only works every other press and not every press. I'm sure it's something not set up right, but what? Great videos,.
Hi David, sorry I’m not sure about that. Might be worth trying to reprogram the exposure comp to a different button just to see if it makes a difference. If that doesn’t work might be best to ask the question directly to OM. Maybe David Smith on their UA-cam channel would be able to help?
@@EspenHelland Thank you. I'm playing with that now, makes no difference. I have noticed through that when I put it to shutter priority instead of manual, the exposure compensation button works on the front dial. Have you tried this yours, manual, auto iso? Many thanks David
@@davidlawrence7540 I change my buttons around a bit. I shoot in manual and I reprogram so that I have direct control of iso and shutter on my dials, my exposure button I press to change my f stop. When I sometimes use auto iso I hold the exp button and turn dial to change exp comp.

Thanks for the tips! I just got a new Em1x and it’s awesome.

Thank you Espen 💪

I sure hope they make an OM1x
Thanks! 🐦📷

I notice it more at higher iso it keeps a bit more detail. The big step up too me is the ai detection AF

Hi. Nice video.
In c1 (flight settings) how do you set the AF limiter, and wich one you choose?
thanks so much.

It will be interesting to hear how you get on with the OM1 with your big Norwegian hands. Do you plan to use the grip accessory?
I’m not sure I quite like the smallness of it, works better when I’m just walking around with the camera in a sling.
Thanks for posting because it is exactly what I needed. If you plan to get rid of your em1X maybe we could arrange a deal if the price is good enough?
I’ve sold it a couple of month ago I’m afraid

But if you use bbf you can just keep manual focus on all the time. Another benefit of using bbf 🙂hope you get it soon!
You know, I hadn’t thought of that. Doh!

The em1x is definitely a good camera, but when it comes to focus the OM-1 takes it to a new level.

MF clutch is the best thing about this lens system. Disable it for instant unfriend
🤣 nah, back button focus and have manual focus available all the time. disable 😜
