    This repair is two years old and is still working perfect...my cooling system has been working perfect for the last two years since i caught this problem.....

      Could you tell me? Was your elbow cooling hose blowing off on the water pump before hand? That's the issue I'm having with this 1997 Harris float boat 140hp

    When it was overheating would the boat stall? And not turn back on?

    Still running strong? I might have to give this a go tomorrow.

    Could you show us exactly what you used to make the repair and how you did the "ping shot"? Your video just skips over that aprt and it is the most important to understand. Thanks

    • @kevinvezina6535
      @kevinvezina6535 3 роки тому +1

      Its called a peen shot....you use a center punch and hammer and center punch it all around where the two meet....look at the video carefully and you will see the dots all round the shaft area...this bites the two and gives it added grip ...do not forget the metal bond (green loctight)

      Remember this repair is only nessessary if you can grab the end of the shaft and turn it with plyers...if it turns you can likely just grab it and pull it out of the end of the shaft....grab ,wiggle and pull

    I think that shaft is part of the whole upper bearing shaft- ie a single piece that rides on the bearing.. (the bearing actually presses onto this shaft) - i think yous has snapped off and all you have done is hammer it back on and its probably broken off center enough to turn the impeller (for now) -

      Wrong....its a press fit...Ive been using it for two years since i repaired...I am a marine and recreational mechanic full time...

    • @kevinvezina6535
      @kevinvezina6535 3 роки тому +1

      It is part of the full shaft but its press fitted in the end of the drive shaft

    • @kevinvezina6535
      @kevinvezina6535 3 роки тому +1

      That doesnt even make sense anyway...how can it be pushed back in if it was broke off...if it was forged as part of the shaft how would you push it back in to the end of shaft...they did this to prevent the impeller shaft from breaking off or bending..you can can see the end of the main drive shaft sitting in the inner bearing race where i peen shot...that hole is the end of the shaft....the little shaft that i pulled out ,does that look broken off to you???no....its pressfitted

    what does it mean if the shaft turns, and the bearings turn also? I'm having a problem with the impeller housing heating up to the point of melting.

    • @kevinvezina6535

      If you can grab that shaft like i did and turn it it means that the shaft has gotten loose...its pressfitted into the end of the driveshaft....If it turns grab it with vicegrips turn and pull out on it...shoyld come right out...then do the repair just like i did in this video....Since i repaired mine two years ago it hasnt gotten hot since...the bearing is supposed to turn...

      @@kevinvezina6535 thank you for your reply, I hooked on to it with vice grips, whacked the vice grips with a hammer, and the shaft didn't budge. It doesn't move easily and doesn't feel loose.

    When this happened was the impeller not sucking water up? Mine is overheating and my first plan is to change the impeller.

    • @kevinvezina6535
      @kevinvezina6535 4 роки тому

      No it wasnt because the drive shaft was not turning the impeller...that little shaft is pressed into the end of the engine drive shaft..I replaced the impeller and housing but was still overheating...once i did this repair it started turning the impeller and my cooling is back to normal..take a pair of vicegrips or cresent wrench and see if that shaft turns ..it should be tight and not move..if it turns then you need to do this repair...that shaft turns your impeller ,if its turning then its obviously not turning the impeller...

      @@kevinvezina6535 Thanks for the response. I checked mine and it didn't turn. This is something I am going to check for every time I change out the impeller. The nice part about the OMC Cobra is that the water pump is so easy to work on.

    Does the boat take on water when this is the problem

    • @kevinvezina6535
      @kevinvezina6535 2 роки тому

      No the boat will overheat because the pump is not turning...If your taking on water,check the black hose with orange strip that the shifter cable goes through...it will rot and start leaking...you will have to run your hand down the hose and you should feel it...
