    I would really love to see a whole video on just brushes. . . sizes shapes what to use them for. . . .with out specific brands, just like what you should look for with a brush

    • @mariar1160
      @mariar1160 7 років тому +8

      Rebecca Claybourn girl I usually don't even use brushes as their intended. it just depends on what look you're trying to achieve. some ppl like applying foundation with a sponge, others prefer flat brushes or both depending on what type of foundation you're using (cream or liquid). and I think eye brushes can be used for anything just depends what size you need in the moment. try things out and see what works for you and what you prefer😊

    What a GREAT video! I love that you kept the "don't" realistic - those are mistakes we all make on a day to day basis. Like you said, not all of them at once, but they slip here and there. Thanks a ton!

    There was this girl at my school who would only wear foundation, no bronzer or blush, and she looked dead or like a zombie. Wearing only foundation, to me, takes away all of the natural features of the face and can look scary as all one color because our faces definitely aren't just one shade.

      Sundaaayz omg same! But that was in then! I left high school in 2002 so we all only wore foundation, eyeliner, lip gloss and mascara. Oh and I wore purple eyeshadow only on my lids 😂 but everyone told me they loved my makeup! Thin eyebrows were in and I had white bleached hair! Ahhhh those were the days. I only used maybelline foundation in a colour too orange for my pale skin. Gotta love it!

      if you're able to, get the clinique men's charcoal wash and use it to wash brushes and sponges. I love it! It's kinda too drying for the face but will leave your brushes brand new with two washes if you really got a lot of product on it.

      There's a crap ton of Beauty Blender cleaning videos out there! I live in Japan so I clean my BB and all my blushes with "Makeup Puff and Sponge" from Daiso. I think you can buy it on Amazon. I've also tried the BB cleansing solid and I really like that for my beauty blender! I just don't use the pad thing it comes with because I feel like it'll rip the sponge.

    There's something to be said for building up product little by little... Not only does it prevent you from going overboard, but it also lasts longer. It can even give shadows that are lacking in pigment a bit more of a punch. I don't like wasting product, so when I go in to a powder bronzer or shadow... instead of tapping it off, I pat it on the back of my hand or wrist. It takes off the extra but also allows you to go back into your hand to pick up a little more product. I'm talking a tiny bit, but I find that sometimes that's all I need.

    • @yolodawg9210
      @yolodawg9210 7 років тому +1

      Ask the photographer if they use flash that bounces back. A lot of photographers either don't use flash, if during the day, and if they do, they don't use the same kind of flash that causes flashback. So I've heard/read

    Laura! Love your educational vids! You should do one about how to use bright crazy eye shadows. Not necessarily a tutorial with them, but tips for working with unique colors as opposed to standard warm/cool every day tones. Especially with the crazy popularity of palettes like the JHxMorphe and the new Sephora Pro.

    • @grace8089

  • @mistyjordan5662
    @mistyjordan5662 7 років тому +58

    Hey Laura. Your makeup always looks so flawless. Can you do a tutorial on how to properly use your brushes and different techniques to use? I have a y6 and m439 and I just feel like all my foundations always have brush strokes and and don't look flawless. I've tried mac brushes as well so I think it's something I'm doing wrong. It would be nice to see other types of brushes too.

    • @TsundereNami
      @TsundereNami 7 років тому +2

      Misty Jordan I think the best way to apply foundation with a brush is to stipple it first on your face and then start blending it. Then you can over by swiping a bit on your face to make sure it's all blended. Swiping on foundation to your face don't always give the best results to me. That's what I've seen people do when they apply foundation with a brush. I hope that helps. :)

    • @michellerhodes5477
      @michellerhodes5477 7 років тому +1

      Misty Jordan. I have a bunch of dense brushes I use for foundation. My favorite is the Sigma F80 flat top kabuki but I have a Zoeva, Real Techniques, and an e.l.f. brush I like too. I just like the brush to be really dense.
      As Stephanie said, I like to stipple it on then blend.
      But, for me to get the best application, I apply a thin first layer with a brush since it generally gives more coverage. I then go into some of my trouble spots with a second layer using a sponge. I finish off my application by using what's left on the sponge to go over everywhere else I didn't apply a second layer. Going over everything with a sponge after a brush gives a beautiful and flawless finish. I do set my entire face with powder because I'm oily.

    • @sherryprevento3398
      @sherryprevento3398 7 років тому +3

      Misty Jordan I have that problem too. So what I do is use the brushes cause for me it's just quicker then to use a beauty blender alone. So what I do is use the brush then just quickly bounce my beauty blender all over to get rid of strokes.

    • @atkern26
      @atkern26 7 років тому

      I had the same issue a while ago and just switched to a beauty sponge. Elf has a really cheap and good one if you want a less expensive version of the actual beauty blender.

    • @mistyjordan5662
      @mistyjordan5662 7 років тому +1

      Sherry Prevento I also feel like the foundation just isn't sitting nicely on my skin. My nose never looks good. I'm using smashbox primer I have the regular and the pore minimizer. I've tried drugstore foundation and high end. I just don't get it. I didn't use to have this problem.

But let’s not worry love, style is always changing! Literally, day to day! I just color mine in however like you my left eye top has grown back/doesn’t grow anymore taunts me too!!! Speaking of powder foundation, can you do a video using powder foundation. I notice you mainly use liquid foundations. I have some powder foundation that I would love to use but I'm not exactly sure how to use it. Please and thank you 😊

    • @emilylitteck8462
      @emilylitteck8462 7 років тому +16

      Letiyonce I know I'm not laura but if you're going to use a powder foundation do your liquid concealer first (if you use it) and you can use a foundation brush just like the one she used in this video! and I personally find small circular motions gives the most even coverage and I use very little product at a time 😊

    • @jennat2004
      @jennat2004 7 років тому +5

      Letiyonce I'm not Laura, but this is what I do; if it pressed u can use a like powder puff to rly press it into ur skin. Or sometimes I use a loose powder foundation and I use a small brush to put a lot where I want on each side of my face to make sure it's even then use a big powder brush to blend it in. Also definitely do liquid concealer first.

    Omg Teni says the exact opposite thing
    Go darker with your foundation as some parts of your face may be darker than the other parts and you can lighten your complexion with concealer
    I prefer the darker foundation as being a woman of colour lighter foundation can make me look grey or ashy
    Glad that their are no rules of makeup you can do whatever you want

    • @racheledmonds5796
      @racheledmonds5796 7 років тому +5

      Saba Nazeer the only problem with foundation that is darker than your skin is blending it with your neck and having it match your body. As long as it matches it's all good. Lol

    • @arielbrown477
      @arielbrown477 7 років тому +19

      Like Rachel said I think you should go with a foundation that matches your body. A lot of people who self tan don't do their face, they just get a foundation that matches their body. I think she was just saying don't try to look sunkissed or darker with foundation if it doesn't match your body, if you wanna look darker use a bronzer

    • @megiandr
      @megiandr 7 років тому +11

      Saba Nazeer yeah but Tati's saying that because she has a tan on her body & not face, so she matches her face with body with darker foundation. Laura doesn't have tan (or not as much different body&face shade as Tati) so she meant don't try to trick people you're having a tan with using darker foundation

    these tips were soo helpful, i like that you say you've made certain mistakes and how you've changed technique to look better. I don't know how to word it, but I think this shows that makeup doesn't automatically look good just because it's high end, you have to know how to use it on yourself.

      Kandirain _117 all of the eyeshadow was different as well. To do a true side by side the same tools, colors, and products would be more appropriate. • @kandirain_1172
      @kandirain_1172 7 років тому +7

      shanny Allen The shadows came from the same palette and for this video, the point seemed to be people making "bad" decisions with their makeup (ex: no transition shade vs transition shade; darker foundation to look tan vs using bronzer). But I see where u're coming from too. Maybe a separate video tho...

      Amy Tate I would love to know this too! I don't wear glasses, but my makeup is always being rubbed off by my sunglasses.

      Amy Tate putting a little bit of eyeshadow primer under your foundation where your glasses sit can help with it lifting off

    I really liked Laura's disclaimer. Usually disclaimers are given with an eye roll, but hers seemed genuinely sincere when she said there are no rules. I also liked she said the dos and don'ts were for a specific look. I find so many gurus don't want to admit that they do makeup a specific way, but there are still other ways to do it.

    Why do people always say they are entitled to their own opinion after saying something mean or cruel? That is bullying at it's finest...When the person tries to justify their cruel words. 🤔 Bullying is not cool people. It is just a sign of jealousy. Get yourself help. Laura, you are such a strong woman...I know you can handle it. You are a bada** at what you do. But it is still not okay and, chances are, they are bullying others as well. I normally wouldn't comment something like this, like never, ever, but, for some reason, I just felt the need. People, please stop being so judgemental and mean. No one is perfect. It's just makeup. It's not supposed to be so negative. 😢

    I loved this video SOOOO MUCH! I usually shy away from eyeshadow especially anything that is really vibrant, and sometimes I look at my eyebrows and think wth they looked so good yesterday! 😩 but I can never figure out what I am doing wrong! I watch so many videos, literally EVERY SINGLE DAY and I can never find a tutorial that isn't just putting a look together but actually helping in comparing what you could be doing wrong. This video just helped put everything into perspective! Love you Laura lee!
