This vlog was everything. Your reactions during Blue Sisters make me want to pick it up asap. I don't have a sister, but have always wanted one (ended up with 3 brothers instead 😂) and I love reading books about sisterhood.
I’m so glad you enjoyed Blue Sisters! One of my favourite books. Also you have convinced me to read Knock knock, open wide. Immediately added to my tbr
My wife and I watched all of Vampire Diaries and it gets wild. When you finish I highly recommend The Originals and Legacies. Originals gets so freaking good and Legacies is so fun, it even has a musical!
i feel like if you ever read I Who Have Ever Known Men again with a physical copy you would be underlining SO much hah. i read it 2 times this year, and the 2nd time i took my time and annotated it, and its definitely my top book of 2024 and one of my new all-time favorites. i agree with what you said about it not being about answers and finding meaning because sometimes in life we just dont get resolution and things dont always mean something. i love it so much. i need to check out In Memoriam! its on my shelf.
Of all the great reasons to follow this channel none is so powerful as the inspirational quality created through belief that no matter how things are now soon things will be better. I love that!
I really enjoyed this vlog, Gabby, thanks again for the effort you put into your excellent videos. And it's fantastic that you had so many good books in ths vlog! One after another, it was cool. I will get "Know Knock Open Wide" and I will also buy "Blue Sisters" -- for my sister for Christmas. We lost a sister so when you said this book could be cathartic for those who have lost a sister that made me want to read this and get it for my sister who has grieved a lot.
Um. No. I wrote the book and Aideen and Etain are two different names. Her pronunciation was perfect. EDIT: Well I'll be damned, apparently Etain is the original form of Aideen. Anyone I've known who uses that spelling pronounces it "E tane".
Knock Knock Open Wide took me several days to get through, too, but omg it was so weird, so surreal, and so good!! I still think about it and I read it 6 months ago. I gave it 4 stars overall for all the reasons you explained--the plot gets a little off track, I felt, but the end is really solid. But I dunno, for how much of an impression it left on me maybe it should be 5 stars lol. Also the author has a book coming out next year called The Burial Tide! The description of it sounds really good.
Can't believe it has been 4 years since Rachel's kidney problems 😮 I am the youngest of 3 sisters and am close to both, but actually live with my middle sister. We have always been super close and I would literally not be alive anymore,if it wasn't for her.She is my soulmate.
I am currently reading Blue Sisters and it makes me so happy to hear you praising it! I agree with the long chapters. I am thinking twice before starting a new one :-p
Hearing you describe your relationship with your sister reminds me so much of my own. We also worked together and had the same friendship groups. I'm also the older one... Books about sisters are my absolute favourite fiction books. Any other recommendations for that theme? I'd love a video on this topic!!
This is random, but my book club & I were deciding between Dead of Winter & One By One for our Dec read tonight… I looked up the Goodreads & I yelped “well GABBY says DOW is what she wanted out of One by One” 😂 & they were like “…what” 😂👏🏼 thanks for your help
I am sooo glad you are loving the vampire diaries! I would kill to be able to rewatch it for the first time again! (Although I do rewatch every year lol!) Just be warned, it kind of goes to shit at the end of the show and the plot lines are just rough… BUT the originals is AMAZING when you do finish it! I love it just as much.
As an LA native... ouch 😂 I agree with you (and that quote) about certain aspects and areas of LA but it always hurts to hear people talk that way about a city of millions of people who are all very very different from one another. We get a bad rep but I'm not sure it's always fair. Love the way you tall about sisterhood. Makes me super jealous I don't have a sister! And then of course the masterpiece that is The Vampire Diaries with a top tier exploration of brotherhood lol
Ugh I feel like if u read the physical version of I Who Have Never Known Men it would be 5 starsssss….😂😂 I just read it the other week it was absolutely stunning!
Since you like books that are sort of gay themed there is a classic novel by Evelyn Waugh called "Brideshead Revisited" that you might enjoy. It takes place during early years of 20th century. Thanks.
Your hair looks so pretty! I really want to read Cleopatra and Frankenstein, Coco Mellors' other book. My favorite book of 2024 so far was Thirst For Salt, it's a very beautifully written melancholy literary romance
I went to check out Blue Sisters on Libby and there's 42 people waiting. But Spotify will allow me to listen to the audiobook in two days so yay! I'm also excited to read Knock Knock Open Wide because my grandmother was from Ireland, I love U2, and the concept sounds very interesting. I'm really struggling with focusing on reading this year. My goal was 30 and I dropped it down to 25 but still have 5 to go. Maybe I'll look up some reading sprints and try that.
I am so happy you picked and enjoyed knock knock open wide ❤ I also felt that I did not fully grasp the horror elements but I still enjoyed the ride and the concept was so unique. This book evoked so many feelings. It would have made a great book club pick, I think, just so we can figure out together what happened😅
Yayyyy so glad your read I Who Have Never Known Men! I think I suggested that one on your video of weird novellas 😌 I knew you’d like it!! I ended up buying a copy off pango. I read blue sisters and enjoyed it. I have In Memoriam in my queque so I’m excited to read that one. I’m intrigued by Knock Knock Open Wide!! I feel you on the ADHD being bad right now with the state of the world. Sending big love to you 💜 so happy you had a successful reading vlog 🎉 one book I read recently that I loved was Grown by Tiffany D Jackson. Great book! Oooh side note….if you like Vampire Diaries then I’m sure you’ll LOVE the Originals!!
I love when you and Gavin post on the same day! I decided to watch your video first (sorry Gavin😅) It seems like just last year your sister was having kidney problems 😭 I can't believe I've been subscribed to you for that long😮
Just starting the video, I’m curious what you’re going to think about I Who Have Never Known Men. I found it to be too slow and repetitive and I think you might too. Also I just borrowed knock knock open wide from the library but haven’t started it yet so I’m interested to see if you recommend it or not.
Thank you!!! And yes the recipe is so simple. It’s just white rice, ground beef (seasoned with Taco Beef seasoning and I like to squeeze a lime over it in the last minute of cooking) and then fresh cilantro, avocado, and tomato for topping! I also put sour cream and Taco Bell mild sauce on top of mine 🤤
Blue sisters sounds so good hopefully I like bc I don't have a sister only a brother so the closest thing to a sister I got is my bestfriend who I have known for 13 yrs now
Wow, I’m glad this was such a successful selection of books for you! They all sounded great. And you’re absolutely correct that even the least interesting genres are improved by gay characters. 😂
Have you read any holiday new releases yet? Let It Glow and A Very Merry Murder Plot are really good. Are you doing the next installment of Reese’s Book Club picks soon?
I just love the way you talk about Rachel and your relationship together 🩷
Gabby we NEED a Vampire Diaries book rec video (but not the actual Vampire Diaries books because I heard the show is far superior!)
Thanks so much Gabby! Really glad you enjoyed it.
❤❤❤
Just what I needed for laundry folding
I was also folding laundry ❤
I was washing dishes

glad to hear you're Team Damon 😂
🤭🤭🤭
You’re so right any form of entertainment is automatically better when it’s gay 😂😂
I’m so glad you enjoyed Blue Sisters! One of my favourite books. Also you have convinced me to read Knock knock, open wide. Immediately added to my tbr
I love seeing your TVD updates along with your reading!
My wife and I watched all of Vampire Diaries and it gets wild. When you finish I highly recommend The Originals and Legacies. Originals gets so freaking good and Legacies is so fun, it even has a musical!
Currently reading Knock Knock Open Wide, the first night on the road and at the farmhouse gave me such chills!!
I've always loved the relationship you have with your sister. And yeah I remember when your sis had the op.

Knock knock open wide is on my shelves.
Can’t wait to read Knock Knock Open wide. Also, there is an amazing cover of With or Without you by J. R. Richards that I highly recommended!
I’m so glad you ended up enjoying In Memoriam! If you didn’t, I would have been “Kendall who never heard of him “👀
Hahahah I’m so glad you recommended it to me 😂🤭💖🫶🏻
Beautiful vlog Gabby. Your relationship with your sister is so special. Blue sisters is in my list. Stay safe and warm.😊
Hi irish viewer here. ETAIN is pronounced Aid-een . And I'm Aisling too 😊
Um. No. I wrote the book and Aideen and Etain are two different names. Her pronunciation was perfect.
EDIT: Well I'll be damned, apparently Etain is the original form of Aideen. Anyone I've known who uses that spelling pronounces it "E tane".
