Assalamualaikum I am a born Muslim, from South Africa. We have a small muslum population, fairly practising. I worked with not yet Muslim colleagues, I was the only Muslim female educator among them. They would have been offended if I did dawah, and I would have got into trouble if I tried with my pupils. So I used to indirectly in a literature lesson tell them about Islam. Only about three out of hundreds I taught in my 20 years approached me to accept Islam.
Masha alah sister even though it’s hard for you, you are still doing the work of Allah. May alah reward you and make us all as strong as you.
remember that Nuh عليه السلام gave dawah for 850 years and only got 80 followers. if the prophets struggled, then we should be extremely glad even if we help a single soul. afterall, it's Allah ﷻ that guides people, not us. so don't feel disappointed if you do so, and be proud. ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّٰهِ

Malay Muslims generally do not like to talk about religion to fellow Chinese or Indians out of respect for their religion or to avoid create frictions. Many of our Chinese and Indian friends are also not interested to know about Islam. So, we stick with "To you your religion, to us our religion" and we live with each other in peace. On the other hand if anyone wants to learn about the religion may reach out or to learn about it. Also, Muslims are as busy as others with work to put food on the table. Non Muslims who have bad thoughts about Islam mostly because of their own prejudice and citing the behaviour of some bad Muslims.

We as Muslims can learn a lot from Sheikh Hussein yee as Muslims we are never to old to learn about the Prophet Muhammed and the teaching of Islam.
Assalamu alaykum thank you for sharing! When the Sheikh said "may Allah forgive us for what we have been doing to Islam" it reminded me of what another brother said "Islam is perfect, but Muslims are not". SO much truth there! As a revert myself, I find I sometimes have a perspective that dramatically differs from others. I notice how much some brothers and sisters have become so confused over the difference between what Allah has prescribed to our faith as opposed to cultural traditions and habits established by humans. We have people who judge others about what foot goes into a doorway first, or what position their hands are in during prayer, or the correct method of wudu, and then these same people go home, get drunk, and beat their wives. We need to get back to the Qu'ran and ask our Creator to cleanse our souls and straighten our paths and purify our deen from all that has corrupted it over the centuries so we can return to TRUE Islam. JazakAllah khayr to all who strive for the sake of Islam.
