Thanks for informing about Cyprus. I am a black American that also travel European Countries and like you I prefer to talk positives, but sometimes we need to shout out what a country is really like and it's people. My experiences as an American is different compared to some Africans I do understand but seeing these injustices make me so angry. I will not visit Cyprus and I will tell my travel friends not to go there either because Cyprus needs to be exposed for the human rights problem there. I will do my part to do more research on this problem workers right in Cyprus and draw more attention to this Countries racist attitude.

Cyprus is a country that has struggled for decades to stand on its own feet. Our island's history, what with suffering wars, the many attempts to be conquered and especially the Turkish invasion in 1974, left families distraught and the country with many problems still pending resolution to this day. For example, North Cyprus is only recognised by Turkey. I will agree that racial discrimination is not to be tolerated, but I must admit that most Cypriots are racist due to the aftermath of the Turkish invasion. On top of this, we are a small island, on which everyone regardless of colour and background is trying to make a living. Everyone is fighting for their rights and such as any other country, injustice exists. I am disappointed to hear these people's stories, however,I do not appreciate people generalising and giving Cyprus a bad name as a whole, as there are many Cypriots, myself included, who stand for human rights and are not racist. Cyprus may not be adequately prepared to provide for refugees, as we have also had our own refugees from North Cyprus, forced to come to the South and unwillingly start a new life. Unfortunately, the situation here will likely continue to be like this for the foreseeable future.

The first person that speaks with, is from Pakistan, which says that does not got any money, but at the same time is wearing good clothes, a clock, a good quility of mobile phone, a nice haircut and shaved... what kind of assylum seeker is that? And at the moment, Pakistan is not at war... so how he can apply for assylum?? He is an economic refugee that came to Europe to work... Well he can definitely go the villages of Cyprus in the mountains, and work in the agriculture area, but rather that he is in the Capital town. Regarding their accommodation, immigrants (not all but large number of immigrants) , do not respect the house/apartment they are living. Damaging a lot of things and leaving unpaid rent... Moreover, due to the Cyprus legislation, it will be difficult to kick off a person who is currently renting an apartment as he is protected by law, although he is not paying the rent. That's why Cypriots don't want to rent there apartments.
@Sun Rise If you are an assylum seeker in Cyprus, you receive grant by the Cyprus republic and the European union (currently Cyprus republic pays higher percentage of the grant provided, than European Union. Those money are coming from the Cypriot tax payers). This money are expected to help the immigrants to rent an apartment, buy foods or even wear clothes. In contrast, we see that this money have been spent in luxury items such as clocks, haircuts and high quality clothes... Waiting for your reply.

I am a Greek Cypriot. Cyprus has the highest percentage of immigrants (approximately 8%) more than any other European country. Moreover we had a war with Turkey before 50 years approximately, thus we have a bad feeling regarding muslims and any other minority (which is extremely reasonable). We don't want immigrants to our country as immigrants tend to choose low paying jobs that will result in lower wages for all the residents and higher unemployment rates. Moreover, most illegal immigrants don't pay taxes, such as social insurance and Gesy, but at the same time they receiving education services and health care services. This is absolutely correct. Healthcare and education has to be paid for. Historically, Cyprus has been battered politically and economically. One in 20 people in Cyprus are now an asylum seekers. This is completely unsustainable for a small island with a small population. The social climate of Cyprus is rapidly changing. It’s culture is distorting. The majority of seekers will settle and the face of Cyprus changes forever.

I came here in early 2000 legally working by filling out proper documents. I never once felt entitled that this country owes me ANYTHING. A good lesson for these young people is if you dont like the country you have migrated to , LEAVE. Dont complain and whine. Its a waist of time. Stop complaining about racism, you are not a victim and can achieve anything you want to with hard work. But it is a good video and hopefully will stop many immigrants coming here, i commend you.
Well most Cypriot people even mistreat their relatives that come to visit them from overseas . So I can understand why they are complaining . They don’t expect people to owe them anything . They just want to be treated with respect . I visited Cyprus once and had the hardest time there . I haven’t been back for 30 years . Good riddance to bad rubbish .

Most immigrants come with just basic English... some of them with really bad English and Some even with a mixture of English + Greek + their native language... 2. Cyprus has been going through a financial crisis since 2012, and as soon as the country started getting back on it's feet the Pandemic began... In a country where even it's younger generation can't move on and grow financially while immigrants are moving in and they are not helping the situation... So our capacity for absorbing immigrants and/or refugees has long being overcome. Shout against those big EU nations that receive much less asylum applications per cpaita than Cyprus and that are responsible to a very significant extent for the problems in your countries. Cypriots that are rich enough, can help you by adopting children through UNICEF and sponsoring various other programmes aiming to help.
Cyprus is very racist and we have a lot of work to do, there is no excuse and we have to improve. I understand you are angry, and rightly so, but I think it would be fair to investigate why people are like that. Being a Cypriot myself I think it's Xenophobia more than racism. We have this eternal fear of disappearing from our small island. Cyprus is half occupied by the Turkish army and 40% of the people are displaced from their homes themselves. I know this should educate us more on what means to be a refugee needing help but the fear and survival instincts are there. Cyprus was colonized itself, to counter the threat people turned to nationalism and religion. Everyone outside our little group is perceived as threat to our survival on that rock. Currently I think Cypriots are overwhelmed by asylum seekers. People mention how great France or Germany is, Countries with 50-60 million people, Cyprus is less than a one million. Like you showed in your video there is a ton of asylum seekers that you can easily identify in the street. How many asylum seekers can you randomly find in the streets of Paris or Berlin compared to the rest of the population? Cyprus is an island in the periphery of Europe, we are the place that other Europeans come to get drunk, go swimming and then fly home. There are no opportunities for the locals either. It's isolated from it's neighbors both politically and economically making it a far off corner of Europe, instead a center of opportunity of the geographic area it resides. Concerning the kebab owner, you should believe him that this is how he is....people in Cyprus do not know how to provide service...he is most probably a guy that decided to BBQ all day without any training, customer service etc. I live in the US and I try to avoid restaurants in Cyprus, they are rude and they don't know what they are doing. I was a foreigner here years ago. I never felt xenophobia i decided to make Cyprus my home BECAUSE of how people are here. Yes i worked hard i studied as well. And this one wants to get money live nice and dont work as it seems. Plus why didn't anyone wonder WHY its 90% OF YOUNG MEN are refugees? Their women and children are left behind to be soldiers??? It should be opposite women and children should be refugees and MEN stay and defend their home ... Those who come and act arrogant and aggressive will have according treatment.

When the invasion happened in Cyprus (1974) many many Cyrpiots left the island to go to Egypt to seek refuge where they were welcomed by the people and now after not so much time passed when the same people come to your country to seek refuge you decline to help them...Is that fair?

My friend and I holidayed in Cyprus in 2018. We saw nothing of this type of discrimination until we took a day trip to Famagusta. Here we had armed guards mount our tour bus and all our passports were taken off us. We were spoken to roughly and I was so concerned for our safety, I text to my husband back in the UK to tell him what was going on. We genuinely feared for our lives. At this point they still had not discovered the mass grave of the Cypriots after the Turkish invasion. Our tour guide was even frightened. She said remember if you take out a camera you will be arrested. I would never go back. I am so sorry about the treatment the refugees are getting. This has to be addressed but who can you complain to?
Just to clarify, Famagusta is in the illegally Turkish occupied area of Cyprus. This conduct did not happen to you by actual sovereign Republic of Cyprus administration. As a Cypriot, I do not encourage visitors to go to the occupied territory. It’s at your own risk.

After that period you are then put on probation and when you do commit a crime you are instantly deported after serving any sentence

I can Not talk about Southrn Cyprus but I can tell you that from my own experiences that this is not a race problem.... In the North part, Black people are there as students they are suppose to get an education and return to their country...Over the years Cypriots had a lot of problems with these ''Students''.... 3 of them rent a three bedroom apartment agreeing they can not exeed that number than landlords findout that there are at list 30 of them coming and going to the property...recent years more and more girls are getting pregnant and giving birth in cyprus than have been giving the babies for adobtion...Only recently a shop was visited by the local council and they found out that a lot of unkown meat was smmuggeled in the country... Its not a race problem mate its how some people dont respect the fact that they are visitors and they are to fit in with the locals..
I'm a Nigerian and I came to Cyprus without making research spent alot of money from Nigeria to north Cyprus then to south life in camp was very difficult and hell then I thought after life in camp life will be little easier but it's a lie, life after camp became worster I keep paying house rent without Job I searched for job in different places but they say I can't work in any place even in factory cos I'm a refugee that I should go to the animal farm, that's where I belong I couldn't take it anymore I need to go back to my country cos I live fine back in my country but I really wanted to learn new things and make new friends not knowing everyone one of them is a fucking racist and the discrimination is too much... I hated living in Cyprus.

At the end of the day most Cypriots are refugees in their own country being displaced dure to the illegal turkish occupation in 1974. The law in Cyprus states that any refugee has the same right to GET A JOB AND WORK, just like any other Cypriot or expat. Waiting for free handouts in a county that has its own people as refugees will never work. Cyprus is a free country for anyone who wishes to CREATE A BETTER LIFE FOR THEMSELVES AND NOT WAIT FOR FREE HANDOUTS. It's just my personal opinion, as my family was displced from the illegally occupied northern Cyprus. Go to the other side and see how you will be treated in Northern Cyprus. Lets see how they would react towards you if you spoke against their governance. You wouldn't be making videos you'd be arrested. That's the difference between the two sides. Sothern Cyprus is a member of EU and Cyprus has to follow their poilicies, and it supposed that Cyprus become a member of Schengen on 2024. If Cyprus autorities are not following Schengen evaloations, the schengen members, any of them has the rights to refuse Cyprus to become a member, because of disrespecting Schengen protocols. So you have report these condition officialy to the world refugees organisations.
Cyprus has one of the greatest number of 3rd country (non-EU) immigrants per capita in EU and it is not a rich western European country. Turkey is occupying the north part of Cyprus and 1/3rd of our own population are refugees. Most of the immigrants come to Cyprus through Turkey, and Turkey is sending them here in order to create a demographic problem to Cyprus. I understand that these people are just looking for a better life and are not to be blamed, but they should go to the rich western countries, which became rich by exploiting Asia and Africa, and not to Cyprus which was a British colony itself until 60 years ago, and can not afford such a great number of immigrants.

I am a black American that also travel European Countries and like you I prefer to talk positives, but sometimes we need to shout out what a country is really like and it's people. My experiences as an American is different compared to some Africans I do understand but seeing these injustices make me so angry. I will not visit Cyprus and I will tell my travel friends not to go there either because Cyprus needs to be exposed for the human rights problem there. Cyprus is a country that has struggled for decades to stand on its own feet. Our island's history, what with suffering wars, the many attempts to be conquered and especially the Turkish invasion in 1974, left families distraught and the country with many problems still pending resolution to this day. For example, North Cyprus is only recognised by Turkey. I will agree that racial discrimination is not to be tolerated, but I must admit that most Cypriots are racist due to the aftermath of the Turkish invasion. On top of this, we are a small island, on which everyone regardless of colour and background is trying to make a living. Everyone is fighting for their rights and such as any other country, injustice exists. I am disappointed to hear these people's stories, however,I do not appreciate people generalising and giving Cyprus a bad name as a whole, as there are many Cypriots, myself included, who stand for human rights and are not racist. Cyprus may not be adequately prepared to provide for refugees, as we have also had our own refugees from North Cyprus, forced to come to the South and unwillingly start a new life. Unfortunately, the situation here will likely continue to be like this for the foreseeable future.

The first person that speaks with, is from Pakistan, which says that does not got any money, but at the same time is wearing good clothes, a clock, a good quility of mobile phone, a nice haircut and shaved... what kind of assylum seeker is that? And at the moment, Pakistan is not at war... so how he can apply for assylum?? He is an economic refugee that came to Europe to work... Well he can definitely go the villages of Cyprus in the mountains, and work in the agriculture area, but rather that he is in the Capital town. Regarding their accommodation, immigrants (not all but large number of immigrants) , do not respect the house/apartment they are living. Damaging a lot of things and leaving unpaid rent... Moreover, due to the Cyprus legislation, it will be difficult to kick off a person who is currently renting an apartment as he is protected by law, although he is not paying the rent. That's why Cypriots don't want to rent there apartments.
@Sun Rise If you are an assylum seeker in Cyprus, you receive grant by the Cyprus republic and the European union (currently Cyprus republic pays higher percentage of the grant provided, than European Union. Those money are coming from the Cypriot tax payers). This money are expected to help the immigrants to rent an apartment, buy foods or even wear clothes. In contrast, we see that this money have been spent in luxury items such as clocks, haircuts and high quality clothes... Waiting for your reply.

I am a Greek Cypriot. Cyprus has the highest percentage of immigrants (approximately 8%) more than any other European country. Moreover we had a war with Turkey before 50 years approximately, thus we have a bad feeling regarding muslims and any other minority (which is extremely reasonable). We don't want immigrants to our country as immigrants tend to choose low paying jobs that will result in lower wages for all the residents and higher unemployment rates. Moreover, most illegal immigrants don't pay taxes, such as social insurance and Gesy, but at the same time they receiving education services and health care services. This is absolutely correct. Healthcare and education has to be paid for. Historically, Cyprus has been battered politically and economically. One in 20 people in Cyprus are now an asylum seekers. This is completely unsustainable for a small island with a small population. The social climate of Cyprus is rapidly changing. It’s culture is distorting. The majority of seekers will settle and the face of Cyprus changes forever.

I came here in early 2000 legally working by filling out proper documents. I never once felt entitled that this country owes me ANYTHING. 3. Cypriots are being over taxed cause most immigrants can't or won't be taxed.

Cyprus is very racist and we have a lot of work to do, there is no excuse and we have to improve. I understand you are angry, and rightly so, but I think it would be fair to investigate why people are like that. Being a Cypriot myself I think it's Xenophobia more than racism. We have this eternal fear of disappearing from our small island. Cyprus is half occupied by the Turkish army and 40% of the people are displaced from their homes themselves. I know this should educate us more on what means to be a refugee needing help but the fear and survival instincts are there. Cyprus was colonized itself, to counter the threat people turned to nationalism and religion. Everyone outside our little group is perceived as threat to our survival on that rock.
Currently I think Cypriots are overwhelmed by asylum seekers. People mention how great France or Germany is, Countries with 50-60 million people, Cyprus is less than a one million. Like you showed in your video there is a ton of asylum seekers that you can easily identify in the street. How many asylum seekers can you randomly find in the streets of Paris or Berlin compared to the rest of the population?
Cyprus is an island in the periphery of Europe, we are the place that other Europeans come to get drunk, go swimming and then fly home. There are no opportunities for the locals either. It's isolated from it's neighbors both politically and economically making it a far off corner of Europe, instead a center of opportunity of the geographic area it resides.

When the invasion happened in Cyprus (1974) many many Cyrpiots left the island to go to Egypt to seek refuge where they were welcomed by the people and now after not so much time passed when the same people come to your country to seek refuge you decline to help them...Is that fair?

We are helping all the people that are true refugees and their country is indeed in war. The rest we must ship them back. My friend and I holidayed in Cyprus in 2018. We saw nothing of this type of discrimination until we took a day trip to Famagusta. Here we had armed guards mount our tour bus and all our passports were taken off us. We were spoken to roughly and I was so concerned for our safety, I text to my husband back in the UK to tell him what was going on. We genuinely feared for our lives. At this point they still had not discovered the mass grave of the Cypriots after the Turkish invasion. Our tour guide was even frightened. She said remember if you take out a camera you will be arrested. I would never go back. I am so sorry about the treatment the refugees are getting. This has to be addressed but who can you complain to?
Just to clarify, Famagusta is in the illegally Turkish occupied area of Cyprus. This conduct did not happen to you by actual sovereign Republic of Cyprus administration. As a Cypriot, I do not encourage visitors to go to the occupied territory. It’s at your own risk.

Cyprus is a country that sits between Africa and Europe for centuries they have dealt with people who have wanted to emigrate from Africa to Europe and yes sometimes they seem to have a very abrupt attitude towards Africans but to be frank I think we are too soft with them in our country

After that period you are then put on probation and when you do commit a crime you are instantly deported after serving any sentence

I can Not talk about Southrn Cyprus but I can tell you that from my own experiences that this is not a race problem.... In the North part, Black people are there as students they are suppose to get an education and return to their country...Over the years Cypriots had a lot of problems with these ''Students''.... 3 of them rent a three bedroom apartment agreeing they can not exeed that number than landlords findout that there are at list 30 of them coming and going to the property...recent years more and more girls are getting pregnant and giving birth in cyprus than have been giving the babies for adobtion...Only recently a shop was visited by the local council and they found out that a lot of unkown meat was smmuggeled in the country... Its not a race problem mate its how some people dont respect the fact that they are visitors and they are to fit in with the locals..

I'm a Nigerian and I came to Cyprus without making research spent alot of money from Nigeria to north Cyprus then to south life in camp was very difficult and hell then I thought after life in camp life will be little easier but it's a lie, life after camp became worster I keep paying house rent without Job I searched for job in different places but they say I can't work in any place even in factory cos I'm a refugee that I should go to the animal farm, that's where I belong I couldn't take it anymore I need to go back to my country cos I live fine back in my country but I really wanted to learn new things and make new friends not knowing everyone one of them is a fucking racist and the discrimination is too much... I hated living in Cyprus.

At the end of the day most Cypriots are refugees in their own country being displaced dure to the illegal turkish occupation in 1974. The law in Cyprus states that any refugee has the same right to GET A JOB AND WORK, just like any other Cypriot or expat. Waiting for free handouts in a county that has its own people as refugees will never work. Cyprus is a free country for anyone who wishes to CREATE A BETTER LIFE FOR THEMSELVES AND NOT WAIT FOR FREE HANDOUTS. It's just my personal opinion, as my family was displced from the illegally occupied northern Cyprus. Go to the other side and see how you will be treated in Northern Cyprus. Lets see how they would react towards you if you spoke against their governance. You wouldn't be making videos you'd be arrested. That's the difference between the two sides.

You have to report officialy to UNHCR man office in Geneva and also to the EU parliment in Brussels. Sothern Cyprus is a member of EU and Cyprus has to follow their poilicies, and it supposed that Cyprus become a member of Schengen on 2024. If Cyprus autorities are not following Schengen evaloations, the schengen members, any of them has the rights to refuse Cyprus to become a member, because of disrespecting Schengen protocols. So you have report these condition officialy to the world refugees organisations.

Cyprus has one of the greatest number of 3rd country (non-EU) immigrants per capita in EU and it is not a rich western European country. Turkey is occupying the north part of Cyprus and 1/3rd of our own population are refugees. Most of the immigrants come to Cyprus through Turkey, and Turkey is sending them here in order to create a demographic problem to Cyprus. I understand that these people are just looking for a better life and are not to be blamed, but they should go to the rich western countries, which became rich by exploiting Asia and Africa, and not to Cyprus which was a British colony itself until 60 years ago, and can not afford such a great number of immigrants.
