Great video, thank you. I actually liked the tape for drums and bass, but I preferred the in the box mix for the piano and the voice sound, cause it sounded wider and more clean.
CONSOLE by a mile. If I *had* to use cliche descriptions of what I'm feeling: 3D, glue, width, harmonically rich, yada yada. All there, all true. But most of all? the EMOTION of the song comes through and hits me where it hurts (..so good)

you do great relevant videos, Thanks. You deserve way more views. The console mix sounds the way so many of my favourite records do. The space and the cohesion, way more meaningful and engaging.
I like it too. But still prefer weight & color of the console a tad more. It’s the way the console glues the tracks together in a musical way that’s kind of hard to beat. But the api summing has a nice even response with that api puffy punch that I love. I have another console I should of rolled in an added to the mix. Maybe next time. Steve
This was a fantastic demonstration. From my perspective the console sounded the best between the three, followed by the summing print. I did not like the ITB version as it pushed everything back, the top and bottom appeared to be cut. The ITB sounded very thin compared to the other two.
Console, Summing and then ITB... The Hard "s" in the vocals lyric might need a little choking out but that happens with those "S" word lyrics, I had a guy with gap front tooth singing in my studio and was more like a whistle when the "S" words came in... Had to freq notch the vox and compress at those momentary sibilant peaks.... (It was a Demo)
Console wins hands down, clarity, roundness, punch, it just sounds much more sonically pleasing. The difference is not small. The ITB mix sounds weaker and not as emotional. The summing mixer sounds more punchier than the ITB but the clarity and precision is not as good as the console
It's crazy how even and wide the summing version sounds. For some reason the overtones and undertones sound smooth (even) The summing mixer sings the best
I would have loved to see the ITB given a better chance. Put on some plugins with harmonic distortion which will make the difference way smaller in my experience. And yez... Im biased though cause I ditched consoles 5 years ago and went ITB. It did take me a 1-2 years to get the same power out of the tracks, especially drums. But being a drummer by trade I also did not mind spending hours upon hours (lets face it: months) learning how to get the warmth and power back. Distortion (and other stuff but distortion is a lot of it) is the way. Thanks for taking the time to show us your results!
@@DarkTrapStudio yep. Been testing those for years. Currently using his final version ConsoleMC and MD. One of the best drum saturators is BTW. Tukan Preamp. Also using Melda saturator. For that ekstra analog punch on snare and bd. Tukans console plugins are also more than awesome. More radical than Airwindows. So I switch between them depending on the song at hand.
@@RiotHomeRecording I think it would also be instructive to hear the console mix with the tracks printed individually and then summed itb. And then another mix done after matching each individual track in the box as close as you can to the console but then sum it on the console and then that same mix summed itb. This would give you a few ways of isolating and comparing what the summing aspect of the console is doing.
If all tracks are recorded onto tape then all of them have an "analogue" sound caused by the process of converting electrical voltage to magnetism, then back to electrical voltage. I tend to the view that the physical limitations of recording technology as it was in the '60s and '70s enormously stimulated musical creativity. As digital gradually started taking over in music production things got easier to record the creative stimulation through the fight against the recording technology ceased to be so influential. Now virtually anything is possible "in the box", and the importance of musical skill is no longer pre-eminent - the ability to use software is ascendant. Give me musicality over technical perfection any day.

ITB is thin, no meat, great mix don't get me wrong though this isn't a comment on your mix skills as they are on point. the console mix is great, the snare has weight and pop and the vocals sound best of the three prints, the summing print has more presence and buzz about it but the vocals don't work as well as the console mix. so if you summed in the console and put the console summed mix thru 2 Chanels of the summing mixer I guess you might get the vibe im talking about.
