Easy to sink, easy to fix; too bad they didn't show the fix it part. They just pull air into the engine compartment, then the engine breathes from there. So when riding they get water in them through the air intake all the time, (especially when doing tricks like subs, etc). Normally, there isn't enough water in the compartment to sink the ski, and a venturi pump pumps the water out before it becomes an issue. Sometimes people also employ special bilge plugs with a one-way valve that also let water out, but not in. This helps with water removal. This one looks like its got one. Once the ski is full of water, its not too big of a deal as long as you handle it quick. Get the water out as fast as you can. If its a two stroke engine, then pull the spark plugs, blow the water out of the cylinders, dry the plugs, put them back in, and get the ski started ASAP. Then put it back in the water and run around for awhile - the idea is to get all the water out of the engine parts by heating to operating temp. The time that they get into trouble is if there is water in the gas, or if the engine sucks water in while running and hydrolocks under power. Water doesn't compress well and that's a way to break a piston and total an engine.
I got two questions. #1. how do you even sink a jet ski? Get water in the hull I'm guessing but how I've rode a couple skis and I've even nose dived them underwater before and it was fine just kept on going. #2. how do these things breathe? From my understanding all engines need air to run and I don't know how these engines get air without being hydro locked
They have air vents and spots for air to come in. The air filter is pretty much water resistant, so it's fine if water gets in the hull (but water usually never gets to it). There is a bilge pump to pump water out of the hull, though.
The problem here is the hood came off so it immediately fully filled with water. If the hood stays on it would be very hard. I don't want to say impossible because you never know....

Don't worry about

Hood came loose with 2 x hood straps?
You don’t have a bilge? My 08 sxr has a factory bilge
Overlevede den det der?
Water fills up the engine compartment , the. Water get in the engine so it sinks
Lol ouch!
a lot people don't realize these sink very easy you gotta stay in motion to keep them a float lean back
