AJL is not the grammys of Malaysia. It's actually a songwriting competition. It's not so much about the singer. That's why they introduced this category for best performance and later on (from 2002 onwards), the best vocal category to acknowledge the singer of the song as well. The Anugerah Industri Muzik (AIM) is the Malaysian equivalent of the Grammy awards. And that is where Siti Nurhaliza holds the record for winning the Best female vocal performance in an album category for 7 consecutive years (1999 - 2005). She won a couple more in the subsequent years. She holds the record for being the artist with the most number of awards both in Malaysia and in South East Asia, just not consecutively.
