Do you guys think....that when he did this....he ever thought about how successful/famous he would be later in his life? I mean....you look at now....Arthur Dent....John Watson....Bilbo Baggins...he's gonna become even more famous. I love him.
The ending cast the whole thing in a different light. Now we understand why he was worried about Danny using his dad's things, why there was a whole in his shoe, why the man's drawing of him was looked so worn and despondent, why he wanted a kiss. Underneath the goof was a very sad young man.
This short is magnificent. I only studied cinema for one semester, but I'm glad I did so I can appreciate things like this. Added bonus of Martin Freeman!
Must of been a little awkward for Martin at this time, for someone to play a father to his character or saying, "That's my dad's," considering that he lost his real father at a tender age.
I liked the part right before his dad was about to walk in where she touched his face and he instantly became calm and almost scared looking, but like he could just really be himself and was vulnerable. How sad it was everything he had to be avoiding.
Martin: "I'm a giraffe" *weird noise* Other guy: "I'm a panther" *Emits male-model-rays" Martin: "I'm a panda" *rawr face* My heart! I think you've killed me! x.x
you guys all do realize he was beaten at the end, right? it didnt make you feel a nit more serious than these comments show? i cried; the entire mood of the film shifted entirely.
How can he be 27 in this?! Please tell me! The sounds he makes are not of a 27 year old! He looks like a bloody adorable teenager that u want to bring home with u!
if this was turned into a movie, i'd watch it, and then that movie was turned into a book, i'd read it and listen to the audio book, then if that was turned into a tv series i'd watch and buy all of the episodes! LOVE IT
wait in the description it says this was released in 1989 but in other sources it says 1998. Which ones right? Im assuming 89 for now because Martin looks 18 here but Idk I could be wrong. He was just so cute in this :)
from what I see in this movie I think Freeman's character here wanted to kiss his bestfriend. I mean its pretty obvious that he's gay for him. He keeps looking at him when he was kissing the girl, Alice and seemed pretty upset about it. He was hesitant when Kattie (?) was going to kiss him. Plus he's father made that joke of queer and he practically kissed a guy mannequin. And he knew that his bestfriend was the one who stole the money yet he didn't accuse him.
sooo if this is actually 1998 when he made this....that would make him..*does fancy maths in head*.....about......27??? NO FREAKING WAY. NO WAY HE COULD BE TWENTY SEVEN IN THIS.
don't worry, i think everyone's brain was broken after watching that series. And because of Sherlock I finally got into the slash ships which I didn't like before :p If only this film had a sequel. I want Freeman's charac to get together with his bestfriend here. Or at least a fanfic for it
Ha, I knew it! That's Martin Freeman, as Frank, from The Office [the original, and best, British one] and the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy film. I am pretty sure this film was made in 1998, not 1989.
Martin is so adorable god

Lester Nygaard, Agent Everett K. Ross. Since your comment. Just like you said. He is a brilliant actor.
MARTIN. He's so cute and tiny and I just want to kiss him. ♥

"I'm a giraffe."
No no no no no, sweetie, /you/ are a hedgehog.

This short is magnificent. I only studied cinema for one semester, but I'm glad I did so I can appreciate things like this. Added bonus of Martin Freeman!

Ah....the scene in the bathroom....Martin's tanktop.....HOLY HELL. He was a skinny little bugger wasn't he???
My thought the entire time: "What the fuck is Martin doing? And how is he still so cute and charming?"

Martin Freeman couldn't be more adorable if he tried.
Oh! So cute! So precious! So Martin!
Must of been a little awkward for Martin at this time, for someone to play a father to his character or saying, "That's my dad's," considering that he lost his real father at a tender age.
Martin Freeman looked thin and he was funny
hOW CAN A MAN BE SO ADORABLE
agree. that would connect to the title. the manequin in the beginning and his nervousness towards the girl.. and him staring at his friend kissing....
Oh, Martin, Martin...I love you! Haha!
One of the best things I've seen in a while!!!
this was one of the weirdest short films i have ever seen....but martin is TOO ADORABLE! ahhh!
2:56.......
wish i was that statue
MARTIN, HOW MUCH MORE ADORABLE CAN YOU GET!!
I saw this back in 1998 on TV.It stuck in my head. Only occurred to me the other day that it was probably Martin Freeman in it though.
Great stuff.
I thought it was just my mind damaged from all the gay subtext that Martin gets in Sherlock, but I think you have a point!
Gosh, at the end... the end. HE KNEW WHAT HIS PAL DID and he forgave him. Just like that. That was pretty slick.
How have I not seen this before. It's amazing
Now ladies let's pretend the model in the suit is Benedict so we can all calm down untill season 3 arrives.
came here 'cause of the London Elektricity bassline sample, stood 'cause of it's a cool film!
Martin Freeman's character is about as socially awkward as I am. Most relatable character ever.
That was quite fun, I enjoyed it.
Martin Freeman.
I liked the part right before his dad was about to walk in where she touched his face and he instantly became calm and almost scared looking, but like he could just really be himself and was vulnerable. How sad it was everything he had to be avoiding.
Aughhh Martin why are you so fantastic.

Okay, someone care to enlighten me about what the eff I just watched? xD Martin, the things I do to see your adorable face...
Oh its been 8 years since you've commented it, till now I can't understand what just happened !
I don't know much about French New Wave, but Martin Freeman rocks (as usual).
Does Martin ever look back and ask himself how much gracefully he has evolved as an actor and a human?
wonderful jive.
yay, baby hedgehog!!!!
Very very nice!!!
I love Martin Freemen. I love futureshorts. I can't even begin to handle all this love. Why can't I hold all this love?
Martin: "I'm a giraffe" *weird noise*
Other guy: "I'm a panther" *Emits male-model-rays"
Martin: "I'm a panda" *rawr face*
My heart! I think you've killed me! x.x
Martin Freeman is so brilliant at being quirky! XD
I was screaming internally (and not so internally) the entire time, ohmygoodness. ♥
10:45 - they should have kissed then. Definitely.
The ending was sad and baffling, but oh my God Martin, I laughed so hard I almost vomited.

you guys all do realize he was beaten at the end, right? it didnt make you feel a nit more serious than these comments show? i cried; the entire mood of the film shifted entirely.
And Jam...Don't forget the Jam...

oh god just martin freeman thats all I have to say.
kittens, rage and jam.
wow freeman's comedic style reminds me of a young barratt, very off-the-walls and rapidfire.
I loved it! It's so nice to see a good homage to the French New Wave.
Loved this!
I agree. I also thought this best friend of his was hardly worth the energy Martin was putting into him. MARTIN I JUST WANT THE BEST FOR YOU

AWEEE Frankie, pretending nothing was wrong. Poor kid! He can come live with me instead. I want a pocket Martin.
@cptIdiot that's Martin Freeman. And yes he did later go on to play Arthur Dent in HG2G.
Martin Freeman in this kinda reminds me of Donald O'Connor in Singing In The Race. In the voices and faces he makes.
if this was turned into a movie, i'd watch it, and then that movie was turned into a book, i'd read it and listen to the audio book, then if that was turned into a tv series i'd watch and buy all of the episodes! LOVE IT
I'm a panda!!
Thank you ^^
I remember this from 'The Talent' competition on Channel 4. Good to see how Freeman is doing now.
PS this wasn't made in 1989. it was made in 1998. TYPO
His performance was like a British Jerry Lewis. Omg
This made me chuckle, Martin, how does you face even work? :P
Martin's character seems slightly mental. xD I love this.
sooo good ^^
I ... the noises martin.
My name is Catherine, and I'm an artist. I think Martin Freeman just hit on me.
wait in the description it says this was released in 1989 but in other sources it says 1998. Which ones right? Im assuming 89 for now because Martin looks 18 here but Idk I could be wrong. He was just so cute in this :)
It was made in 1998. He was 27 here.

Baby Freeman! Aww he was only 18.
sometimes i question if martin freeman is even a human. the noises.
"Tu sais l'heure?"
"Je n'ai pas un montre."
That was very interesting.
Martin. Freeman's. FACE. HOW DOES HE DO THAT?
Ha, I knew it! That's Martin Freeman, as Frank, from The Office [the original, and best, British one] and the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy film. I am pretty sure this film was made in 1998, not 1989.
