ssh, don't tell anyone, but it's actually digital. the filters are analog tho. but yeah the oscillators are digital. not that i care tho since it's way better sounding than the MFB nanozwerg which is all digital and in the same price class. it's all about what you make out of it i guess.
It's a lovely little synth and something I would love to try out especially for the detuning/chord function, but I can't shake the idea that for not very much more money you can get something that does the majority of these functions if not more. I do understand that the limitations of this synth, such as the lack of fully adjustable envelope parameters, can be turned to your advantage but it's probably not something for me.
After witnessing a teardown, I shall correct my previous statement. I noticed it's a digital osc./analogue filter hybrid. All except for 1 through hole resistor, it's all practically SMT inside. I'm now even more impressed. With that stated, I don't subscribe to over simplistic "voodoo audio" talk, but I really felt that a lot of Waldorf items (with the exception of the MW1, Wave, and Pulse) lacked a character that this synth brings.
I love Ujiie's videos so gonna write my own short review of the Waldorff Rocket here (based on having used it today - and returning it tomorrow): It sounds thinner that I'd expected. It sounds more one-dimensional than expected. It feels/sounds like a one-trick pony. The build-quality was slightly below what I had expected. The missing control for attack is a big letdown. You can't create pads. You *will* get tired of that limitation. Should I try a Moog Minitaur too? Hmmmm... It looks cool, but maybe I'm more a VST-guy, nowadays. Easier, and IMO there are VST's that sound as good as, or even better, than hardware. F.e. Diva, Repro-5, Synapse's Legend, and more.
Do modern orchestras use violins? Or digital modeling "humanized" algorithm based pattern genesis with an optical sensor tuned to recognize the movements, facial expressions, and non verbal language from the conductor to produce a "near lifelike" emulation of a violin? Many instruments to provide specific needs of many different types of people. The main issue is not been-there-done-that. More... and this is just opinion, but can it provide sounds/functions that any one individual might need.
Well you used up all your letter count to say what could have been said in one sentence, and to be honest, didn't need saying. 'If it suits somebody, let them buy it!' I didn't put that because i didn't need to, if you want it, buy it, job done!
you mean the keys? r u kiddin me? worst Built Quality in the History of Synths, Tuning Stability equals 0 and the Sound is toyish. No Comparison to a Waldorf believe me that
yeah - like drums ... all been done ... thousands of years ago? and the world has ... wait a minute, what the hell are you talking about? instruments are only dated to the ones who are more focused on trends and inventions and have forgotten about the MUSIC. plus this one sure makes for more elbow room.
the world world has moved on eh?... clearly you haven't - your personal avatar/icon is a picture of a decades old Roland synth. Why haven't you moved on? lol!
I have one of these machines. I do not speak Japanese, but the enthusiasm is contagious. Fantastic review
Be sure to look at other demos as well, This guy can make any thing sound good!
beautiful sound. One of the best waldorf synths yet.
This is absolutely great, it would work amazingly for oldskool rave and even in band styles for leads! I'm sold
wow, an analog mono synth with chords and unison! great little beast! thank you!

Seems like a renaissance for Waldorf, since they made a blofeld. Hope they will release Pulse 2 synth one day.
Thx for the video!

How do you connect to the minilab? Thanks.
could we have english subtitles please?
New video again? Cool.
Dear Waldorf, Rocket sounds fantastic. Please, make 49-keys, 4-6 voice PolyRocket version...
not to mention resonant filter percussion, sign me up!
looks jammy! I like one of those :)

Pretty sure that's just a soundcard man! (the synth is hooked into it, and the speakers are hooked out of it)
hope so, but i don't rly think it is that bad, it just makes you press too much buttons and tweak knobs less.
For such a price - awesome device
Thanks! ;)
September 2013 in Germany.
holy shit! trading my streichfet for one tomorrow. bet.
can't say i really like the sound of the rocket or blofeld.... sound like 3 dimensional VSTs or something. wish i could try some of their older gear

Sounds remember a moog
Korg volca series have basically the same features half the price.

All been done 40 years ago, the world has moved on!
Every synth does all this, and more, in many cases. Thankfully it's only £185.

The thing about this is the analog filter.

The sound is so processed that it's impossible to know the real sound of the rocket!
