  • Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau grew up in the hell that was Hitler’s Poland. Emerging from the ashes of war-ravaged Europe, little Yisrael Meir moved to Israel and started a new life, eventually following in his ancestors’ footsteps and reaching the illustrious post of Chief Rabbi of Israel, a position he held for ten years. Enjoy this exclusive interview with this paragon of persistence.

You are sooo right! Faith to me is: even if not seen is believing, because I feel in my heart and soul. Thank you Rabbi.

The best explanation. ( When he mentioned the little ginger I said to myself a little DAVID, which he confirmed in a sentence after)
    Thank You Rabbi.

A story I read here in Israel was about unbelievable belief and faith .....and much more:
A Polish Talmudic student married with a wife and 12 children was engulfed by the Shoah and only he survived.
After his release from the Concentration Camp he eventually made his way to Israel and although in his 40's an arranged wedding was entered into and from that union 6 more children were born.
They lived in a small first floor apartment in a very religious suburb and had Security Screens fitted on all the windows.
One day somehow a fire broke out and all were trapped inside, unable to escape as a window had not been fitted with a lock [as prescribed by Law] to open in such a situation.
Again miraculously he was the sole survivor.
When asked how he managed to keep his faith in G-d after 'loosing' 2 wives and 18 children he simply answered 'G-d gives and G-d takes'.
Perhaps that was the only way he could come to terms with such calamities....a person without faith would probably have given up.

I have been a big fan of R'Lau since I saw the picture of him sailing into Chaifa(I think) as an adorable 8 year old. Unbelievable! When I read his story it just melted me - I look at my kids and I've often wondered how R'Lau and his brother did it.
