I took my Olympus for its maiden flight today and I must say I’m very impressed. It really does knife edge as you’ve suggested, it just rolls and locks in! It’s a strange plane to fly when your not used to dedicated pattern ships though; it’s strange for the plane to not turn into a circuit when aileron is added, it has to have rudder, but I suppose that’s what allows it to roll and knife edge so precisely!
It’s going to take a bit of getting used to, but a very impressive piece of kit!

For a foam airplane it is an extremely precise pattern ship.... I still have mine:)

RCINFORMER that’s good to know Rich, it’s obviously impressive then if you’ve kept yours all this time.
Would you say I’m right in saying that you need quite a bit of rudder input for flying circuits? Or obviously a little up elevator if the plane is being banked far enough would also turn it

Just bought one of these, and after nearly crashing it due to the factory CG setting being so far out, I have to agree it IS the best aircraft I have ever flown in 40 years of flying.
Beatifully smooth handling at 55% power, ,and absolutely ballistic at 100.
Follow the recommended throws and rates - ESPECIALLY for the ailerons - but totally ignore the manual's CG. It is massively tail heavy at their recommendation - virtually unflyable.
Al in all though , the best value for money plane imho

    • @Thebankfisher
      @Thebankfisher 4 роки тому

The smaller version explorer is the same way ....cg is way tail heavy ... Always go by the thickest part of the wing and you will have no problems....

Just getting ready to do a maiden flight. I am a little afraid of the CG specified in the manual. Any advice on where I should start with my CG. Thank you

@@davidparker2627 I would start at 15mm behind the recommended dimension. It may sound a lot, but at least if it's nose heavy it's still gonna fly. I don't have mine anymore so I can't give you the exact size. Wonderful flier when it's sorted.
      Flies hands off inverted.

NO, however it does come with a REFLEX flight stabilizer. You simply plug in your own NON-stabilized receiver and fly! all the gains are set and ready to go!

  • @Thebankfisher

I know there is easy access to the motor and esc on these but is there enough room for 7s 4500mah in there ? Possibly remove the lock in tray and Velcro directly to the foam ? I like to set these pattern planes up for speed with high pitch props ...12x12 or 13x12

This is a very good and stable airplane.
One flaw - Look where the aileron servos are installed on the lower side of the control surface.Basic physics ignored !!!
Torque = force x distance. With the pivot (servo motor) positioned at the farthest end, the force required to move the load (ailerons in this case) over the distance would cause the servo motor to overload and eventually break.
Bad placement of the aileron servo. It should be positioned in the center of the control surface, for longevity of the servo and optimum performance.
