In this how to DIY Custom grip tape vlog I'm showing you how I go about my custom skateboard grip tape design process. There is no right or wrong way for something like this, but there are a few tips and hacks that can help you when setting up your next board and you want to get creative with the griptape!

Collage looks fantastic. I do recommend when laying the pics on there to use a very light layer of a spray adhesive if the pics run all the way to the edge. That way it doesn't tear off from some crazy skate shit.

started doing grip art a while back. used to just do vert stripes cause most boards i ride had top graphics. but when i went to japan and skated with some guys that did griptape art i was like damn. just looks so much more fun to skate those. since then i did 5 boards. gripping boards is now such a nice and relaxing activity. just take your time and see it all come together.

I definitely need to explore grip tape art. Really liking the idea of a magazine cut out under the transparent grip - out of interest with your collage you used tape on the corners, was that to hold it in place or for aesthetic? Could you not PVA glue it in place, then once it dries, grip over top?
I’ve wanted to do grip art for a while so I tried drawing on my board and it didn’t go well but I definitely want to try agin try to do something like yours

I'm debating whether or not to put rails on my new deck. It's an 8.5 so I'll probably mostly use it for transition.
It's fun! You can always take them off.

I dont know I'd anyone has mentioned it here yet, but if you're using spray paint on your grip tape dont go too heavy. Many times I've put to much on my grip and ruined its ability to grip to my shoes

Do you lose some grip on the parts where it’s spray painted?
I try to do a super light coat, that way it's just a thin layer on top. If you do it too thick, it'll make your "grit" less deep, and you'll loose grip for sure.
if you're careful to not overdo it, I did some red stripes on a sheet of grip once and the red was too much unfortunately.

Does spray painting the top of the deck effect the grip
Got a huge pic stenciled and sprayed on my deck and I haven't noticed any difference.
Just don't spray a thick layer, nice and thin so the grit stays sharp.

I spray painted the grip tape of a brand new deck....
it was no longer Griptape
it became slipperytape / ANTI GRIP TAPE
DO NOT EVER SPRAY PAINT UR GRIP TAPE COS IT WONT BE GRIPPY ANYMORE
@@tremolony4924 The caps lol!! If you spray to much paint on the grit, you're creating a new layer on top of the grip & yes, it'll be slick. They key is to keep it LIGHT, one coat.
