An incredibly transformative effect. I can only image how good the game would look if it were given true native raytracing with pbr materials and not just screen space.

This game is still such a gem even after a decade and a half.
Of course, the one place this treatment would look great would without a doubt be the Dark Jedi fight in the Carbonite chamber.
Additionally, since there are many visual mods including updated Stormtrooper textures, improved weapon effects, and even possibly some sort of HDR for better lit skies, I think we've barely scratched the surface of how good we can make this look.

This is the first time that I can see the actual benefit in having ray tracing (i.e, having an environment which needs it). This is awesome.

I've always thought Jedi Knight 2 and Jedi Academy would age really well if they had a few upgrades. The iDtech 3 engine is an absolute beast. For those who don't know, that engine was used for Call of Duty (albeit heavily modified) for a veeeeryyy long time. They used it well into the 2010s. The engine is uncredited, because it was likely so different by then, but its the same engine.
Brings back old memory’s loved Jedi outcast. Loved Jedi Academy 2 even more my favorite Star Wars game make 1 on Jedi academy 2 plz

Both developed by the legendary Raven Software.
And before that there was "Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II" which was a sequel to "Star Wars: Dark Forces" both developed by LucasArts.

Not fair haha. I did it first but didnt have mind to record. (Hint: Gunz guny and gunx can move the gun model) its possible to throw them into a autoexec.cfg file with this text

Just note I got no clue where you put it or if it actually needs all those lines. I just copied it from folder to folder testing until they would auto input ingame. To tweak just type those commands into the console and find number you like then edit the autoexec.cfg so it has those changes. (also it took some smarts to find these commands originally. I think I decided to search for quake 3 viewmodel commands and found it on some ancient forum post.)
Imagine this with machine learning so it can upscale the textures to 4k....

Main issue is effects dont work in MP (intentional by original devs of mod) Also last I tested dont work very well in SP either.

No I don't use ssr, you can't even Spot that? I use the GGX Mode of marty's rtgi shader from Version 0.10
I noticed your GPU isn't a raytracing one (a 1080 ti). Usually non-RTX GPUs shit the bed when having to do anything raytracing, how many FPS do you lose with this raytracing setting enabled?
I know it's JK2 it's old so it doesn't matter, I'm just curious, did you go from 500 FPS to 200 FPS or something lol
It doesn't kill FPS that bad, only about 10fps down. But it still looks wierd as whenever you enter new areas, the lighting seems to "snap" to the new area instantly, which is very noticable. And you have to adjust the ray count in the options to make it look like the video above. JO is still a very wierd looking game with wierd flat grey lighting, I enabled the technicolour shader which can make it look more vibrant but that makes other areas appear much too bright.
uff, very nostalgic, one of my preferred games of those times, along with Jedi Academy they came out before, what a good memory of my Intel PIII @ 800mhz and 512mb of ram, lol !!

@@cinegraphics Fat chance! You know there is an HD overhaul texture you can easily port for free from JKHUB? It's made for Jedi Academy and I am sure it will work for Outcast. I seen models work. However, when it comes to texture maps I am not sure but you can contact the modder and he can easily do it for free? Why would you pay 250,000 dollars when you can easily use the quake engine? ANYONE can easily change this texture through software? Every JEDI gamer knows this for years. TROLL. Don't pay 250,000 dollars for this bullcrap request you need! Go to JKHUB and ask forums or in JKA servers and find modders!
JKHUB has HD textures you'll find plenty for them! Jedi Academy already has one! I use it and love it! Check my channel :D

Yeah, that was a very cool game. I hated it at first because it was horribly slow (on my old graphics card), but once I bought myself a new card it was just amazing. Of course, not by today's standards, but still.

@@Absolutx i wasted so much time on this game as a kid. If you have it on pc make sure to look into the console commands and try maxing out your force powers lol. You can mind control storm troopers and force choke and a lot more that you couldn’t usually do during the campaign. You can also turn into an x wing or drive an at-st whenever you want lmao

this is amazing, I was hoping since Quake RTX came out that tech would be ported to jedi academy since it is a similar engine. Do you have a tutorial to make it work for Jedi outcast?
Yeah, it's pretty easy.
I'm actually the one who helped Digital Dreams get correct modern resolutions setup since the Steam version is older than the GOG version, and initially tried everything, just to discover that the compatibility flag in Windows was still set.
Anyway, Quake 2 RTX doesn't run on id Tech 3 like Quake 3 does, so porting actual full RT capabilities will be much harder.
However, Marty's RTGI shader adds Screen Space RayTraced Global Illumination, so it makes it look completely different from the original game.

I downloaded the preset from the discord server and it looks nothing like in the video... I payed for the patreon to get this thing and it is useless, nowhere near the same results as in the video. What am I doing wrong?! Seems like a scam to get people to sub to a patreon

Im having so many issues trying to do the same with academy on multiplayer. Ive tried every .exe and open gl and dx9, but still cant get the reshade menu to open up. Any tips?
Don't name "ray tracing" to every offect, cause you get people confused. Those are screen space reflections.
The provided preset does not give the effect exhibited in this video. The roughness param must be lowered a lot and SSR should be enabled. Please update the preset. It's wrong.
I also had to increase the ray length by over double the standard preset value

Can someone help me out here? I've downloaded ReShade and selected Jedi Outcast (with OpenGL) and even though ReShade is loaded, I can't open the settings in-game when I press 'home'. I've tried reinstalling it but with no luck. Has anyone else had this issue? Am I being an idiot?

This acts like there's no such thing as specular maps without raytracing. All they had to do was turn on specular maps and you'll be fooled into thinking raytracing is that much better.

Technically is path tracing. Two I think all vids include path tracing. That said reflections arent path traced because that requires rendering objects the game isnt designed to render (Off screen) Which would likely require a engine rewrite (or new renderer). Its the bounce lighting/colors that is path traced because there is enough data on screen for it have a use.
