Wow Cookman! I grew up watching this band as a Central Florida native. I've always enjoyed Cookman but over the last 30 years this band has changed tremendously in musicianship and sound, not to mention the size! BCU and FAMU were programs that influenced my career decision. Oddly, I didn't attend either. :) Yet, now a seasoned music educator myself, I must say that I am extremely impressed with the development of BCU's music program. Usually HBCU marching units are loud, distorted, no musicianship. The Marching Wildcats are a marching contradiction to the norm. Awesome musicianship and showmanship on the field. Who says you can't have both in marching units? I'm impressed with the development of the overall program and would not hesitate to recommend BCU to students for further music study and/or musical experiences.
I will give props where props are due. This is NOT your grandfather's BCC band!! Awesome performance, truly one to be reckoned with. Now can you add a decent exit to the show??? Just take it off the field instead of just running off!!
