Ladies and gentlemen, distinguished guests, and esteemed advocates for sustainable innovation in the textile industry.
I stand before you today as we commemorate a significant milestone in the Philippine textile industry. In celebration of National Arts Month, the partnership between the DOST-Philippine Textile Research Institute and my Office has led to the creation of the KatHABI Textile Innovation Exhibit, a platform that showcases groundbreaking developments in sustainable textiles.
This exhibit represents the culmination of our collaborative efforts, highlighting three key areas of innovation. First, we take immense pride in presenting the Philippine Tropical Fabrics (PTF) Uniforms, a testament to our commitment to promoting local textile production and supporting the livelihoods of our farmers, weavers, and artisans. As the principal author and co-sponsor of Republic Act No. 9242 or An Act Prescribing the Use of the Philippine Tropical Fabrics for Uniforms of Public Officials and Employees and for Other Purposes, I encouraged all agencies, to not just rely on the law and the Revised IRR to bring to fruition the benefits of this law but to come up with a roadmap that could contain the universe of all uniforms and fabric needs of all government personnel and functions.
