This entire call sums up the exact type of person who needs Dave Ramsey’s advice. Like they need to follow every step in the plan.
Yea, only one exact type. Fits into the perfect profile. 😂😂😂😂
Hahaha! Brainwashed.
The real dopamine comes when you have zero debt AND you have enough savings to handle any emergency. This Memorial Day weekend my water heater sprung a leak. I called a plumber immediately and they'll be out at my house next Thursday to replace the water heater. I have the money in the bank to pay for this big house repair. It feels so good not to be throwing the repair on a credit card. Priceless!
I'm proud of you😅
@@traceycancio1795 a water heater? What insurance? Never heard of any insurance covering that unless it was some kind of specific insurance or stupid warranty.
@@traceycancio1795 No. Home Insurance does not cover an older water heater tank that starts leaking. Every old appliance breaks eventually. Maybe a household appliance insurance company might, but I insure myself by saving money rather than paying monthly premiums. I have home owner's insurance for other home calamities like fire or a car driving into your home. Household appliance insurance can be expensive and then you are at their mercy. I'd rather put the $50-$100 monthly premium into my savings account than give it to an insurance company. My neighbor's hot water tank broke over 3 weeks ago and they still don't have hot water. They are going through their home insurance company because floors were ruined. They have a $1,000 deductible they have to pay and they have to wait for the insurance company to approve and schedule the work. They also have to use the company the insurance company approves.
I see those same scenarios on commercials for places like Cash in advance, title max, payday advance, etc. I always feel sorry for those people in the commercials because I know those places are such a ripoff...
@@eleven57icare So true. Save your pennies for a rainy day and keep the middle men out of the equation.
“….You hesitated” Dave is razor sharp 👏🏾💯💯💯
That hesitation was clear and long. Don't have to be too sharp to notice it
I have 99 problems but a credit card ain’t one.
😂I'm right there with you brother. Never owned one as of today
Got rid of ours 25 years ago. Peace.
I have about 4 credit cards and none of them have balances on them. People like this are insane and undisciplined
Right on your tail. Just three left from 12.
@@yougotgamesonyourphone6947 I pay my balance every week. I hate to pay interest on credit card. Only have 2 CC. I will loose sleep if I have debt. I have medical bills and it's driving me crazy but I'm making monthly payment so that's no problem. I can pay it off but don't wanna use my emergency fund for that.
How the hell do you acquire 17 credit cards?? And keep all of them straight?? WTF?
Who says you need to keep them straight?
I have ten but only use 3 and 1 is only for lowes
I cannot imagine.
She’s a grown up. Grown ups keep track of what they owe
That makes me nauseous. 🤢 🤮
My husband is like this. I handle the bulk of our finances and I checked our Home Depot store card today (we’re paying off our zero turn mower) and he’s spent $1,600 on who knows what in the past 45 days. Apparently it’s on file at the store. I told him we can’t out earn stupid spending. Period.
Curious, are you guys debt free other than the new Home Depot charge? Or still working on debt?
No, Home Depot does not keep credit card files at the store. You should be able to access your credit card purchases online. In addition, during the checkout process, you have the option to receive an email receipt of the purchases. No more, “Oops, honey, I lost that paper receipt.” He just has to tap that little button to have the email sent to you.
In all seriousness tell him. Not us. Sounds like you need to sit down and have some discussions on why he’s spending.
This is what happens when savers marry spenders. Savers like us deserve to be with other savers. Sigh.
"You just drive past the hospital and they send you a $7,500 diagnostic bill." Dave is HILARIOUS! 🤣🤣
It's sadly freaking true
He said $75. Not $7,500
One credit card wasn't enough so I got 16 more.
Lol
I blame all these UA-camrs telling people to get credit cards. It should be illegal.
Yup. People "teaching" others to credit card churn to go on vacations. 😮 Not smart.
this is why i stay away from credit cards
Husband needs to regulate
17 open credit cards is insane. It would be very hard for me to keep track of their due dates every month.
I'm never going anywhere near credit cards stay away from them
Pay them all on the 1st of the month (or any day of your choosing).
But you get 2% back!
It's funny that when I saw an advertisement before this video it was a car commercial and they were talking about financing a car LOL😊
🤣😂
People don’t factor risk in life when they borrow.
Everyone assumes they will always be healthy.
Welcome to Orange County lifestyle. And everywhere else.. 😮Glad to hear she reached out!!!
I m not progressing with my relationship of 2 yrs cz my bf is careless about $ and that is a deal breaker for me😢
I wish I would've done that. I'm married and my wife still won't fully disclose everything financial. I find out she has more cc debt when a new bill comes in the mail. 😢 She also makes 6 figures as a therapist.
@@kurtjames9487 doesnt matter how much you make if you spend every penny before you get your paycheck!
So you have wasted 2 years already, how many more are you going to lose ?
@@perotal I always say "Love is love, but marriage is business." My guy over here likes to spend money, so I won't sign papers and he has no access to my funds. Our financial habits don't align, but we're otherwise compatible and happy with the status quo.
This call sounds like a rehab discussion. Its really a drug to spend money you dont have
Once I started viewing CREDIT CARDS as loans, it was a gamechanger...🤑🤑
At least 2. Another as a backup.
I prefer 2, especially to maximize the perks.
No Christmas for tracy
If you’re in a no debt other than home mortgage situation, it should scare you to take on debt. It should scare you not to have an emergency expense fund. It should scare you not to have at least 3-6 living expenses in the bank.
Those are healthy “scares”. And if you have all that sadly covered, those “scares” disappear.
Simple solution: put into the budget a monthly allowance for personal spending for each of you; this is money you can spend without asking your spouse. The rest of the budget you always decide TOGETHER.
How do you end up with 17 cards and not end up looking at yourself somewhere down the line and realizing that you have a problem? Like 17? That’s insane lmao
And think of all the stuff cluttering up their lives--clothes, jewelry, appliances. Ug.

I have 12 or 14 cards because I’m a points category person, it none have ever had any balance on them. To rack up balances on these cards one after another is bonkers.
It happens
DOnt use credit cards if you have spending problem. I love credit cards for rewards and cash backs . But it is advantageous only if you manage your money and spending only on things sensibly.
Sell the wife immediately
rice and beans
Stupid move. The husband would lose half of fortune lol
He could put her on Craigslist, but unfortunately they shut down the "dating" section of the website!

Emotional momentum -- that's what happened to me with student loans... I'm on my last big ones now but it helped being able to stomp through the small ones first! These last three were 1/3 of the debt but getting through the 16 smaller ones felt good and gave me the inertia to slug through these final ones.
Great as always Dave.
CCs are not for people that can't control their emotions.
She's going to have more cards later.
She likes the cards.
If you get rid of debt too fast. Then you might think that debt is not too bad. There needs to be a little struggle.
Yes! I have so much hope for the future ever since I realized the amount of debt I can pay off this year with hard work and discipline.
Im thinking there are more credit cards than ppl in the U.S of A. 🤷♀️🤦♀️
There Are😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks!
The motivational avice at the end I replayed 10 times. You can see the math, you can feel it, you can see it being done, you do it. Amen
And every time I apply for one, I get denied
I don’t think HAVING ccs is the issue…USING them in an irresponsible manner is. I have several with very high limits and no balance. They don’t eat or cost anything to have , but they’re a last resort in an emergency. People don’t have self control anymore
DAVE RAMSEY HELPING US OUT THE TRENCHES
Dave is right. If someone based on math, she can do it. Buying things has always an emotional attachment with it, thats why its hard.
With $13k incoming and $19k debt, I would be tempted to pay off the largest balances with the bonus money. Then snow ball the minimums of the paid off debt to pay off the other debts smallest to largest. $6k to debt free is $6k but when working with "real money" vs "bonus money", having smaller and achievable wins is better when learning to budget, cash flow your purchases, beginning to see and internalize beyond making minimum payments, etc...
She is getting a car because she “deserves” it; what’s another $40k?
@@David-wo9un yeah .... Im catching this type of world view from a number of people about vehicles and a number of other things.
I agree 100%, I’d pay off the bigger balances too, as many as I could
Dave: It's not a heebie-jeebie, mysterious stuff, it's just like gosh, I can actually do this.
That's the math part. Once it is written down, the vision becomes clear. When we have a clear goal, we become enthusiastic.
Do we ever have an adult call that has common sense?
The problem is that most people in america dosent have one.
What fun would that be? People who drop oh, I don't know, maybe $60-$80k on a vehicle while making a salary of $50k make us feel better about ourselves and provide entertainment on the drive to work.
There is no such thing as common sense anymore. It became rare sense a long time ago.
Yes, but they aren't the learning moments like this one is.
@Sweetie Spoon yes. Smart calls would be boring.
Basically Dave Ramsey’s advice is don’t buy anything stupid. There 👏🏻
Sounds like a true Californian. If my wife did that, I’d be filing divorce papers. She lucky her husband is willing to put up with that crap.
Depends how much you make really. Her bonus is $13K, so pretax tax is about $18K. Assuming 10% bonus, she's making somewhere around $180K a year. It sounds like she's very capable; it's easier to get someone to cut their spending than try to have someone who can't make good money into making almost a quarter million a year. lol. Remember you can't save what you don't earn, so she's got potential. $19K in debt is nothing in compare to what she makes if my assumptions are correct.
@@Steven-xf8mz You are assuming she told you her net amount. She didn't specify.
@@LDM805 that's why I said depends, the assumed 10% is the norm I have seen in my years of work and ppl I have heard from. It is possible her work is an outlier.
Shes hot. Men marry for looks and will usually put up with anything if she is hot enough
She needs to get rid of credit cards. I have a friend like this. She’s great staying on budget with cash but give her plastic and she loses all brain cells.
She's not done.
Holy guacamole! 17 cards open and paying $754 on all of them. The $754 must be paying just the minimum on each one. She must have a wall chart to keep track of them all. Her husband has right to not just be "not happy" about that, he has a right to be outraged.
"As he says....I have a spending problem..." LOL WHAT. You need him to tell you that??
When did they switch from headphones to ear pieces?
At 63 cents per stamp, if the statement and payment were done thru the mail, the postage alone would be over $21 per month for 17 credit cards
How’s that math done? Sending payment by mail at $0.63 for 17 cards is only $10.71….
@@benjaminhough8804 the credit card company has to send a bill in the mail
@@kleindropper But I wouldn’t pay that…why would I care about their postage costs?
Who uses stamps anymore, my guy?
@@marksweetser6312 A comparison for illustrative purposes only. And the answer is old people.
Does Dave still recommend Every Dollar for a budgeting tool?
Yeah, so glad she is making this call and not the spouse. It doesn’t help when the spouse calls, and the other one has the problem. Yeah, I’m glad it’s her bonus and not her husband’s.
Ive been bad with money like most, but 17 credit cards has to be a record.
No kidding!
Dave asks, “ Are you DONE ? “ Back in the Stone Age when I was in school, our teachers used to give us little rules of the English language. This one was a biggie for us. “ Cakes and pies get DONE. People get FINISHED . “
As an elder millennial, one of the few advantages is having lived through the Great Recession. My advice. Reduce unnecessary expenses, increase your savings by investing in financial markets and do not sell. One thing I know for sure is that diversifying your income can help insulate you from much of the craziness going on in the world.
@Margaret22- Only a good FA will be enough to guide you through the current market volatility. I've been speaking with an advisor for a while now, primarily because I don't have the necessary expertise or stamina to handle these recurrent market conditions. The fact that I made over $220K during this downturn proved that there is more to the market than the typical person is aware of. The greatest course of action right now is to have an investing consultant, especially for people who are nearing retirement.
@@Aziz__0 We’re only just an information away from amassing wealth, I know a lot of folks that made fortunes from the Dotcom crash as well as the 08’ crash and I’ve been looking into similar opportunities in this present market, could this coach that guides you help?

The bigger question is what banks let her open 16 credit card without paying off the other ones
Department store credit accounts.
$1k cards are nothing . Do you think the banks care in the least about that amount? Their goal is to get those in everybody’s pockets. Even if a small percentage fail they make a fortune on the rest that dont. And then they write off the ones that fail . It’s win win for the banks no matter what happens with them.
I don't think she's done.
She needs the Ramsey advice, as most people do. I just made a video on my channel about the baby steps vs the financial order of operations! She needs the baby steps
Only date when you're on baby step 4 or higher and only date people baby step 4 or higher.
You could try to open a card at 0% for 14 months and do a balance transfer and aggressively pay off the credit card.
You don't give someone with a credit card problem another credit card.
She's from the OC. My guess is she's trying to keep up with the Joneses
Why does someone needs seventeen cards?
Provide store credit cards
I have like 12-14 but nine have any balance. She has them because she keeps wanting to spend and maxes out each one in succession
3 decades ago I stopped shopping at Sears because they always pestered me into applying for a Sears charge card.
In this instance, I would knock out the bigger cards. The ones under 1k are easier to pay off living paycheck to paycheck imo. I’d knock them bigger balances out with the bonus.
He should divorce her after she pays them off
No. Just no.
Can we go back and ask simple questions on their income and bills.
I was told that if I close out my credit cards. It will ruin my credit. I’m at a 750 now. I’m disabled so I can’t invest so how do I keep my credit up?
Ask the Lord Jesus for advice.
What's a bonus check? Must be nice
Should pay down the biggest cards first / highest interest to avoid the higher interest
She can readily spend as much as she wants to. When her husband gripes about her spending she can dramatically claim he's financially abusing her. Then in seperation she'll get her money from him anyway, leveraging a kangaroo divorce court and she'll spend spend spend more and more again.
America is so broken
Seventeen cards? Cripes! I sometimes worry about having as many as three. The answer? Pay-off the most expensive cards first.
17 credit cards 🤯🤯 My husband and I have zero credit cards and are mortgage and debt free with 3 properties in our Forties.
How can one have 17 credit cards jeez i dont even have one😂
I just keep thinking about the moment someone has 15 credit cards with a balance and is like “time to get number 16.”
She’s on Amazon right now spending that $13,000. Anyone believing she’s going to pay off those credit cards doesn’t understand addiction.
Avalanche works better in this situation. She’s still knocking several cards out. Might as well “feel the momentum” as well as “save” money on interest
I would rather watch content from Ramsey Solutions such as Dr. John Delony, Ken Coleman and Rachael Cruze is like watching the news that is neutral and truth telling. I like the taste of pure truth.
One the one hand, it's a bummer that her bonus has to be spent knocking out credit card debt, but it's good that she's getting that $13k and will see her credit card debt go down to $6k

Hey, you should give her the time to tell you how much they make and what they already have. I think two types of people call in. One is really screwed up and the other is calling to brag. I can’t believe people would call to a national platform and told the world how much they. Their colleagues or family could be listening or watch the UA-cam.
I'd say i have a spending problem too but i also have a limiter to make sure i dont max out a card or get drowned in debt - 7yrs of credit history around 100k access to credit 100% payments on time eat that DAVE!

I think everything I see and hear these days is an advertisement for MGTOW
I hate to say it but we need spenders in this country.. if no one spent there money the economy would collapse
Society needs stupid people - just make sure it's somebody else.
We need people who spend money they have, not money they don't have.
We neee people to both save and spend. Savings are investment. Investment creates capital and value. Your money in the bak doesn’t actually just sit there, it’s your neighbor’s mortgage, it’s a business loan for an entrepreneur trying to take a risk to grow something new. Your money in the market is liquidity in markets and cash in business accounts doing the same. It’s how a new technology or process is invented that grows the economy. Your spending money you have is another item to be manufactured.
Spending makes them go day to day, but saving is how the economy grows over time.
Dave Ramsey, you need to look within, you are not living like a true Christian, you should never put profit before your fellow human beings.
