Suggestion: if you make 2 of those 45 degree creases each time, you can make 2 folds each time instead of one, skipping the step of reversing the long creases. Try it. It is 3 times faster and easier. But do fold the long creases both ways at the begining. I like to finish making all the 45 degree creases before making 2 folds each time.
Nice tip, but I tried it his 2 ways and then your way. I would recommend doing what he did: starting with the first way, because it's easier to do, then once you get the hang of that then do the 2nd way, which is faster, but a little harder to understand. Your way, though, was the fastest, but, it seemed to make it sloppier, like, a lot.
Thank you for your tutorial for transforming an ordinary piece of paper into something magical. And unlike conventional magic tricks, mastering this procedure doesn't diminish the otherworldly beauty of the results.
I checked almost all origami tutorials, but this one is the most simple, comprehensive, professional and easy to do for a beginner like me. Thank you sooo much!!!🙏😍❤💋
my mom has a shirt like this. I called it the pineapple shirt because with all of the creases it looked like a pineapple. The shirt itself was very tiny- like a pug could wear it. But because of all of the folds- it could fit any body type. Maybe in the future - all clothing would be made this way- no more figuring out what size you are. It will also reduce costs (less waste) and less stress of shopping.
Ok so I never looked it up until now. The first link I clicked on - that looked like my mom’s pineapple shirt- sold shirts called ‘Magic Bubble Shirts’ or ‘Popcorn Shirts’. www.magicbubbleshirts.com/

Following your excellent instructions, I did complete this model; however, I could never imagine how anyone could make the one with a smaller, tighter grid. Making the folds for this model was hard enough, but for me, attempting to make the folds on that model with the tighter grid, seems like an impossible task.
My daughter won an award for first place in the school on her 8th grade art project for this. Something so complicated as origami, you make it look so simple. Her's was super beautiful.. wish I had a picture but they took it for display never gave it back. Oh well thanks for the video 😊
ahnanda68 Wow congrats to her! And thank you! I've always been fascinated with the "organized chaos" of origami, and this model seems to exemplify that well.
Oh my god, I'm so glad I found this tutorial. Wish I found it sooner tho, lol. Like, seven months ago, I saw this tesselact origami thing on Pinterest, which is like in Russian, and I have no idea what it said and there's no instructions how to do it. And me a dum dum, didn't search it up on UA-cam, and tried and failed and hours upon oodles of hours of creasing (without the steps this video was showing) I finally got it and made it into a Cape and put it on a penguin statue.... I just want this story to get off my chest lol.
Thanks, James! I demonstrate this fold using a different technique then I use the sheet to make some really cool artwork. I wanted to offer my viewers an example of folding it that is easier, so I linked to your video. I wanted to let you know and thank you for your demonstration. It helps out my viewers a ton!
Mr Ed Draws No problem, I'm glad I could help. I just watched your interpretation and can't say I've ever seen anyone do that before. It looks great, especially with the different lighting angles.
I have a feeling trying this with plain 8.5x11 paper myself would result in the paper ripping long before the end. I don't know what magical office supply store you go to, but good job.
Hi, I just saw your video and was very pleased to see it. It is going to help me a lot in my project where I wanted to create something like the origami solar panel design by NASA, but failed several times. But thanks to you for such a detailed video. I am not that into origami, but you instructions played well. Thanks a lot😇😇😇
Thanks for putting this up! I tried to do this with 16 folds, stopped then tried just with the eight folds and it was easier to figure out how to manipulate the changes in folding! Very helpful clip. My you have very long fingers Mr. Randolph.
While I was watching, I thought you could use this pattern to make very beautiful flowers, and origami princess frocks etc etc... There are sooo many uses of this beautiful origami pattern!! This is amazing.
This stuff is pretty basic for tessellations and advanced origami, you could probably do this in about ten minutes. Have you seen the origami dragon's egg? That model takes a metric shitton of time to learn.
This can be used for so many things! I first found this video a few years ago, but gave up in frustration. Today, I came back because I needed this pattern for something and I tried again and it all makes sense! Thank you!

Could you upload more origami fold patterns? Or maybe a tutorial on how to intervene a existing pattern like this to create new ones (like guidelines to not overlook or the math of the thing, I don't know)
Thanks for the video. I was struggling to achieve this. The second iteration was the hardest to me as you said. After that the construction was faster and i'm shure i will be able to build it again with no more struggle. ¡Cheers from Iztapalapa, México!
I am curious as to the sound dampening effect this might have. Imagine covering all of the walls in a room with panels of these made of a heavy weight paper such as 300 gsm or higher. Just to see if this would replace environmental damaging polymer sound dampening panels.
I decided to try this again after re-discovering it. Instead of folding the top in two direction s, i just folded it one direction. A lor easier and i've finally finished it for the first time
Impressive and beautiful, unfortunately it is way beyond my capabilities. I managed to do the 3rd row until my paper tore...I want to try it again, since maybe the paper I used was to thick. Thank you very much for the tutorial, it was very instructive :)
I was wondering if there exists an origami technique that can fold a paper in the horizontal and verticale direction indepetently with a minimum of influencing resp. the vertical and horizontal folding direction?
Such a good tutorial!👏👍 I've been searching for tutorials, because I'm a mess at reading diagrams, and yours is the only one I could learn from. Thank you so,so much for showing us this! Thanks to you, I could spice up my Architecture portfolio 😇
thank you for showing these magnificent pleats - question : I need to hang it up in a frame - where can I best stick it of sew it to a cardboard background ? thank you
It really just comes down to accurate folding. I consider myself to be fairly experienced with origami but was looking for a more simple model to introduce tesselations to a friend of mine when i found this video. So, with that information in mind, my advice would be to just make sure every single fold you make lines up as perfectly as you can get it. No matter which fold. Try again with this in mind, and let me know how you do! :)
@@jessicareeves8519 part of the reason this happens is because the fold through all layers is inefficient, as well. If you want, you can just cut off the end as well :P

It makes it easier to fold for beginners, but you end up with many unused folds that you may not want to have.
