I will admit that I am a huge fan of simplistic logos on headstocks. I think that Tanglewood used to do a very simple scrolled T on their headstocks, which I liked. Sadly, quite a few of the manufacturers and makers of Ukuleles seem to be swinging towards trying to cram a bunch of "brand name" on the headstock. Again, simply my observation and opinion. I prefer a minimalistic approach to headstock layout and design, because it makes me feel that I am walking around with a playable advertising billboard for a manufacturer when they cram their name on the headstock.
Meet a new enthusiast who had bought that uke as her first, the fret wires were horribly sharp! I suggested she take it back to the seller for help, can't imagine playing that instrument for more than a few moments. I suppose an overly dry environment could have also the problem, but watching your review made me feel justified in my suggestion of going to the seller. Love your vids!
Tanglewood's a bit hit and miss eh Baz? I've set up a few (guitars too) that are really nice - and a few that were rather bad. I want to support them as a British company - but they need to work on their consistency across the models.
GotAUkulele Awesome! I was wondering, have you any Eddy Finn Uke reviews? I saw a couple of their unique shaped ukuleles and wondered how they perform.
Good morning. Nice review. Looks every bit like most of it was imported from China and that's not nessarily bad since even some of the Hawaiian manufacturers are having their low end laminated ukuleles imported. If that's true I think the price may be a bit steep. Nice instrument none-the-less.
Great review, as usual, but I'm not a big fan of Tanglewood, TBH. If you get a "good" one, they're fine, but I've had a couple of acoustics from them in the past (one an electro) and got rid of them both pretty quickly. They looked good but were overpriced, had wandering intonation, iffy electronics (which lasted about a week) and, overall, were sadly lacking in the quality department. Just my take tho...
As I always say - there's little point and I rarely do with acoustic electro - you would just be hearing a microphone listening to my particular amp - and all amps are different - it works just fine though, but is too heavy. The tuner is in the pre-amp, yes.
@@GotAUkulele you have of course way more experience than me, I've only played 2 ukes, 3 if you count my son's Spongebob soprano, but I find my mahogany Tanglewood has a nice sound with good sustain. I did have to have a set up done on it tho, intonation was out slightly, but now it sounds fantastic. Sustain for days. I want a Tenor next. My other uke is a Brunswick Baritone which has a big warm sound. Have you reveiwed Brunswick?
@@LarryShone Which is part of why my review position is a blessing and a curse. I've reviewed nearly 200 and played several hundred more. It means I have a LOT to compare them to and I hope that means the scores are fair. I'm not trying to destroy Tanglewood, but compared to the many others in their price category, they just dont stand up for me. Yep - theres a Brunswick on the review page - did rather well as it happens.
Charlotte Schilke I don’t ever give individual recommendations as it just gets too subjective. My two pieces of advice - first - spend as much as you can, not as little. Second - all those on this list with scores of 8 or above get my recommendation. All differ in prices, looks, sounds etc www.gotaukulele.com/p/ukulele-reviews.html?m=0
I don't ever give individual model recommendations - it's far too personal and subjective to the buyer - but can direct you to the full review list in price categories. Look at those highlighted bold and anything over 8 out of 10 is recommended in one way or another - higher scores the better www.gotaukulele.com/p/ukulele-reviews.html
GotAUkulele - Thanks for your reply. My baritone uke & guitars have truss rods that I have adjusted on occasion and I was just interested if this model had one. Cheers JT
jteem6 guitars need them due to the tension of steel strings. Ukuleles have nowhere near the tension. The worlds greatest uke makers like Kamaka don’t put truss rods in.
This review was absolutely amazing and perfect, really knew what you were talking about and loved how in depth it was. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
I’ve been dying for a review! Thankfully this doesn’t disappoint and I love the look of the figured walnut veneer.
Thanks!
That's exactly the review I was looking for. Thank you!!
My pleasure!
Good review, Barry! Thanks for introducing a brand I have never heard of!
Thanks Chuck!

I know exactly what you are getting at

You did the right thing

Very much so - this is one of the better ones of theirs I looked at -an earlier one was dreadful
They are hit and miss however the crossroads folk auto accoustic is fantastic guitar
Yay! A new review! I love your channel ☺️ 🎸
Thank you! you'll be pleased to know that I should have reviews coming every week now until at least the middle of April!
GotAUkulele Awesome! I was wondering, have you any Eddy Finn Uke reviews? I saw a couple of their unique shaped ukuleles and wondered how they perform.
I haven't done one so far - but do have one coming in a couple of weeks!
Another great review,,,,,thx, Barry!
Thank you!

yes it's made in China
I am trying to find a review for the Tanglewood twt22. An electroacoustic tenor, but no luck so far.
Sorry - never seen one myself
Great review 😀
Thank you!

I agree with you - not the best
I have a Tanglewood Discovery series guitar, its brill. Perfect set up out of the box.
BTW, looks like you got a new Mic?...Looks like a Rode's....nice!
Same as always - it just ended in shot - yes - it's a Rode NT1
Wish you had plugged it in Barry? Is the tuner a pre amp too?

Muy bueno ukelele e adquirido uno lo aconsejo saludos
Great review, can you tell me what the allen key included with the ukulele is for please
I have absolutely no idea. Mine didn’t! Is there a truss rod in the neck?
I have one of their Tribal Spirit concert ukes, good sound
Played a few of theirs, but not all. Sadly not yet found one I really liked

Judging by the other comments I am the only one who flunked the Rorschach test hidden at 1:40 -- how embarrassing :(
ha ha!
Looking for my first uke can you help?

what mic is this?
Protegit what mic?
Can anyone confirm it this model has a truss rod? Cheers JT

Thanks so much!
anyone worked out how to change the battery in this uke😂🥺
Hatch marked with a T on the control panel - button batteries I believe.
It's got that banjo, George Formby vibe/sound...well, to my ears anyway. Not for me TBH.
Nor me!
you should make a video on how to play those two tracks that you always play
You mean like.. ua-cam.com/video/rkk9CXQ1AZU/v-deo.html
I apologize for not thoroughly searcing before asking. Thanks!
