They even stole your pic as a thumbnail. Unbelievable. But if you look, the channel name is different to yours, and the channel has no content. Also the video is not a giveaway. Thanks for letting everyone know. I reported it right away.
I use a $2 vertical swivel paper towel holder from Daiso and it does the job. Can’t see myself spending $25 - that’s the cost of a skein of fingering weight. Thanks for testing it out for us^^
As soon as I saw it I thought "oh, a paper towel holder." A thin dowel or chopstick through the cake that's then stuck through two sides of a basket also works.
Do you cake the yarn before you do this? I don’t have a yarn winder but was wondering if the paper towel holder works with skeins from the store ‘as is’ or not.
@@kathyd7506 I don’t have a winder either so I use the skein as it is. Of course this means I can’t use the center pull so I’ll have to knit or crochet from the outer strand but that’s not a big deal. Whenever I want to use a center pull, I put the whole skein in a small plastic bag and allow a little opening on one side at the top for the yarn to move freely through. This way even if the skein drops it doesn’t get dirty or unravel too much (for lace weight yarn or those that unravel too easily). If you’re working with two or more strands at the same time the best option is to put them in an organizing tray/caddy with the vents on the side so you can thread as many skeins through the individual gaps. That way you can work with as many as 7 or more colors at a time without getting tangled. ^^
I’m not sure. I think it’s cool and it visibly does a good job, but I think I’d be just as happy with a small skein/cake/donut in a yarn bowl. I love that I can use a yarn bowl on my desk, coffee table, bed, couch, wherever, and I just don’t see that happening with the yarn Jeanie.
I don't see how this would take up any more space than a yarn bowl... I'd love to use skiens w/o having to wind a ball to use from outside which you have to do with bowls🙂
This is like yarn through butter! I had my guy make something similar, and you wouldn’t believe how it feels. It’s like the yarn is floating, without any pulling or drag of any kind.
I love my Wool Jeanie. No winding, no yarn vomit, no searching for a center pull, no tugging at an outter pull. I got it from Amazon for 20 dollars. I love the portability of the Jeanie. I can leave my gifted, expensive yarn bowl at home now.
I bought one several months ago and use it everyday. Love it. I recommend get the extra shaft too. Great for when using more than one yarn color in project. Can't wait to see if you like it.
Thank you for sticking to your UA-cam schedule even when you're not feeling well. Hope you feel better. What I love about all of your reviews is that you clearly explain the pros and cons. I can see how this item would be helpful to people, but I crochet in public and knit in public too much. I once brought a ceramic yarn bowl with me to a SnB, and that was pain enough (I crocheted myself some yarn bowls since for travel).
I watched your video shortly before I decided to put in an order for one of these. It just came today. I am totally delighted with mine! I do notice that sometimes the spindle will start to spin a little too fast. I am just using prewound cakes of yarn. I wanted to share how I slowed down the runaway spin. I have some small plastic coated clips that I purchased at the Dollar Tree. I clipped one to the top of the metal stem above the spindle. I fed my yarn (worsted) through the opening in the inside back of the clip. This does not prevent the free flow of the yarn. It just slows the unraveling speed while you are using it. I wish I could show you a photo of how I rigged mine up, but this sure works for me. 🤗💗
I got one of these a few weeks ago. BEST THING EVER. I always center pull skeins and cakes and thought I was happy... nope nope nope. I haven't stopped using it since I got it. I only regret waiting so long to order it. I got a 2nd one and I plan on getting a bunch of spare spools for color-work. It's a must try!
A friend gifted me one of these after I saw a video online. I’m absolutely in love with it (but you are right, colors would be nice). Being confined in a hospital having to have staff rescue my yarn every time it fell off the bed was embarrassing. With the wool Jeanie it stays put on my tray table and makes crocheting so much more relaxing.
Haha, this was designed & is manufactured fairly locally to me in the UK. If you're not getting a D&S Components one, then it's a knock off. Such a simple but genius solution. They sold like hot cakes at the yarn shop I worked at 😊
Great review, Toni! I would try it but as it is plastic, I wouldn't buy it as it doesn't seem substantial enough to not break. My biggest concern was that the yarn would be too heavy to hold large cakes/skeins, not necessarily in a yardage perspective but in the chunky, bulky sense. Overall, I wouldn't have one because of space. The last thing I have is room to place another gadget, especially when I'm perfectly happy with pulling my yarn as needed when it's sitting in my yarn bowl (aka, one of mom's serving bowls, lol). Hope you feel better soon!
I've had two of them for, um... 7? years. Had to get them shipped from the UK because there were no US sources at all. I needed two because I was doing a lot of stranded knitting at the time. Neither of mine are broken at all--they both look brand new. They are advertised as being able to hold 200 g but I've put 300 g on them without any problems. At least in my experience, placement is not all that fussy. Depending on where I am working, I've placed it well above my working level to well below and it makes no difference at all. I've never had the spindle fly off the stand, either. If the spindle starts rotating too fast, the yarn just starts passing under the spindle (you could see it doing so in Toni's video), no big deal.
I just want to tell you that I LOVE your energy and informative and thoughtful videos. Thank you for helping me discover the world of crochet and your tutorial videos. You are such a beautiful human and God’s light truly shines in you. Hugs
*FOR LEFT-HANDERS* - this is a must have! I find that I can more easily use just about any yarn now without it twisting up in the wrong direction. And for $12 I bought extra spindles for when I have a couple of projects going at the same time. I am careful not to leave it connected magnetically all the time as directed. Also, this thing has fallen off the table more times than I can count and it doesn't break. Now is it perfect??? Of course not. But for 90% of my projects - It's always being used! Much love to TL for turning me onto this clever device.
I'm a complete gadget hound! I wound up my skein of yarn using a winder and just placed the cake on the Wool Jeanie. I LOVE it. It's really not the same as pulling the yarn from a dowel or paper towel holder (which I tried). This effortlessly turns with the help of the magnetic tip and you don't have to think about pulling or untangling yarn. You can keep knitting until the yarn is gone or you've tired yourself out. I wanted to mention that the Jeanie recommends using a skein or ball up to 200g but the yarn I'm currently using is a 225g skein and it's no problem at all. I also like that you can "park" the ball to the base when you put it away or one of your cats discovers how nicely it goes round and round.
I bought a fake in Aliexpress and is a must for me works fantastic!!! I have tried bowls wooden ones etc. nothing but a waste of money and patience, but this is the best gadget I have ever bought smooth, with no tension just easy to put the yarn in a store wound or cake magnet it up and BOOM!!! no issues 🙌🧡🧡🧡🧡
Thank you Toni for your channel. You are the first UA-camr That I've come across that has correctly called the new numbering system for yarn sizes, "Categories". Thank you for your depth of knowledge and your pleasant manner. I know I wouldn't purchase this as it is made of plastic and metal. Plastics take from 300 to 800 years to bio-degrade into micro particle which are still harmful to wildlife. Wooden ones, made from at least the 40's onward are just as effective and are eco-conscious. At $25 there is someone who is making an enormous profit. More power to them if people buy the product. At $25 it is about $20 above my budget. Over all, a well done and honest review. Thank you and Brava!
Thanks! I love your reviews and projects. Your explanation of join as you go granny squares was the first one that made sense to me. Keep up the great work. ❤️
I’d love a cosy warm sweater or beautiful cushy slippers, with a matching blanket. Your room is beautiful, well organized and airy. Drunken granny blanket is big enough for the cushy slippers. Perfect. Looking forward to the tutorial on the granny square.
Mine just arrived yesterday and I am so in love! My only regret is that I didn’t order a second needle for another color - honestly it’s not that hard to just swap the yarn out but for frequent color changes it would be nice so I’ll probably order one when they’re back in stock. I’ve tried mine both at my desk and on the couch. It worked well with both but I am not as close to it on the couch and that does seem to work better in that I don’t get any of the wild spinning I got a couple of times at my desk. Some of that might’ve just been me readjusting to not needing to pull my yarn free. I have some chronic pain issues and I think this will help me be able to crochet longer before I need a break that I’m not having that extra pulling motion needed.
I thought she mentioned at the beginning of the video, that she had a wooden one, but it got tangled in some spots. Or was I just hearing things 🤷♂️😂?
Thank you for your review. Honest and thorough as usually. As whether I would buy or not...I say not. I often travel with my projects and there isnt always a place to set the Wool Jeanie as well as needing a flat surface to use it when at home. Couch & bed crocheting is where I often find myself. Keep the reviews coming.
Hi Miss Toni. Yes, I will absolutely try this product! I have hand issues, which can make it difficult for me to keep proper tension on my yarn. It's getting better as I go along, but I think this would totally help me with that. Thank you for sharing your review. Get well soon!
I think this could absolutely help. There's a lot of potential tension that comes from yarn feeding from the ball, and this manages that quite well. Hope you like it!
I almost bought one the other day off of the big A it was 52.80. I just thought that was crazy. I know its a small business. Thanks for the direct link. Now I know SB will receive the profits. I am so glad I pateintly waited & my blessing came around to me. I believe if used repeatedly it would prevent that extra pull we do when crocheting & knitting that has developed as part of our stlye. I am so glad you reviewed this.
I got one of these a few weeks ago and I'm obsessed with it. I keep waiting for the awesomeness to wear off and for it to become another dust gatherer, but that's not happening any time soon. The other day I had three separate cakes on it for color changes and it held up fine, it must have a super strong magnet! Love not having to find the center or tug my yarn constantly.
Oh wow, that's right. This is unwinding from the outside of the skein. Not having to deal w yarn barfbuntangling is worth $25 itself! Thanks for the video and the idea.
This can be a really useful product for people with arthritis who fear losing their crafting skills. Anectodal, but in the case of my mum, absolutely true. Thank you.
I plan on buying one when I get the funds. I've been knitting and crocheting for over 50 years and wish this was available from the start. Thanks for the review. 😊
I LOVE this gadget! What a difference it makes with feeding my yarn while I'm crocheting/knitting. No more tugging or getting stuck! Those bowls and cheapy towel holders just don't hold a candle to this!!
Just started using my Wool Jeanie this past weekend and L.O.V.E. it! I was getting really frustrated before having to pull lengths of yarn, which interrupted the flow of my work. With Wool Jeanie, that is no longer an issue!
I used this video as a guide to put mine together and found the disc the yarn sits on should be cone side up. now that I've turned it around it definitely makes a difference. 😁
I'm in the UK and have ordered one whilst watching your video. Thank you for demonstrating it, that was really useful. Just have to wait impatiently for 5 days for delivery. 😊
I watched Alisha from Littlejohn Yarn review this product today because she knew you reviewed it. She pulled yarn from it that was far too heavy according to the recommendations, and it worked! So, I wanted to watch your review too, and I'm convinced that I need a Yarn Jeanie in my life. Thanks to both you and Alisha for introducing me to this one. I found it on Amazon for $50 and thought NO WAY! So I'm glad I saw your video. I'll be heading directly to the Yarn Jeanie site. Thanks Toni!
You're so right! Which gives me a lot of hope in using this. My kitties get into my yarn every now and then, so I'm hoping to use this instead of putting my yarn on the floor.
Thank you so much for sharing this review on this genie product. It’s what I have been wanting to find for doing projects easier with the yarn and tension while crocheting. This looks like something that I would definitely purchase and try using. I so appreciate your channel sharing the way you do. It totally helps me out a lot with your honesty on the yarns and tools you view on your channel. I look forward to your new posts and really enjoyed the academy as well. Blessings out to you and your amazing crocheting channel. ❤
I have seen it before am yes I would try the Jennie as soon as I can afford it. It would be perfect for me . Thank you so very much for trying it out and giving your honest opinion.
I love your reviews, Toni! You've been so helpful as I've been dipping my toes into crochet 🙂. I've been a knitter for years, and one thing I noticed right away about the design of this spindle is the way it swings like a pendulum. If you knit continental, it probably wouldn't be a big deal, but as a "thrower," that swing would have this gadget back in the box in about five minutes for me lol. I wonder if there's a similar difference in crochet styles among different people -- a "yarn forward" vs. a "hook forward" approach, so to speak?
Hi I would like to try that. I've been crocheting for 7 years and I always have problems with my yarn falling on the floor and the strings of yarn would get caught in my wheelchair ♿️ . It's so frustrating at times. But I'm definitely going to get a yarn Genie. Thanks for sharing 🥰💞
I find that working from the center end of the yarn helps to stop the yarn from jumping around as well. You keep the wrap of the skein on and just pull out the end in the middle part and then it unwraps as you go as well.
Thanks for the review, Toni. I hadn't heard of this tool, but appreciated your review. After watching, I don't think I would purchase. First, not very attractive. Second, I would lose one of those pieces for sure. I have a wooden spindle that I use and LOVE. It's similar in design to the one you showed in the video and it works great...and it doesn't separate...so I don't worry about losing it. As always -- great content. I really appreciate you and all you share.
I purchased one of these a number of years ago for a friend who hates pulling yarn from the center of a ball (hates it with the fiery passion of 7 burning suns, ha!)....and he LOVES it! :-)
I can see the yarn Jeanie in my work room but when I have small amounts of yarn or cakes I like my yarn bowl. That being said, yes I would try this product. Thank you for sharing!🤗☕💐🌼🌸💮🌹🌺 !
I got one based on your excellent review and I love it. It’s sturdy and holds a lot of weight. Easy to assemble using your video or the Crochet Crowd video ( I saw that assembly video first). I think I’ll get a lot of use out of this.
I love the Wool Genie. I currently have one on my craft table and have probably purchased about 8 of them. When I do yarn swaps, I love including one in my swap box.
THANK YOU so much for reviewing this. i have been wrestling over whether i should get one or more yarn bowls and every one of them seems wrong somehow. not sure this is perfect, but your impressions are very helpful. thanks again!
I actually bought a yarn winder, an adhesive toilet paper holder and about 10 plumbing pipes with small flanges. We cut the flanges to match the winder's spindle notches. The toilet paper holder is put on the wall vertically where I crochet (with the spindle facing upward). I tape the beginning end to the pipes and then wind the yarn onto them so they are in cake shape. I can then just swap out the pipes on the tp holder (with the flange at the top). It's easy, it's fast and no tangling.
Hello from Foymount Ontario CANADA. Thanks for the wonderful review. Yes I would certainly try the wool genie. I'm always in front of my 'puter' and having my wool in front of me instead of on the floor impresses me. Now I have to go find your video of wool winders. I love how you turned your skein into a cake! ~ hugs a lot ~ although after reading a few comments below, a $2 vertical swivel paper towel holder might be cheaper and then I can afford the wool winder!
@@marthakarschner3590 That message smells of a scam. I don't remember hearing anything about a giveaway from Toni and it is not coming from her actual UA-cam account. Many people have gotten that message as a repsonse to their comments.
That is a cool gadget. I can imagine a cat seeing this and playing with it while you crocheting! LOL I'm not much of crocheter but thanks for the wonderful review on this!
I'm pretty content with my yarn bowl, but I'm totally with you on making it more aesthetically pleasing. I would definitely want one if it was wooden or a pretty resin maybe to match my Furls hooks. I know that would have to be more expensive, but I think people would pay a price similar to a high end hook or swift. Maybe they should partner.... I think so!
Actually yes, I would try this product. I immediately thought about how useful it would be to stack 2 different colors/types of yarn (like mohair & something). I think this could work greatly
Thank you for reviewing the Wool Jeanie. To answer your question as to whether I plan to purchase one for myself or as a gift? No, definitely not. For my very limited budget on Social Security, especially with the prices of everything skyrocketing beyond reason, it’s a high-priced frivolity I don’t need.
I see that every now and then out of habit you give your yarn a bit of a yank with your left hand. Don't do that because the whole concept is just to knit or crochet without pulling! Always love your reveiws!! I'm hoping to get one fir my birthday🎂
Great review. You keep a good pace and are interested in this item. Love mine. I hoped to use it for my csm, but no go. The backspin screws with the tension. For handknitting it is wonderful. My son made me a bunch of spindles and I glued metal balls to the top for extra spindles. Works great! Note: you can get the thingverse 3d pattern for free and print your own. Or use cardboard cones and glue a metal marble. I used mine to hold a ball of new yarn and wound it into a cake. That sucker spins like a dervis. I did have to start slow and speed up or it reverses and causes the problems you are getting.
I have had one of these for a few years. It does work and well for the right kind of work. Crochet and knitting works however a knitting machine Addi or Sentro etc does not work so well. Best to cake the yarn first. Sometimes it pulls faster than I need but it does not pull too much unless you crochet too fast. It does make a difference on the tension as it does not stop the yarn going to your hook. It is better than having a ball of yarn in a bowl. It also encourages making your use of tension by yourself. So many crocheters on you tube do not use tension or the hooks correct.stitch size.
How funny… I’m stitching the exact same stitch of your blanket while watching this video (much slower, obviously). Thanks for the review! I’m interested.
Great review. I got a yarn holder off of eBay about 3 months ago works great for 19.00. It takes small or large cakes/skeins. I found that if you crochet or pull at a very fast pace, the yarn will tug/catch at the bottom. But I can deal with that. It beats having to continually tug on my skein from a project box or bowl. Thank you for the review. :)
Great review! Not for everyone, for sure. I'm a center pull kinda guy. Wind up a cake, throw a bit of netting around it, and you have a perfect setup. One concern I had was the number of pieces you had to put together. Too many points of failure for me and MG anxiety. A yarn bowl would be better to hold my cake. Also, subbed! Definitely going to be supporting another crafty channel!
I have three of these and I love them, especially if you are using more than one colour. Would definately recommend. This is a lovely small business in the UK with great customer services. I got mine from Amazon. I even bought one for my fellow crafter.
I saw this contraption on Instagram and I thought it was a curious notion. I'm a fan of gadgets with magnets 😁 Thanks for the review. I would definitely try it.
Thank you, Toni, for another great product review. Since you asked, no, I probably wouldn’t try this product, although I’m happy to know it exists. I work only in Tunisian crochet and do a lot of color work, sometimes using 4-5 different colors. This product would be impractical for me.

It takes up a lot of space for what it is. You can get a wood yarn spindle for the same price, to do the same thing without all the plastic,
I thought same but since buying my wool jennie belive me it's far superiour to the spindle, I was shocked 😅
@@kirstykin8260 I absolutely agree! It is waaay better than a wood spindle.
I love mine so much I bought a second one. I have a wooden one and I definitely prefer the Wool
Jeannie.
I love it! No tangles and pulls gently at my pace!❤
Very cool - love the fact that you show all the new gadgets - it keeps me excited about staying busy and engaged! Thanks for this!
When I first saw the Yarn Genie, my reaction was Cat Toy!
Me too!😂😻🇬🇧
This yarn holder is great!! It even holds the large balls of yarn. I knit with stopping to unwind the yarn!! It is worth every dime spent!!
I have been using mine for about 2 years now, and it’s the only way I can get decent tension, both knitting and crochet.
Toni, you are such a bright star for me!
Nothing beats center pull , there there wool genie, there there 🤗🤗
I got one of these a few weeks ago and I'm obsessed with it. I keep waiting for the awesomeness to wear off and for it to become another dust gatherer, but that's not happening any time soon. The other day I had three separate cakes on it for color changes and it held up fine, it must have a super strong magnet! Love not having to find the center or tug my yarn constantly.
I was thinking the very same thing!
Yes it does hold 3 cakes of yarn. Had mine for 4 months and use it every day.
Thanks for the video - very good demonstration - because of my crochet "style", i'll be sticking to my yarn bowl(s)
I love corner to corner so fast and beautiful!
I would definitely purchase one or put it on my Christmas list for family and friends. Thank you Toni for the great review.
I think it would be good for Thanksgiving. Don't you think so?
Just finish watching your video and yes I'm going to try this new gadget!!!! Thank you for reviewing for this new gadget for us.
This would be great for crocheting outside! I could set it on our table and it would keep the yarn off the ground!
Well I just placed an order for one of these a few days ago so I’m glad to hear you like it.
After trying a spindle and not liking it at all, I decided to try the Wool Genie, and I'm totally addicted. It works perfectly, exactly as advertised.
Hmm….The Wool Jeanie….very tempting. 😁
Thanks for the video and feel better soon!
I used this video as a guide to put mine together and found the disc the yarn sits on should be cone side up. now that I've turned it around it definitely makes a difference. 😁
Love ❤️ the Wool Jeanie
I find that I place the Jeanie a little higher than my crocheting it works super great. 😊Thank You for the review.
I'm in the UK and have ordered one whilst watching your video. Thank you for demonstrating it, that was really useful. Just have to wait impatiently for 5 days for delivery. 😊
I love the way you talk to us. You grab me and I'm really catching myself nodding with you. Love all you do. Yes love the genie
The presenter is very artistic and composed in her delivery . Hi Malea
I agree with you! I would love to see that in pink, purple, and /or grey! The white is just kind of blah!
I’ve had my Jeanie for quite a while & I have only good things to say about it. I’ve not had any problems with it 👏👏❤️❤️🇬🇧
I think it’s the bomb! The original wool Jeanie is better than the Amazon cheap knock offs . I have both.❤
I like that when you pulled and the yarn went nuts, nothing got caught or tangled.
You're so right! Which gives me a lot of hope in using this. My kitties get into my yarn every now and then, so I'm hoping to use this instead of putting my yarn on the floor.
Thank You for this review!!! I will TOTALLY buy this! And I would love it if it was in purple! LOL
How do I know that it’s really Tony?
@@pmcclammy I emailed Toni to make her aware of this and she said that she has blocked this user.
@@ericcub78 she blocked me or the other user?
@@pmcclammy the scammer saying that people won a giveaway. There is no giveaway.
I have had my wool jeanie for a few years now. OMG it is amazing for the smaller skeins of yarn. works so amazing
Thank you for making this video! I don’t think the Wool Genie would work for my particular crochet style, but watching it function was so helpful.
Not cool to spam her channel. Reported.
that blanket is gorgeous! Thanks for your review.
I am so buying this! Saw it on Instagram and couldn't find out what it was called. Thank you for the review! Feel better ❤️
Your craft room is so gorgeous and organized!
Oh, yes. I noticed that first thing.
I have one of these, it's absolutely brilliant! Saves my poor arthritis shoulders trying to unwind yarn from the ball!
Try putting your yarn in a regular shopping plastic bag. No friction, keeps it in one place
I bought one, and I love it! I use it all the time.
I purchased one of these a number of years ago for a friend who hates pulling yarn from the center of a ball (hates it with the fiery passion of 7 burning suns, ha!)....and he LOVES it! :-)
I have just found your channel and am really enjoying it. You are such a treat.
Was waiting to hear a review from someone like you whom I trust to say it's this or it's that. So thank you, looks like I'll be picking one up.
Será que Você gostaria de vender algum ?
@@andressatintoridasilva4160 I find the cheapest place to purchase them from is The Wool Warehouse. The company is out in the UK.
THANK YOU so much for reviewing this. i have been wrestling over whether i should get one or more yarn bowls and every one of them seems wrong somehow. not sure this is perfect, but your impressions are very helpful. thanks again!
Just wanted to say, I love your channel, you are awesome and your projects are fantastic!!
Yes I believe I would try this Wool Jeanie. I will save my pennies to by one. Thanks Toni👍🏽
I absolutely LOVE my Jeannie! Best gadget I ever purchased! ❤️
I tried to text at the number you provided but it came back saying it wasn't a legitimate number. 😔
I like the idea of it, it makes me want to diy one myself out of wood and magnets which I already have in my garage
I think so!
Love your channel Toni! Thanks for the product review.
Loved the vid, will def have to add the wool Jeanie to the list of tool's I must buy.
❤you have made my crochet dreams come true. I’m learning how to crochet!!!
Yayyyy! I love hearing that. Keep it up 🙌
I see that every now and then out of habit you give your yarn a bit of a yank with your left hand. Don't do that because the whole concept is just to knit or crochet without pulling! Always love your reveiws!! I'm hoping to get one fir my birthday🎂
Great review, Toni! Hope you are feeling much better soon.
Thanks, Toni, this was an informative video. I think I will wait to hear more from you about this product before buying.
New to your channel. I am totally gonna try this tool.
Thanks for the review. I didn’t know I needed this until I came across your video.
This makes total sense. A wool jeanie would just make that many colors *less* manageable. Great perspective.
I have one base as well as 5 spindles. I absolutely love mine, and finally can knit and crochet with a decent tension.
