So I'm curious about this... do you need that SIM on a "phone plan" that you pay for monthly? I have equipment that does automatic uplaods of data, and I don't THINK anyone pays a monthly fee for it.

Don't use 5V to power Sim800l, It's recommended to use 3.7 to 4.2V, just add any 1V dropout diode between 5V and sim800's VCC.
What diode is 1v?
@@quickfixengineeringltd8035 1N4001 or 1N4007 should work.
2g doesn't work in the USA.
