It’s so tragic that she wasn’t able to experience love until she had a child of her own. So glad she rose above such harsh beginnings and beat the cycle.
What is crazy about that, is that a child needs a mother, it doesn't necessarily love its mother when it is born. She needed something to love, something to care about.
It's shows no matter how hard/harsh or brutalized your beginnings are on you there is no excuse...it can be done. As she said...It aint how you start but how you finish.
?????? To the viewer who said the show represents what it is to be black: HUH? SMH. I'm black. And I cannot relate to Ms. Pat's life experiences. Stop equating terrible childhoods and life experiences with being black!!!! Race has absolutely nothing to do with it!!
Self-hate in the Black community is more systematic than it is personal. For those with a platform, we must say that. There is a reason why Ms. Pat's mom hated herself and showed anti-blackness. It's the same reason why many of us have parents who are anti-black and self-hate themselves because we've been taught to.
She is so PRECIOUS! I know some people might cringe at her mentioning her drug dealing, but honestly that may be the exact demographic who needs hope to move forward. I love how childlike her authenticity is and she is like a walking ball of sunshine, hugs, and love!❤
Love seeing a grown black woman succeed! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 You went through a lot Ms Pat, but you persevered! So true about what goes on in some black families, my father was mean and abusive verbally and physically. I was angry for a long time with both him & my mother for allowing him to use me as a scapegoat and she never protected me. So I understand your pain, in my younger adulthood in my 30’s I had a few long talks with both my parents (they are divorced). I talked about the way I was mistreated as a child & teen ect What I learned was they were clueless at first that it was wrong, as they truly felt like it was “normal behavior “ , because that’s how they were brought up. They didn’t have their own parents say I love you or show affection. In my fathers house my grandmother was the matriarch, even though my grandfather brought his paycheck to her every week she belittled and emasculated my grandfather in front of their 7 children and her siblings ( uncles & aunts) talked negatively about my grandfather to my father & his siblings. My grandmother had a mean & nasty father also, that my father & his brothers were around on weekends on his farm working. My grandfather became an alcoholic but he made sure his family was well taken care of, that’s why he gave her his paycheck to make sure he didn’t waste all the money on booze. He took out an “allowance “ for himself, but made sure his family never was hungry and always had a roof over his head. To this day his some of his children are still ashamed of him. The man never missed a ball game, band or any event they participated in and was their number one fan cheering for them. He was very proud of all of his kids and grandchildren. I was lucky to live with my grandparents when I was an infant until I was over 2 years old. This poor parenting at It’s is generational behavior and someone in the family need to break that horrible cycle. I have learned to make sure I have boundaries with how I am treated by both parents. I am very outspoken so if I don’t like something they say I tell them. I don’t allow my father to bully me! He still does it my younger siblings. He is 81 years old, but I respectfully don’t tolerate mess and he will not use his age to expect me to give him a pass. I help both my parents when I am able, learned a long time ago to forgive them (not forget), so I would have a healthier relationship with my husband and children. I have been married for 39 years! So Ms Pat God loves you and help you through your pain. I know those topics are still painful for you even though you turn it into comedy, but get help to one day forgive your mother because she also most likely lived through the same pain and rejection all her life. So sad, but I’m very proud of you for your Emmy nomination and being victorious! 👏🏾👏🏾🙌🏾🤗
I just said she doesn’t sound like my mother. So this is the story of some Black women. The Black experience in America isn’t the same. Like you said we not monolith.
@@annzeeg4217 Well, we need more of the Clair Huxtables. Because I feel like they are under represented. And the Ms. Pats are in every featured role for a black woman.
Love it!! I cannot wait for season three either!! She is so real, and funny and wild, and the best comedy to hit TV in a long time! Such a raw show, but the topics touched are so relevent and timeless, and needed. No fairytale narratives or predictable endings, just truth and life at it's worst and best. Awesome show!!!
I literally tell everybody I know to watch the ms.pat show! It's really more than a show! I've laughed, cried, reflected, and learned some things from this show! Can't wait for season 3 and all that is to come,🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

This interview sheds a more complete light on Pat. I learned facts that were shocking, saddening, and maddening. True survivor. Her apex has not been reached.
I am a Jamaican 🇯🇲 who grew up seeing my mother and grandmother with an afro ❤️ and they always told me am beautiful ❤️ however when I went to high school peer pressure made me relax my hair behind my mom's back and when I tell you she beat my ass 😂😂
I’m hoping season 3 gives us more episodes this show is amazing!! I laugh, I cry, I get mad… and fall in love more each episode! I love how she’s shaking things up in Hollywood!
This is exactly why I tell my son everyday that he is handsome and that he is loved!!!!! So manyyyyy times I didn’t feel like my mom loved or liked me but I recently heard my mother’s story how she was abused when she was growing up and that explained a lot of the hurt and trauma she was passing on to her kids! It is so true hurt people hurt people! I die I want my son to be able to say I had a great mother that loved me and never mistreated me!!!
Preparing our kid's for the Real World, shouldn't stop a parent from showing their kid's Love. When you show your kid's Love, then they can love themselves and show others' love. Also, they can have some self esteem, as well.
I freakin love the Ms. Pat Show!!!! I watched it by myself first. Then I watched it with my 10 yr old son... We love the fact that we relate ... Not to mention my son has a mother that uses curse words to emphasize a point and anything can/will come out of her mouth... 🤷🏾♀️ Funny story.. My son attempted to watch the Ms. Pat show on regular BET and declined once he realized it was edited for tv... That shit cracked me up 😆🤣😂🤣 Good thing is he doesn't have a potty mouth himself, BUT has an appreciation for the art of "cussin" 🤣😆😂😆

I wish her and the entire cast great success. Man it broke my heart to hear her talk about history. I felt her deep when she said when you feel like the world is against you and then you come home and your home is against you. I was blessed to have a loving mother and father, all the things I had to endure in life, I knew when I came home it was my safe space and I would be surrounded with love. I couldn’t imagine not having that. That had to be a horrible feeling to not be able to seek solace in your own mom. Like you have nowhere to turn. That had to be so painful. My heart breaks for her. I wish her many blessings

I watched her special two days ago and that's the only thing I knew about her. She reminds me of one of my favorite women who helped my life when I was struggling. She has a heart of Gold and God loves her. I'm so grateful that I found out about her. I'm working through my mother issues right now specifically, I'm so thankful that I found her at this time. Her story is absolutely powerful.
I remember first watching this show and I came on it by accident and I heard her talking real on a network show, she is representing real life and I love it
Her show is incredible. i was surprised at the way it tackled current issues so intelligently and comedically because of how apparently elusive that is for chapelle considering his stature. The show is always entertaining.
Happy for her but let's not forget that her reality is not EVERY Black womens reality!! Not all black mothers were her mother! Careful of only having one lense through which to view an entire race!
Everyone has a story that deserves to be heard about and seen. Ms. Pat tells a lot of women's stories through her own life and her show.
