I flew Southern Airways Express a few yrs ago from PIT into Dulles (IAD) through Hagerstown, MD. Aside from the fact that being an AVGeek I LOVED the experience of flying at only 7,500ft, the services offered by the airline were great. Priority pass as you indicated, quick flight, cheap (around $65 one way), & the chance to experience flying in a somewhat different, more personal way. Their employees were friendly & it was a great trip...definitely recommend them. Enjoyed the vid as always.
Couldn't agree more! As I said in the video, if it wasn't for the delay, would've been more enjoyable. But Southern can't control fog and I enjoyed what they had to offer. Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it!
@@thejazzguy13 absolutely. Funny story, my Dad actually booked the flight for me & accidently used my brothers middle name instead of mine, which caused absolute chaos with TSA. They required me to go back to the ticket counter to have the ticket reissued with MY middle name. Long story short, the lone desk agent went above & beyond to get it done. Also, since TSA knew about the discrepancy, they subjected me to the extra security check, going through my entire bag, pat down, X-ray, EVERYTHING. In the end, Southern STILL held the flight for at least an extra 30min just for me. I'd bet the farm that none of the major carriers would've gone to that level to get the problem resolved AND hold the flight...so anyone reading this, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND SOUTHERN AURWAYS!!
Thanks. That was amazing and I enjoyed the flight! I must add that I had some trepidation when I saw the plane’s relatively small size, but it got you there in one piece. Cheers, Colin.
Excellent video a few days ago I started to follow and I really liked your channel especially about regional travel in small planes the views are fabulous greetings from Córdoba Argentina
I had a similar experience flying Boutique Air to BWI, they took over the gates (and have since left). Thankfully, no fog delayed my journey from BOS (via MSS). I do regret buying a large coffee at Logan, since I found myself wearing some of it during takeoff.
I’m an ATC at BWI and this was a very cool video to watch. As a controller I don’t get the perspective of the passenger from the terminal. It’s a blind spot for us. All I see is southern airways taxiing in and out of the gate. Departing and landing. I really enjoyed seeing things from the ground. Very nice video!! Thanks!
@William Hudgins Hey thanks for the offer! I might have to take you up on that. I got your number so if I'm free I'll definitely give ya a shout, possibly early May before I leave Baltimore for multiple months :)
Since this trip you have been to Alaska so you know that many Alaskans travel this way and it is very exciting to fly on small aircraft. I have had the opportunity to travel on small planes like this one as well as amphibian aircraft. Flying into Wrangell and Petersburg required you to land in the ocean and taxi up on a ramp to the terminal! It was rather exciting!
I’ve flown to Baltimore but never Morgantown. My sister went to WVU in the 90s, and I’ve been through there as recently as 2017. I think the smallest plane I’ve been on was called a Shorts 300, a school bus with wings!
I was wondering why there were 5 C-17’s at Eastern WV Regional Airport (you REALLY should have pointed this out): “The 167 AW is an Air Mobility Command (AMC)-gained unit which began operating the Boeing C-17 Globemaster III aircraft in January 2015”
Many years ago, I used to fly USAir Beech 99 from Pittsburgh to Morgantown and return. My brother had a house at Cheat Lake on a golf course which I think I saw on the approach.
There's a really good Mediterranean restaurant at the Morgantown Airport terminal... If you had gone just behind the seating area (instead of panning to the security check). Really, really good.
I miss flying on Southern Airways Express. My dad used to be a pilot for them in the Caravan and I got to fly for free. I wish I could have gotten a few videos from then but I didn’t think about it since I didn’t have a UA-cam channel.
thejazzguy13 Aviation after Southern he flew for Onejet and they went out of business so now he is a flight instructor and is trying to get a job with the FAA. He flew a Embraer-135/144 for Onejet.
Logan Donnelly he looked into them and it didn’t sound appealing since he would be gone way too much. The planes Onejet flew like the EMB-135/145 are now owned by Contour. Onejets owner owed too much money
That would be fun to fly in. I used to go flying with my grandparents in Panama City, Florida. They owned a seaplane business and my grandfather was the pilot. They sold the business in 2011 because he had a heart attack and the doctor said he couldn't fly anymore and it was so sad for him. I was his co-pilot.
Sorry, First time going to be on this plane, What do you do with the luggage? do you give it to the pilots and they put it in the plane for you? and when you land, do you wait and grab it from them or you have to be inside and wait to get your luggage?
If you're checking in luggage, you just hand it in at check in and you don't have to worry about it till you arrive. Southern pretty much runs like any major airline...minus the jets :)
@@thejazzguy13 Oh okay, Cause im flying on 3 planes. "American Airlines Flight 4886, American Airlines Flight 2003 and Southern Airways Express Flight 408" And I watched videos to get the feel of the experience and im just not for sure if my luggage will follow all the way to the final destination which be southern airways express. cause i saw a person gave her luggage to the pilots on one of the videos and im like. do i have to do that? Sorry, I'm just new to this!
It will depend on if at check in at your original destination they tag your bag to your final destination. I know AA has a codeshare with Southern but you may want to ask the person at the counter. If you booked your flights altogether and not separate then I would think you should be fine. :)
This is cool! That being said, for residents of Morgantown that need to make a long haul, international, Star Alliance connection, there best bet would probably be to drive 45 minutes or less to Norteastern West Virginia Regional Airport in Bridgeport and take the United Express flights to Dulles or O’Hare!😸
Bridgeport is building a new terminal...maybe 40 minutes from Morgantown. United Express used to fly into Morgantown...they had Saab 360's going to Dulles at one time. Most people in North Central WV drive up to Pittsburgh to catch main-line flights. About 90 minutes.
Just a small fyi. No such thing as a “tarmac.” There are runways, taxiways, movement area, non-movement area, the ramp, the envelope, and the airport. From a pilot. Nice video though. Cheers!

Wow that’s awesome they did that for you! Yah and I highly doubt any other big carrier would do that
That's my favorite Aircraft that's fun to fly in and I'm looking forward to flying one soon
This is a real treat to actually watch the pilots the entire time compared to any other flight and plane.
We are about to take our 1st flight with this company, I had to try and find some good videos so I'll know what to expect. . Glad I found d this one

Very nice. Cool to see a Caravan flight trip report.
Thanks a lot mate!
@@thejazzguy13 The caravan is great on flight sim, gives you a chance to look around more. Many thanks! Ralph Olson
Thanks for letting us ride along
Southern is like flying in a private jet! Super dope!
But that is no jet! It’s a prop!
Thank you! Great video of a ride on the C208b !
It’s so crazy to see you making the approach in because I just flew it in today as a student pilot.
Excellent travelog... reminds me of flying into Cumberland MD on US Air Express
Almost 20 years ago Our son lived in Salisbury MD and we flew out of BWI Terminal D on the Dash 8s. It was just about that busy then too.
Great video. Great picture of those C-17s on the parking ramp.
I really enjoyed this video. Thanks for showing us this airline and what to expect.
Glad you enjoyed it! ;)
Fun looking flight.
17:22 - It's funny you say that. I did my entire PPL in a C-152, and I'm 6'2" -- I had to lead all my turns with my knees... LOL!
The terminal in WV, reminds me of that show "Wing's"
That's looks like so much fun. The pilots are so professional.
who is here in 2021

Love this video since I live in Hagerstown md and travel to Martinsburg wv and Morgantown quite often so seeing it from the air was badass
Glad you like it! I've been through all those towns and yah always better seeing them from above :)
Thise mountain tops with snow was in Preston County where I live, neighboring county to Mon County..

Nice landing! A question for the Caravan pilots: Was that reverse thrust I heard just before touchdown?
There's a really good Mediterranean restaurant at the Morgantown Airport terminal... If you had gone just behind the seating area (instead of panning to the security check). Really, really good.
Very good video! It seemed a calm and calm flight.
What is your video camera? It is much better than mine.
I’m glad that you have learned how to speak since this video. Not to mention you previously being merely a ghost.

A good way for pilots to build time and move up to the major airlines.
