EV Truck Showdown: Tesla Cybertruck vs F-150 Lightning vs Silverado EV v Rivian R1T Coast - Coast P2

- Welcome to the Electric Truck Showdown!! A race of all the Electric Trucks you can buy today, from Florida to California (Coast to Coast) to find out which Truck reigns supreme!
The four contenders are the Tesla Cybertruck, Chevy Silverado EV, Rivian R1T and Ford F-150 Lightning. All four trucks have their own pros and cons, and offer something unique which will help us all find out what qualities of a truck are the most important on a cross country race. Is it the largest battery possible? Is it the most efficient design? Or is it access to the best DC Fast Charging network in North America (Tesla Supercharger)?
This roughly 2,500 mile race kicks off at Jacksonville Beach and ends at Dog Beach in San Diego. Over the course of 2 days, these 4 trucks are put to their paces to find out which one will arrive first. Teams of 3-4 take the helm to navigate their respective EV Truck to the finish line, facing unknown challenges along the way.
Rules of the race are simple and fair. No one can exceed more than 10 MPH over the speed limit. In addition, the top speed no matter the speed limit is 85 MPH. That means that the race will require charging strategy and efficiency in travel, rather than driving as fast as possible.
Who will win? Who will lose? Whether you are Team Tesla, Team Chevy, Team Rivian or Team Ford, I sincerely hope you enjoy the excitement of this race and look forward to sharing the full experience from the perspective of the Silverado EV.
Part 2 details the the early mid section of the trip from to Louisiana. Make sure to subscribe to be notified when future videos go live.

18:37 In the future, rather than ending the session and unplugging the 12 V battery, this is how you can assess where the bottleneck in power is. This is an old Chevy Bolt EV trick where, if you want to know whether the car or the charger is limiting the charging speeds, turn on climate control to full blast. If the power draw from the station increases, the car is limiting its charging speed. If the power draw from the station stays the same, the car is pulling the max power the station is able to provide.
Those EA's are not down for "no reason," it's because they have a reputation to uphold. Being that bad is not easy, you know. It takes a lot of hard work.
Saw that Out of Spec Motoring’s 18-hour (ish lol) video went up, came right to Bearded Tesla guy for part 2.
yup not a fan of out of spec
@@josephrudys2615 OOS is still a draw for me though, like wanting to see Mayweather get beat, I want Kyle to lose these EV races. lol. He’s super knowledgeable and I’ve learned a lot watching OOS. They’ve also misinformed people without retraction , which is not cool. When the RWD Model Y was coming out they kept repeating that it had an LFP battery, and describing the benefits of that. To this day, people might purchase that car with an OOS referral and on an OOS recommendation, but they’d be misled. The RWD MY does not have an LFP battery. You shouldn’t regularly charge it to 100%. You can’t rely on OOS for reporting, it’s an entertainment channel and you can learn a lot, but fact-check beyond the channel. Especially if you’re spending 40+ grand on a car.
That charge limiting is a big issue. The Silverado has everything else right though: Big battery, fat charge curve.
Fix the charge limiting and this truck is miles above anything else on the market.
Makes me glad to own a Tesla
Thanks for part II
CT with extended battery would be fun with road trips
Thank you for this video 🎉❤
Did you try it at a supercharger with adaptor?
I want to see the new Truck. Bring it to Miller’s.
😎
13:34 I checked the history on that station, and it was actually 75% down, which is why you'd only get ~300 A out of one of the dispensers. It appears that you were using it the first week it opened, and EVgo has a tendency to power own their sites even when they aren't 100% ready to open. So it's pick your poison: Open as soon as possible, even if it means offering limited functionality, or wait a month to open with all four stalls operating at 100% (as they are today).
85 mph in a 65 zone?
Huh....
Seems like the truck with the smallest battery pack will win?!???
If that's the case then it shows that one should take in consideration the entire end-to-end EV ecosystem.
Charging, Vehicle, real-time charging network communication, chargers' reliability.
And shows that Tesla maintains the dominance in the best value for your buck.
Better than the OoS video, thanks.
Nice video but Yikes. $.48 per kWh at EA.
It gets worse!
This must be more of that Mary Barra leading and it mattering.
This would have been more interesting if a gas and a diesel truck were in the mix.
Turning on the AC/Fan at the end didn't do anything cause the pack temp wasn't to hot. xD
Yup, that big old battery pack on the Silverado ain't worth much if you can't get anywhere near 350 kW on the CCS charging infrastructure. My money's on the CT now.
close the damn door please
It’s a mute point when the product is hemorrhaging money. The more it sells, more GM loses money. Not sustainable if GM continues to put in 200 kWh batteries. Sorry, Silverado EV is not going to cut it.
Yeah. EA is really disappointing me a LOT! Just did a trip to NYC and back from NE Ohio in my Taycan. Not once did a 350kW EA charger give me more than 172kW. Most of the time, I did not even get much above 122kW. 😑
Very impressed that you won considering 1. Started late with only 90 %, 2 your team had 4 guys instead of the 3 on other teams, 3. open pickup bead(no cover), 4. EA not super reliable . I wonder if you put a wet rag on the charger handle/hose would it charge faster.
WAIT?!?! Did I just see a $65 charge for 70% 😳 Was that real?!?!
We’re going to eat everyone’s lunch!
Great video! Thanks.
If someone only watched this episode one would think that there are only a Cyber Truck and a Silverado. Not one mention of the Lightning! Bummer.
