@tuffy464 Hi. For Bone Carving, you should consider a flex-shaft carving motor and handpiece if you're looking to do it long-term but need only a Dremel if you're only looking to try it out. You also will need several bits, such as cone and drum shaped cutters, 80 grit sanding discs, etc. For finish work, you need 180 grit or finer hand sand paper. You will also need a bench grinder outfitted with the disc sander and 80 grit sandpaper and a buffing wheel and Jeweler's Rouge to polish.
@captfishead You can usually order those blades from a Jewelry supply place. They have a fine tooth size for fine cutting chores. There are also round diamond-coated blades and spiral toothed blades available, if you're going to be doing intricate cuts involving sharp changes in direction...
@zuridesign The carving motor and handpiece that Louie uses is expensive but you can also use a Dremel tool and get similar results. I would also get the flexible shaft, too, to keep the bone dust from burning out the motor as quickly.
@gooddogbill He's awesome! He's still fishing hard after all these years and I've had the pleasure to fish with him on several occasions. Finally, a fishing fanatic that meets or exceeds my own obsession!!
Thank you! Louie has a website where you can place orders-- and he carves many different species of marine life-- fish, turtles, sharks, whales, dolphins, etc. He can carve anything you request, too. Search for louiethefish to find his website...
That's not cheating-- the final shape comes purely from you, regardless of your choice of tools! Louie uses a higher-end carving motor because the bone dust will burn out a Dremel quickly. The carving handpiece, however, works just like a Dremel.
Nice work, but personally I can't stand the smell of bone when it is being sanded or worked with any abrasive tools... I don't know how he does it. Beautiful work tho.
wow thats an insane amount of detail...nice work
i loved the background music, it adds everything
