George Washington also post out on a lot of money because he WOULDN’T sell his slaves in his later life unless they agreed to it (which rarely happened). He actually made a point in his Will that slave children were to be taught to read and write, that elderly and disabled slaves would be taken care of by his Estate, that slaves would be able to find fulfilling jobs after his and his wife’s death, and put in his Will that slaves he died in possession of were to never be sold to anyone else and that they were to be free people.

What was the average pay in the 1800's?
During the late 19th century, the average American worker was jobless for three or four months a year due to illness, inclement weather, or seasonal unemployment. In the late 19th century, the average income of an urban worker was only about $400 or $500 a year, a sum insufficient to support a family.

After the Presidential Pension act was passed for former presidents, Hoover and Truman were the only living former presidents. Hoover was massively wealthy before entering office and continued to be. Truman was really struggling as he felt it was inappropriate to make money off being president and he came from very modest means at best.
Not needing the pension, but knowing Truman did, Hoover drew his pension anyway to avoid any shame Truman may have felt being the only former president drawing from it. Class move.

Just an FYI - when someone runs for president, his or her party (Republicans or Democrats) pays for the cost of the campaign, so your comment saying it costs a lot of money to be president or run for president is incorrect. Campaigns are very expensive but the political party pays for it, not the individual person. Just as with your Prime Minister, when they run for office, their particular party (Conservative or Labor) pays for the campaign. Let me explain a little further - to be in politics you are part of a particular party. That party has the funds to help you run for political office. How does the party get money you might ask. Well, most of money is donated. Another question you might ask is, why would someone donate to a political party? Think about it - you are a highly successful business person and you want political policy that you agree with or that favors your business, you give a large amount of money to the political party and the party is "indebted" to you, in other words, if the party doesn't do what you want, you will never give again and you might change political parties. So when people run for president they must push programs and policy based on who gave the money. This is how ALL political systems work - same in your country. In conclusion - yes, most people who run for president are financially better off than the average American because they typically have a law degree and prior to running for office they have been successful business people, but again, zero of their own personal money is spent, it all comes from the party.

Rick Scott, a Republican Senator from Florida, is the wealthiest person in congress. He's worth nearly $260 Million. The wealthiest Representative was Republican Gianforte of Montana, worth $189 Million, but he's now Montana's Governor. From the list, it appears that Florida Republican, Vernon Buchanan is now the wealthiest House Rep at $157 Million unless some newly elected Representative has surpassed him. The top 50 wealthiest Senators and Representatives are all worth over $10 Million. (source is wikipedia based on 2019 data FWIW).
Trump pushed government business to his hotels during his presidency, and used his status to up the cost of belonging to Mar a lago: essentially selling access to him through his club. This is part of why this video said that him running his businesses while president was a violation.

the country was started by rich guys, Slavery was illegal in Britain and in 1774 an American slave who escaped while in England was declared free as soon as he landed in England. Washington, Jefferson and friends had hundreds of slaves . They declared independance from Britain to not pay taxes and to keep the ir free labour. Polititions don't run the country, the owners of the massive corporations run the polititions.. No slaves now, but the federal minimum wage is 7.25 per hour for waitresses its 2.13 per hour, When the big financial crisis of 2008-09 happened, congress called Warren Buffett to ask him what they should do. money has always run the U.S.

Our forefathers did NOT want us to be a democracy because a democracy always (in time) leads to Tyranny. In the modern day, that is what happened to Italy and Germany and others.
England started as a democracy then moved to Socialist Democracy and wa starting to enter into pure Socialism until Margaret Thatcher came to power and stopped it. She sold off all government owned businesses and kicked the asses of all Lords..etc.....Our forefathers were correct.
Go read about Democratic Republics, you will find America is the only one. Its still referred to as an experiment. We fight with ourselves and we look stupid sometimes.
