Thank you, Lee. I love all your tours but, as a Master Mason, the tours of the Masonic buildings are my favorites.
Such a beautiful temple. For many years I was on the Board of Directors for the Sacramento Temple, another magnificent 100 year + old building. Much smaller -- 4 floors as opposed to 7 -- it was still amazing. The symbolic art work in this one (and, yes, I understand it all) is beyond beautiful.
Never knew you were a collector of Shrine stuff. Shrine is a club and basically exists to support the hospitals, where no child or family has ever had to pay a dime for treatment. As they say: Not all Masons are Shriners but all Shriners are Masons. Those of us who are (like me) belong because of the hospitals.
Oh --- and I've no idea about that guy at the end. There is nothing "secret" about any Masonic building. Even loge rooms can be visited by anyone as long as no official meeting is taking place. I doubt he is a Mason but if he is, well, I'm embarrassed for my Gentle Craft and, as a Master Mason, I apologize for your abrupt and unpleasant treatment. That is NOT Masonic behavior.

Saw many concerts there in the early 70's. Beautiful building with amazing acoustics. I recall a Miles Davis show. When Miles was more than an hour late for the gig, a member of the audience got up and entertained the restless crowd with a stand-up routine, without a microphone.

The Masonic Temple in Detroit, Michigian had it's conerstone laid on September 12, 1922 and George Washington's trowel was used during the ceremony. This Masonic Temple is the largest Masonic Temple in the world boasting 16 floors, 1,037 rooms some of which were never completed, it cost 6.5 million dollars (about 87.9 million dollars in today's money) and it seats 4,400 and it was opened for use in 1926. B.B. King and Jimi Hendrix are just two of the many performers who have brought their talents to this amazing venue.

I'm glad we heard you outside later but still. I remember a lot of the interior of one in Morris, Illinois, age 7 to 8. They let us use the building for church. Then in Colorado, did a few parades with the Shriners in the little cars and their fezzes, doing all kinds of crazy driving around with the monkeys and slaloming through the floats. I was a clown
At some point when I was just out of high school we went a few times to this great restaurant, that had lots of Shriner memorabilia inside, and all the little cars were parked there encircling the building under some twide eaves, all chained together. That building, just after the exit west to old Arvada, CO, resembled a Masonic temple to me as well. At that time the outside was pink similar to the way Casa Bonita had also been in the day. However inside was very nice and supper club like would've been a great dinner spot on the way to prom. It had a lot of decanters on display of cartoon like couples, obviously hand made ceramics. Hundreds of them, encased in small sliding glass shelves at just the right height to look around at while seated. They were fancy. I felt reasonable safe as the Jr. high clown throwing candy to the little kids on the sides, of the route with the go carts and monkeys riding all around me. Would probably be nervous now, about the monkeys just running all around. Two of the Shriners seemed to be handlers of the monkeys though. They ran back to those same two men jumping on their shoulders and riding on the top of their Fezzes.

When I first moved into my current apartment, ten years ago, I noticed that my neighbor’s backyard bordered the local Masonic Lodge’s property. From my balcony I could make out the symbols in their stained glass windows. Being fascinated by what I saw, I decided to grab my camera and take a few pictures of the building. Within minutes my doorbell started ringing incessantly. When I got to the door, however, there was no one there. I took it as a warning not to get to involved. I tell ya, those Masons aren’t in to photography

An amazing place. Oddly, while Detroit is a distance from me that is "concert range", a few concerts in the Detroit general area in my past, I have never been there. I will say with some confidence that you will find a SIGNIFICANT CONTRAST between this and your next gig venue! On a personal note, I had maternal grandparents who were Freemasons (technically, Freemason and "Eastern Star", because wimmens can't be Freemasons), so my childhood memories hanging around their house include the bits of Freemason paraphernalia around ("what's the thing with the big G in the middle?").

Extra notes... "I need you to stop!"? What? With Brad- you might have said "you might end up back here because of the piano, but you REALLY should check out the ballroom, first, anyway!". Oh yeah... the "I don't even want to know" apparatus. That's a machine for cutting and threading pipe. Might be in use for old plumbing work, certainly needed for any work on old radiator heating (mid July a good time to work on that), and being onstage there, they might be doing something for some kind of theatrical structure whatzit. Who knows.

32:20 (322 is a Masonic symbolic number coincidentally.) When I heard "Sir!?" I knew you had gone too far into the secret catacombs. Congratulations on getting as far as you did! If you ever study all the symbolism of those masonic places its not nearly just as innocently decorative as it appears. Every curve and angle and image of that place has layers of complex stories and metaphors represented. The deeper layers and meanings you would not want to hear before bedtime. Some of the locked doors probably hold secret things used for their rituals. I wouldn't be surprised if any truly odd things happened after that gig. Secret societies are secret for reasons that would probably blow your mind.
Anyway.... That reverb in the ballroom was spectacular! Thank you for the walk around!

I’ve seen concerts in every venue in Detroit over morevthan a few decades and a few of them have managed to avoid the decay of time and this is certainly one of them. But for me nothing beats the intimacy of the Gem or St. Andrews.

Mr Sklar. Next time you find yourself in Oklahoma City, take a drive up to Guthrie, Ok and visit the Scottish Rite. I think youll find it just as fabulous as the Detroit building. Considering its location, maybe more so.

Let's hope your merch doesn't develop an attitude after having been situated under that kind of ceiling!
Not to mention the one man sax/piano duo!
The Shriners have been in the Rose Parade for as long as I can remember, so it's fitting that you have collected their memorabilia.
I had not realized wed be seeing the "bust"; I just figured that somebody else had given their blessings and that you had re-shot....
