- Repairing A Broken Crown
As the number of all-porcelain restorations increases, so too will the need for efficient, reliable intraoral repairs of fractured porcelain. Every time a restoration is removed more tooth structure is sacrificed. In this webinar, we go through all the necessary steps to repair chipped porcelain restorations when it is possible.

Hello thank you for the video. My crown (molar) dropped a small piece becasue of taking braces off. One dentist recommened me to polish it, the other dentist recommened me to bond it. Which way do you think is better? Which way can help the broken stay longer? Thank you very much.
I would try to polish it first and, if not, do bonding there. Is it metal or all porcelain?
Hi, can I add composite to the interproximal wall of a crown just like the way you repair porcelain if the interproximal contact is loose and caused food trapping instead of replacing the whole crown?
Thank you for your question, I have never added to the interproximal area. I’m not sure but all you can do is try. I would use a really good matrix system and gingival barrier to protect the tissues. Let me know how it goes!
Great video. Comprehensive yet concise
You mentioned using a composite that is “creamy”. Which composite do you recommend to use with this kit please?
I like Gradia from GC or Vitalesence from Ultradent!
@@ShannonPaceBrinker thankyou
Can this method be used on the interproximal surface of a zirconia bridge to fix a black triangle between the crown and the adjacent tooth?
It can not. This only can be done to repair the porcelain where it existed before it broke.
Jesus that’s one hell of DA. She prob better then most dentists at direct restoratives
Thank you!!!
About a year after I got a porcelain crown on a molar, I chipped it when I I bit down on a wheat kernel in some Special K cereal. (The kernel wasn't supposed to be there.) Now, I may need to get it repaired or replaced. I really want to preserve the molar. I'm hoping this information will help. 🙏
I wish they still made gold crowns for back teeth. My dad had a gold crown that lasted 60 years!
They do make gold crowns. This is the best option and would ask for that!
@@ShannonPaceBrinker Thank you very much for the information!!
WHAT EVER. KIND OF COFFEE. SHE GETS. I WANT SOME :-)
Thank you!!!
Is it possible to repair the crown if the chip is at the base near the gums. I had a dentist tell me it cannot be repaired. They also did not do the original crown (#5). TIA
They don't like doing repairs that close to the gumline only because that is where it is extremely weak and using the acid etch is not good on tissue if it gets on it!'
But I have done it!

Hello! In this video, you talk about broken porcelain. Are there any similar solutions for broken zirconia?
This is the same regardless of the porcelain type
@@ShannonPaceBrinker Thank you for replying!
Can crowns be sanded down Slightly if they are uneven or slightly longer? I'm almost done with invisalign and my crown is longer then my other front tooth
Absolutely! They should be and then polished
But make sure your finished with the treatment before making any changes
Yet they can but you must be the careful
@@ShannonPaceBrinker and you are all ready
@@ShannonPaceBrinker oooooooooo
Just had a chip on the inner side on my crown fixed but she wouldn't tell me how long the repair will last and said I really should replace the crown
I would not replace it until it breaks! This could last 2-3 years if not more!
How can i contact with you? I need to repair my zirconum crown (

What is a moon tooth?
Tooth that is white right in the center
A question: On a fixed bridge if a fake tooth is chipped off the fixed bridge can a ceramic, crown, bonding or porcelain
or something else be fused together to the metal of where the fake tooth that got chipped off or must the entire
fixed bridge be replaced? In other words it is one fake tooth chipped on a 4 tooth fixed bridge and metal is now showing but can this
be fixed without having to get a new fixed bridge? There is no problem with the fixed bridge. It is with the chipped fake tooth on the
fixed bridge because of accidently biting onto a fork while eating and chipping the fake tooth that is part of the fixed bridge.
Thank you for taking my question.
It could be repaired with composite or filling material, however it depends on the chip
They can repair the bridge but the metal may show through and look a little grey
@@ShannonPaceBrinker
Does the bridge have to be removed to fix it or can it be done ( get fixed) while still in my mouth? Also, can I assume that this will last a few years or is it only temporary meaning only a few months? The chip is basically equal to 1 full tooth as there is a tiny bit remaining on the sides and on the bottom equal to a total of about 5-10% remaining. The metal is exposed now so all I wanted to know is can the metal be covered with something to make it look like a natural tooth. What options do I have now?
Thank you for responding to my question.
@@chrisnalina1755 you can add composite to the bridge or if it is just the front of the bridge sometimes they can make a veneer to go on the front. Composites or filling material will need to be blocked out so using composite that is opaque, then tooth color can buy you sometime unless there is decay under the bridge
@@ShannonPaceBrinker
Thank you for responding. I would like to know if the bridge needs to be removed or can the composite be done without removal of the fixed bridge?
Can just a normal person do any of this cause I don’t have the money to fix my teeth but I’m so unhappy with my work that I’m getting ready to just do it myself. Hell it can’t possibly look any worse than what they did in Mexico. Before I went there, I LOVED my smile so much. Everyone always complimented it. My mom talked me into going to Mexico to fix a failed bridge and somehow they talked me into all kinds of nonsense. I left with my whole smile different. Fri t and back teeth. There was nothing wrong with the front. They were perfect and beautiful but they said I shouldn’t have veneers, crowns were better and they did root canals in all my teeth even though they were fine and did not need them. I kick my own butt every time I think about it for allowing g it to happen but it’s said and done now.
I am so sorry you have gone through this! Where do you live? Sometimes there are dental schools that can help you!
