I started to notice that many comments on this video are about people choosing Sp1 Mahi over Sp3 Mahi rather than the hacker which the video is about lol. This just shows how much impact the old map has on the new map.
With Splat 1 Mahi Mahi it has the paths on the edge of the map. And reason why I brought it up is that it created a balance allowing players to counter and take back their own turf. Now there is hardly any chance to counter and recover your own turf if it is overrun by the enemy. Splatoon 3 Mahi Mahi being small is part of it. But the other reason is that it removed the areas that had some form of a way to make a comeback. From both sides. Splat 1 Mahi Mahi was far more balanced than Splat 3.
@@ryanr27 compared to the bs that normally happens with splatoon 1 hackers, this isn’t really messing up the round, 3v4s are hard but winnable, keeping in mind that the other team still has an advantage with their flying inkling.
I wish Splatoon 3 maps were more like Splatoon 1 maps... Splatoon 3 maps feel WAY too small to me to the point where I can’t really go anywhere without having to fight someone. Don’t want the maps to be too big like Splatoon 2 though...
it feels so wierd to watch Splatoon 1 gameplay after playing 2 and 3.Things have changed so much since then, and I never really realized until now. I'm not gonna comment on the stage difference, though. I basically forgot what the original Mahi Mahi was like.
I love how the game starts off normal but as it goes on everyone starts hearing the impossible fast bomb spam sounds and other anomalies until they all gather and stop fighting to watch the hacker shoop de woop the water with specials😂
the map design choices are part of an effort that started in splatoon 2 to encourage more team fights, so they made maps that have heavy focus on mid with one main choke point and few other good options. An example of this would be inkblot, which has one main route to enter mid, and another route which puts you on low ground and sees you end up at the exact same place the main route drops you down at, rendering it basically useless. There are no alternative routes to get around mid, so every person is centered there for the entire match. This is similar for a lot of other maps, like scorch gorge, new hammerhead bridge, eeltail alley, etc. Not only that, but mid itself was also given more value by removing cover, making it easier to defend, so that in conjunction with the design changes mentioned before controlling mid would be the end all be all of game strategies (examples being inkblot, scorch gorge, mincemeat, hammerhead, and the worst case being mahi mahi) These stages aren't necessarily smaller, but the fact that about half of the map is entirely useless now that alternative routes don't exist, or aren't good enough to warrant using makes it feel like there are less possibilities for game plans. Now of course not every map is like this, I do think hagglefish market is a decent step forward, with 3 main routes that feel fairly substantial, but those are the exception, and never the rule. The worst examples are definitely the splat1 maps, which is weird, since you'd expect them to go hardest with their new design philosophy with the new maps, but whatever.
So weird seeing original Splatoon in 2022 when we have Splatoon 3. Also that's the nice kind of hacker. the kind that isn't just bullying the enemy team constantly, but rather having fun. That's the kind of hacker everyone wants to see right there.

Right? It’s pretty cool to see just how far the graphics have come for the game, not saying S1 looks bad but it’s noticeably worse in quality than S2 and S3
