    I really like when you explore non LEGO alternatives. They can be quite good, more affordable, and deserve to be showcased.

      Agreed. I got some Cobi sets and have looked into other brands thanks to Jang. I hate to say it but I probably would've stuck to only Lego if I hadn't been made aware of how good some of the other stuff out there can be

    This build looks really nice; on first glance it looks like a real antique. I didn’t know this set existed, even though I personally own a couple of Pantasy sets (and would recommend them to others).
    I’m very happy to see you build & review a Pantasy set in detail like this, Jang.
    The little extra bonus functions are clever, and knowing that you had pieces with good fit (and maybe a few with imperfect finish) is good news. Thanks for another excellent review (with insightful analysis)!

    It always feels weird to me when clone brands clone *specific* Lego parts, especially decorative ones, like the "crab" samurai horns or that floral piece used to hold the needle module. Despite that misgiving, I must admit that I'm impressed with the colors and their general consistency. Even if Lego has their financial and manufacturing logistical reasons to not fully splurge on metallic coated pieces, it does look stunning when they do, and metallic Technic pieces in particular are real treats as someone nostalgic for the more experimental late 90s / early 00s era of Technic.

      You should check out the Pantasy steampunk railway station. A great set with a huge amount of metallic gold.

    Sweet! I've been looking into alternative brick brands and saw people recommending Pantasy. I'd never heard of it but I'm glad Jang's done a review. Also who's hating on him for comparing these sets to the real life object. That's a valid comparison that more reviewers should be doing.

    People have no Idea what they are missing with Lego alternatives. The quality is higher than Lego nowadays and you get so many pieces, gold and silver plating and phenomenal building techniques for waaay cheaper.

    • @SO-ym3zs
      @SO-ym3zs 5 днів тому +7

      Totally agree. Lego purists or fanboys are really missing out on some awesome alternative sets, often priced much better than Lego.

    • @sagichnicht6748
      @sagichnicht6748 4 дні тому +1

      In general the quality rivals Lego's among the good alternative brands, also from China. The claim that those are generally better quality than Lego is however hyperbole.

    PANTASY is really one the best(brick-) brands around... LEGO would definitely charge more than 90$ for this... Along with the PANTASY Popeye Steamboat ( which you should also check out, although it seems to be sold out) this was one of my last years favorite sets!!

    When you got to comparing with functional objects, it reminded me that my first Pantasy set a few months ago was their Retro TV - it has a Fresnel lens for a screen and a phone holder in the back so you can watch videos... on your phone but magnified by your brick-built TV!

    I'm very happy to see you review some of these alternative brand building sets! I'm finding more and more of them are offering very nice sets for waaay less than Lego would have charged us for. Also the quality of the pieces for these sets have, or are, improving more and more. Lego probably would have charged $150 for this and blame the cost on the special cone pieces and drum lacquered gold pieces and yet this company can make them just fine without charging a ridiculous price for the set. Lego needs competition in a very bad way. They've been the leader of these type of sets for too long and know they can get away with charging more. Sets like this are proof positive that they can be made more affordable. Lego got used to making their profit margin over the pandemic and won't lower their prices now.... until competitors start taking bites out of their overinflated prices.

    • @SO-ym3zs
      @SO-ym3zs 5 днів тому +4

      A lot of the competing sets these days really highlight how badly Lego overcharges. Some of them have excellent brick quality, all prints, interesting designs, official licenses...for way less money.

    I have one wish: dear Jang, comment on gold colour and parts, but imagine you would loon at Lego. I am pretty sure if Lego would have put out this kind of gold parts we all would think: that it insane and the best ever. But for non Lego parts we always search for a nitpick problem. On the other hand sending love fr Germany and glad you did cover this nice set 😊

    Just goes to show what is possible when companies are actively trying to impress and retain their customers. Well Printed pieces, specially made parts, properly drum lacquered pieces, and not outrageously priced. I hope Lego is taking notes.

    I've considered a number of Pantasy sets. They have a 221 Baker Street set that matches the actual location floorplan in London, except they put a cafe in the place where the gift shop is.
    They have a lot of really creative sets in their line.

    Thank you for covering non-LEGO sets - quite eye opening to someone who doesn't do as much exploring of them. The gold pieces in this set, and some of the Technic-like parts, are just superb. And fully agree on the value of this too. Reasonably priced, even the MSRP, and what a great display piece!
    I'm a sucker for LEGO Icons sets that mimic real stuff [though I've found I really do like them to be 1:1 or close to it - the Fender and amp are lovely, but feel awkward to me due to their size]. While this isn't 1:1, it seems closer to the ballpark and something that would look quite nice next to the Lego Polaroid, typewriter, radio, etc.

    I almost feel like the company was trying to be "Fantasy" but a non-english-reading person confused the shape of letters "P" and "F". Just one line segment difference, easy to mistake.

    • @Mut4ntG4m3r

      many of legos pieces are not or can not be truly design patented. because due to look and function, there is no other way to create them. Also, even WITh patented pieces, its easy to forexample fill a hole or reverse a whole or empty the content of some part of the plastic - and immediately there is no patent anymore.
      It may also partly depend on the local laws.
      Dont worry, its legal. If it wasnt, Lego would already be far and beyond in their compan with law enforcemen :)

    I think Lego - with their kitsch kits (typewriter, camera, radio) - has pushed brick building in a totally wrong direction.
