You got it right with the title pronunciation and the special meaning behind.
Just like you fans were having so much fun with this in all concerts at Sabaton's Europe Tour as well Asian/Australian Tour and more recently at the Europe & UK Tour already finished, is a song they don't wanna left behind in any of their setlist and i love it.
When SuMetal is throwing a kick and saying _"maidens shouldn't be uderstimated",_ that refers to a japanese mob film about some boss mafia daughter before attacking someone, and if you watch the official MV, she's doing something different, this is one of the few songs we always like to recommend the official MV for first time watching, especially to avoid that intro with the breakdown spoilers.
This is a live compilation with different clips from Budokan 2021 celebrating their 10 BABYMETAL Years, (there were 10 different shows throughout 4 months and this one was performed in all these concerts that's why you didn't notice the difference in the editing, and that's the reason this is a fine and decent live compilation after all), the avenger or third backup dancer here was Momoko Okazaki, a former Sakura Gakuin member just like our girls, which recently become the new official member as MomoMetal. The Kami Band got a rotation on guitars too but without dropping any high quality level and they're wearing a new gear on their costumes since 2019, like the masks and black burial robes. This is quite long to explain but in general I think after Mikio Fujioka (beloved Kami Band guitarist) past away, they didn't want to risk more exposure on the Kami Band members, plus it's more practical to wear a mask rather than make-up everyday, there are even a new set of session musicians all of them from the west known as the Western Kami Band, but some fans didn't like the masks either way.
Due to pandemic restrictions these 10 live concerts series were reduced to half capacity, the crowd wasn't allowed to mosh'sh, crowd surfing or shout without face mask, instead they can stomp their feet, clap their hands or doing a human wave, at least they can do something to participate in this epic and memorable date event.
The crowd sound here were played from the speakers so no real crowd sound. And the "crowd wave", similar to soccer stadium at World Cup or baseball was introduced for the first time here to give the fans something fun to interact.
Budokan 2021 marks their 10 years anniversary celebration and seal the Metal Resistance chapter along with another seal for the group, lucky for us that seal is already broken and they already came back releasing new album and doing this World Tour 2023, and more is coming next year.
They always love to show their kawaii (cute) side, especially on songs like these, but at the same time SuMetal is trying to improve when singing this song, she said she didn't mastered yet, that's why sometimes she's doing sound check with this song before live concerts during live tour, is a quintessential BM song and is always a work in progress.

By this time they're totally pro at crowd participation and leading to them doing what they want, easy job, who wouldn't want to be guide by our queen and princess, sore!
This was not the intro song for this live shows, usually is Babymetal Death or In The Name Of, but there were sometimes they did used this as an intro like in 2015.

@@CoachCastTVYes you're Correct Coach, the dancer on the left side, as you look at them, is Momoko aka, Momometal the New Permanent member, taking over Yuimetal's vacated position. Momoko was a later Sakura Gakuin member, along with her other older & newer classmates. Su's "SG" Class included Yui Mizuno, & Moa Kikuchi both were preteen kids back then.
The third girl performing was an "Avenger" at this performance, which is a group of 3 girls that rotated to fill the third position. Her name is Momoko Okazaki and she is now known as Momometal, as she has become the permanent third member. We love her!

They've not only combined J-pop and Metal, they've combined music concerts and Broadway - it's a performance. They've created a personal connection with their fandom and made them a part of that performance. The reason Taylor Swift has been dominating the music scene is because she has made that personal connection as well. Metal + J-pop + theater = Babymetal. They're fun to watch, and their energy, precision, and talent are impressive.

Megitsune has been performed live more than any other BABYMETAL song, and frequently tops fan polls for favorite song.
The music video for this song is also one of their very best.
Su-metal likes to think of this song as expressing the Japanese character of facing adversity with resilience.
A person might feel sad or overwhelmed, but they put on a brave face and carry on.
She has talked about how adult women are so cool as they never show suffering, by acting quite as usual even in a hard time, and she hopes to be like that as well.

You're right in that the third woman seems to vary, in this video it was Momoko and she was serving as an "Avenger", which was Babymetal management's way of saying basically "fill-in" dancer. You may notice that there weren't many shots of her in the video compared to Su and Moa, management generally attempted to downplay the Avengers in the video production.
In March of 2023 Momoko would officially be announced as the new third member of the group as "Momometal", finally bringing an end to the Avenger fill-in era.
I think now would be a good time to check out the piano version of the song „Monochrome“ on the UA-cam channel „The First Take“. It puts Su‘s voice in a whole new light, it really left me breathless, even as an „old“ fan. Although it might be an even better idea to listen to the full Metal version of the song first, rather than the other way around. Great song in both versions!

Great reaction. Arguably the song that showcases better than most what BABYMETAL are about and one that truly reflects their Japanese culture the best starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen or koto, you decide which) in the intro and the lyrics about women being compared to foxes (kitsune 🦊- which also explains Su having the fox mask) which, in Japanese mythology, are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive.
It is also a bit of a push back against the traditional female role in Japanese society I think - or maybe it is - whilst also praising and celebrating the women who have played that role over the years for their strength.
They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings ("crying at heart, smiling at face") are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not kitsune (foxes), they are megitsune (female foxes or vixens) - and they are strong.
The melody used in the intro and in the breakdown in the middle of the song is from the very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms).
When Su did the high kick she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). The last part of this is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss.
Well done with your pronunciation of 'megitsune'. The Budokan 2021 shows were performed during the pandemic and everybody had very strict rules imposed in order for them to be allowed to put the shows on at all , but these were their 10th anniversary celebrations and they really wanted to do these 10 shows.
The Budokan is the most prestigious venue for concerts in Japan (think Carnegie hall or Madison Square Garden), it is where all Japanese artists aspire to play - a tiny minority ever get there.
These 10 shows were not their first time there. They played there in 2014 when they released their first album and they were the youngest female band to ever headline - they sold it out 2 nights running that time.
In 2021 the capacity was halved so the crowd was socially distanced ad everybody had to wear 2 masks, their own plus a commemorative mask given to them on entry. They were not allowed to shout, scream or sing along, they could jump (in their place), wave, clap and stamp, that was all.
They did the Mexican Wave in this performance because they could do the usual shout, mosh and dance along they would have preferred, but BABYMETAL love to get the crowd involved as much as possible, so they find a way.
Su and Moa were supported from 2019 through to the start of this year by any one of 3 girls (the Avengers) dancing in the third spot. From about March 2020 there was just the one Avenger left - Momoko Okazaki (so that was her in this video, she did all 10 Budokan shows). On 1st April this year Momoko was revealed as the official third member, so she is now Momometal.
You are right about Su-metal, she is powerful, very versatile and very feminine - and her stage presence is unbelievable - if you go to see them live she just commands your attention. Moametal and Momometal are also amazing performers and entertainers, but incredibly charming and endearing and their crowd engagement on the European tour that finished last night in Madrid was off the charts.
The Kami Band (East, as it was in this video, or West, who have been touring with them this year) are all world class musicians - which is what BABYMETAL deserve, only the best for them.

When it comes to babymetal, you just can't expect repetition from their songs, it's always different. They recently had their U.S tour and i must say, it's just not a concert, but an experience. The audience mostly gets more tired after the show than the band themselves. 😂

Btw, Bring Me The Horizon just dropped the official live-video for their performance with BabyMetal in Tokyo. They did a collab a while back called Kingslayer, and when BMTH played in Tokyo they invited BM to the stage to actually perform it live. For the first time! The singer said afterwards that they will never play it live without BM. The groups have known each other quite a while, since BM was doing festivals in the US and they were quite young, BMTH took them under their wings and hung out with them backstage. They all became good friends.

Megitsune was the first song released by Babymetal when they became an independent act rather than a subunit of a larger group (Sakura Gakuin). The official MV is really worth the viewing. And the studio recording (also used for the MV) is a wonderful documentation of Su-metal's voice at 15 though I expect the subtleties of what was caught on the recording may be missed by most folks. Su- was encouraged to sing the song in Japanese melodramatic Enka style. At that age she didn't really have the wide vibrato characteristic of the style. But what we got was a no-holds-barred powerful performance with a lot of her newly acquired sweet, narrow vibrato and full timbre. A must hear for all Su- admirers.
The official video to this song is very well done. We always say Live BABYMETAL is Best BABYMETAL, but the official video is a must see too. Do yourself a favor and watch that on your own sometime. The girls even did a commentary video on it years later that is adorable. 🤘🦊🤘

I'm just back from their two final shows of their EU and UK tour. And it was MADNESS!
Let me tell you something: when you see an opera, you don't have subtitles. And of course it's in Italian. This is my opinion about using on screen subtitles. 😁 Because no, this is actually a women empowerment song. But keep in mind that they are using some intricate cultural references (already explained).

I was in the crowd for a Babymetal concert in 2020, in a student hall with about 2000 in the audience. They had no props except for a screen at the back of the stage but they still made it an epic show as they always give their all in their performances. Being in a Babymetal crowd, even a relatively small one, is always a great experience of togetherness and of being part of something united and special - which is why their fanbase is known as The One. Couple of things - it's a strange concept but the Nippon Budokan is a venue where bands and performers play by invitation only - it's not somewhere you just get your agent to book for a gig , and some of the biggest bands in the world have played there over the years - starting with The Beatles in the 60s . Babymetal played the final gig of the sold out UK and EU legs of their current World Tour last night in Madrid , Spain in a massive packed arena .

Nice one! You nailed the pronunciation of Megitsune. This song is a Babymetal classic and a fan favorite from the 1st Babymetal album. They have been performing this song since 2013 when they were 15/14 years old. I'm sure you've received plenty of info already on this song, but some additional context:
1). Megitsune (female fox), is somewhat of a traditionally derogatory term to label a deceitful female. Babymetal calls this out openly by saying, that women are not deceitful, but are actresses. Expected by society to smile in public while hiding their true emotions, and they bloom and fall, like fireworks. They are dispelling this double standard expectation of women. As time marches on, "Ancient Maidens" are transforming into a new, modern "ideal woman".
2). This song is the most played live song for Babymetal, clocking in ~334 times to date!
3). 3rd member here is Momoko Okazaki, 1 of 3 "Avengers" rotating in the 3rd spot vacated by Yui's departure in 2018. While the other 2 "Avengers" went out to do solo projects, Momoko stayed and continues to perform with Babymetal. She was announced as an official 3rd member ("Momometal") at the end of Day 1 (Black Night) performance of the "Babymetal Begins" concert (April 1st, 2023).
4). No single Babymetal song sounds the same! They are known for constantly pushing the envelope and switching it up. Some songs are well blended between J-Pop and Metal, some songs are hard juxtapositions that flip flops between the two, yet other songs are straight-up power metal (i.e., Road of Resistance), and many many more styles, genres, and influences.

Nice reaction. You could probably write a novel about what this song is about. Su considers this one of their harder songs to sing. So of course, she uses to warm up with. That way she can check where her voice is that day. I wonder if they pick the concert play list that way. Would be smart thing to do. And nope they didn't open with this song. And while they did use multiple dancers at one point. The Dancer here is Momoko. Who earlier this year became the new official member. This video is from the 10 years of Babymetal at the Budokan concert series they did. 10 shows for 10 years. They were spread over a few months though. But all of them done around the start of the covid lockdowns. When that went into full effect Babymetal did a few things. They released the MV for BMC. Fun video. And they released a Stairway to Living Legend video for the ONE. Whoo that MV had a lot of folks nervous for the future of Babymetal. Not because the video was bad. but because it was too good. It also kind of announced they were going on Hiatus. That got extended due to covid. This brings us back to present day. With them announcing the Legend MM concert for Momoko's 21st birthday. These concerts have always been big shows. Babymetal goes all out for these. Expect some footage of their big stage coming around March 2024. The short version of the meaning is about the social expectations put on women. (This is what everyone says we should be. How f'd up is that?!) And of course the hidden knife at the center of the song, "Women... shouldn't be underestimated!", a very famous quote. Along the lines of quoting "Say hello to my little friend!".

I'm really enjoying watching you two get to experience Babymetal, when a new video pops up in my feed I want to get to it instantly. Even if I'm supposed to be on a call for work.
This song in particular is one of their core songs, at a very basic level it is comparing traditional Japanese female role in society and saying it's changing, they embrace the change, and don't underestimate them. As is almost always the case any message or intent of a Babymetal song is positive, even their most aggressive music tends to focus on internal aggression to overcome onesself rather than external to overcome (whatever). And the music is just so good.
There is a live performance of this song from a series called the fox festival, where each night of the festival a different demographic was invited to attend. One night was 40 and over. One night was 18 and under. The one where Megitsune was particularly powerful was "Red Fox Festival" night, women-only invited to attend; the audience singing along with emotion and power especially on the "don't underestimate us" line is really really cool. Fantastic song.

You are correct, the Red Fox Festival version of Megitsune is possibly the loudest live performance you will hear for the song. The all-female crowd goes especially wild at the last real lyric, "Maidens Should Not Be Underestimated", and its connotation.

Don't fret Coach, you were spot-on with the pronunciation of Megitsune. This video is from one of a 10-day series of concerts to celebrate their first 10 years as Baby Metal. Nippon Budokan is an arena that was built for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics as a venue for martial arts and has continued to be used in sporting events, especially in pro wrestling, which is very big in Japan. But over the decades it has become one of the most iconic musical venues in the world, easily comparable to Madison Square Garden in NYC, the Forum in LA and Wembley Stadium and Royal Albert Hall in London. Originally, Baby Metal was made up of Suzuka Nakamoto (Su-Metal), Yui Mizuno (Yui-Metal) and Moa Kikuchi (Moa-Metal). When Yui left the group in 2018 they used a rotating group of replacements called The Avengers, who only did the dance routines, among them Riho-Metal, Kano-Metal and Momoko-Metal, who has become the new full member of the group, though Yui-Metal will always be part of Baby Metal no matter where she is.
You should check out the official music video of Megitsune, as it is an extremely well done presentation and you get to see how young the ladies were back then. It is always a pleasure to watch your reactions. And that last lyric, "Maidens Should Not Be Underestimated", is reputed to come from a famous Japanese crime move where the maiden daughter of a crime boss avenges her father's death. I'm not totally sure about that, but I'm sure one of the ace Baby Metal commenters will clear it up. You are officially in The Foxhole with the rest of us.

Oh you're right about the contrast, I kinda had the same reaction of you guys, going through Headbanger and Megitsune you can really tell the difference, Headbanger is a more carefree and crazily creative song while Megitsune is more focused with precise drumming and even more powerful message. But alongside that your brain is certainly adjusting to it, but remember, no BABYMETAL song is the same, so what surprises will they bring next time? Only The Fox God Knows 😁 🦊🤘

don't trust the translations, Babymetal usually uses modern and traditional cultural references, in addition to using encrypted messages, which completely change the meaning of the song.
I recomended to see the official video of MEGITSUNE.
The sound quality is rough at that concert. A tip I will give you is try and watch a video that is close to the date that the album was released. Subsequently voice has changed over the years and some songs sound better when she was the age they wrote it for. Budakan is very famous. Every band has played there even the Beatles. Abba's last live show was performed there.

Budokan is Japan's legendary and most prestigious arena. A lot of Western groups and artists have released live albums from there including Dream Theater, Bryan Adams, Bob Dylan, Deep Purple, Eric Clapton, Ozzy Osbourne, Rainbow, Mr. Big, and Cheap Trick. I'm going to fulfill a lifelong dream in February and visit the arena myself when I see the great Japanese band Nemophila perform there for the first time. My group and I will then be heading about an hour south and staying near Yokohama for a few weeks so that we can see Babymetal perform at Yokohama Arena in early March, the second day of which will be Momoko's birthday! Can't wait!

I lived in Japan for 2 years when I was in the Navy. The Japanese people pronounce their vowel's like this, A is pronounced as I - E is A - I is E. Etc

Great video and yeah the audience is always that involved, I am surprised the audience can walk out after from exhaustion. Yes the 3rd woman is new, Yui metal left a few years ago, Momometal this year became a permanent member. They are women now, getting to mid 20s, as opposed to earlier videos. This song Megitsune means female fox in japanese(kitsune is male) and is an older one from when they were about 15. Yes once the shock wears off you start to realize this is extremely good music. The Kami Band is probably one of the most talented group of musicians on the planet and the members are really good at singing and performing, there is a reason nearly all MVs are performances rather than produced MVs, they are just that good at live performance.
That momo metal she was one of the avengers who took over for yui.

Right of the bat thanks for being open to the-initially at least-unusual experience of Babymetal. My understanding of this song is that traditional Japan is a very patriarchal society. This song talks about how women have long had to be actresses and hide who they really are. Unable under those traditional societal restraints to realize their true nature. I see this song as sort of an anthem for female empowerment, in we're not going to take it anymore. And as an aside I'm a 69 year old white male who is totally enjoying the Babymetal experience. Yes you're right the third dancer/singer is Momometal replacing Yuimetal permanently. Budokan is a prestigious Japanese arena where many of the greatest rock acts in history have been honored to play. Obviously Babymetal was doing the place proud. Again I'm so impressed and pleased that you and your wife have taken the leap into the always surprising foxhole of Babymetal.

Great intro building the suspense - although I had to avert my eyes most of the time because of all the flashing lights! Love the way they involve the fans so much. That's the way to build a loyal fan base!

This is after Yui left. Babymetal with Yui is classic Babymetal. To me, it just wasn't the same after she left.
Please let them react to it naturally, bringing the Yui situation this way won't do them any favor, it has been more than 5 years already and Yui herself made things very clear. BABYMETAL carries the soul of Yui, SU, MOA & MOMOKO now, the circumstances changed but the band didn't changed, it's the same BABYMETAL from 10 years ago, fortunately life goes on and Yui has now other dreams to realize than just BABYMETAL, into what her healthy allows.

Not sure why some people have issues with the compilation vids. They are still good to expose new people to the group.
@@CoachCastTV there are a couple of the comp videos that are pretty awful, the wrong guitar player is shown so the playing doesn't match the music or they even have the wrong girls sometimes. The vast majority of them are just fine though. This one was fine.
@@CoachCastTV The only thing consistent with a compilation video is the music. Furthermore, why settle for chopped up pirated pieces of crap when you can have something much, much better: official music videos or actual concert footage? I only would have you react to the best quality that can be found on UA-cam for the best BABYMETAL experience (short of going to an actual concert) but it's your channel, your reaction - if you want to settle for junk, then that's your affair. Rest assured I won't be making any more suggestions or opinions; I've already thrown in my two cents' worth.
You really need to checkout Band-Maid if you think BabyMetal is good. Best group of musicians out there I recommend Play live as a first song

This live was restricted because the Covid stuff unfortunately :( but the rest of the lives are just another level in everything, I would have recommended the live at Yokohama or Makuhari but it's not a big deal.
