Wow! This is amazing. I was there in my college days. In fact, I used to enjoy "Live under the Sky" at Den-en Coliseum every summer from 1997, when I was a senior high student at one of the nearby schools from the venue, until the event moved to Yomiuri Land. I still remember these encore tunes mainly because of my audio cassette tape I recorded from delayed broadcast via FM Tokyo. Now I see this video for the first time, I feel like I am still 21! Many thanks Way Out West!
You seem to have been quite precocious/matured … musically, that is. Yes, those were the days … I used to enjoy “Live Under The Sky” every summer in the 80’s and 90’s, though the venue was at Osaka Expo Land. Having lived in NZ for more than 20 years, I really miss seeing and hearing jazz giants playing live at the same venue.
Correction of typo. It is "from 1977", not "from 1997." BTW, it would be greatly appreciative if anyone could upload Live under sky performance of VSOP on July, 26, 1979. It was in the heavy rain until encore when Herbie and Wayne played "Stella" and "Green Dolphin." That was such a miraculous moment I had ever had. CBS released vinyl in 1980 but no video can be found.
So thankful this was recorded, the musicians are having so much fun!
They're loving every minute of it and so am I.
never seen sonny smiling so much! all the cats look like they are having the best time!

The supreme moments by the great maestros!!!
Live under the sky 81
My man taking his time and sounding right!

Al Foster’s drum solo is very melodic.
I was there.
