Someone mentioned it.. i'm a dortmund fan though.. Celtic are good.. we know that.. but I won't advise to blame the players.. it's the manager.. the two pressing midfielders neglected Brandt leaving the four dortmund attacking players some couple of space to counter.. a team like slavia plays like you guys and when you are playing against a different team.. (stronger).. you have to respect them and defend.. do not throw players at them anyhow. A team like Liverpool for example.. when they press, they press together.. no spaces for any player. What would now be left for the opposition would be long balls and offsides which might not be successful for them.. it has worked out for Liverpool under jurgen klopp for years.. so generally, I think it's because of the lack of respect for the opposition that killed the game for them.... My opinion on the match though.
Agree. Back in the day, O’Neil and Strachan would accept their squad was against better quality in the CL and alter tactics to suit just that. They then won against all odds. Rodgers just done what he used to do, and what Ange done. Ignorantly try and outplay an elite team.

I’ve said this so many times before. McGregor is only a good player in a team that dominates possession and territory. If Celtic or Scotland are playing a similar level team or weaker then he will look good. However if they’re playing a superior side where he’ll have to defend most of the game then he’s a headless chicken. I was at the Hungary game at the Euros and the amount of times he gave away the ball was unbelievable. I’m happy he’s retired from international football cos Clarke would have kept picking him. The sign of a great player is standing out for your team, no matter if you are favourites or big underdogs. McGregor stands out in a team that is favourites, but ghosts every time he plays in a side that is underdogs. I’m sure he’ll be back to his best against Ross County, and indeed must domestic fixtures, but imo he shouldn’t play in these types of games cos he is defensively naive and can’t break up play or win tackles vs these sorts of teams.
One of the BD players is £90 million, I sort of expect a team with a player of that caliber would wash the floor with Celtic as he probably cost more than the whole Celtic team. Johnstone caused a goal by turning his back, Trusty hasn't gelled yet with the team... Celtic needs to learn from this now. Celtic team can now understand how it feels with a defeat but an embarrassing defeat.....
Playing like Man City (2 advanced midfield players, inverted wingers, playing out from back) against the terrible, terrible teams in Scotland is one thing against better funded and real top quality sides - suicide
They're not just better funded clubs, they're much bigger clubs. This is the problem with Celtic, you just refuse to believe you're not a big club anymore. Those days are long gone. we're talking decades.
@@cooldaddy2877 You Celtic fans are absolutely clueless. Where do you think the money in football comes from? You seem to think it's charity money. It's generated by fans. You have absolutely no idea how football works in the 21st century. You have no idea of the sheer scale of football these days. You exist in a little time warp where you thrash St Johnstone and manage to scrape a win against Falkirk and you genuinely think that makes you a giant club. there's no wonder people down south laugh at you. Honestly if you think celtic are bigger than City you need an urgent mental health assessment. City absolutely dwarf you.
Turned it off at half time. Hate admitting that but I can’t watch the team get battered like that. We were poor but Dortmund were brilliant man 😭too good for us. Crashing down to earth tonight
As said group 3 for a reason, look at the results for pot 3&4 teams , aim is to win the winnable games anything else is well beyond us, top 24 and domestic dominance…
That was utter pish. Poor passing, disjointed, no winning 2nd balls. Schooled on CL level. Dortmund were excellent. Took chances and ran us ragged. Could have been double figures if not for Schmeichel.
Not having a bad word said against the players - the common theme with these CL is Rodgers and is blind egotistical ideals that he can set up a team like ours to go toe to toe with what is largely a squad still intact from reaching the CL final last season.
After full time I’ve drawn a blank in my head after watching that but from what I can remember 3 mistakes at the start I think changed the whole game and all the players change in general
Rodgers sat and watched us getting rag dolled esp in Midfield who are Non Existent. - we can’t blame Lawwells Son this time for us paying £5 million for Trusty who is actually SLOWER than Neil Lennon. We look SCARED. Never seen a team make so many mistakes.
Other than Maeda doing what he does these days that was diabolical, aye they were champions league finalists a couple months ago but the fight from us was minimal at best
The big test for Rodgers will be how he deals with Atlanta in 3 weeks. Like Dortmund, they're a good but not a great side and are currently sitting 12th in Serie A.
Keep seeing we should have stacked the midfield. Who would to put in? Pull Maeda back. He cost us 2 goals in the box. Everybody was poor. Passing was terrible. And pressure on them was non existent. Not the effort expected from a Celtic team
Realistically we were never getting nothing tonight but that was putrid, naive, not doing the basics right, 1st half they looked like scoring every attack. Schooled, didn't even look hungry enough.
Celtic remain without a Champions League win against German opposition, losing each of their last five such matches (P9 D2 L7) Brendan Rodgers is the only manager to see his side concede seven goals in a Champions League match more than once (also 0-7 v Barcelona in 2016 and 1-7 v PSG in 2017). Celtic are the first British team to concede five goals in the first half of a game in major European competition since Cwmbran Town against Progresul Bucharest in the 1997-98 UEFA Cup Winner's Cup. Having Trusty in just means a lack of cohesion to the defence as the defence doesn’t know eachother well enough and that having ccv “could” have meant losing maybe 2 or 3 less goals and maybe we could have scored 1 more or so. Imo it might have been 5-2 not 7-1 tonight with ccv. I also think the occasion got to us, I felt it super early on. We legit also just had a bad game. We can play miles better than that. Some of that is down to them being so good but a lot of it was our own doing. We should just be resolute, behind the ball a bit more and just use the attacking players to attack them with a small complement of players in key areas. We should be keeping a major amount of players back as they are too fast at breaking. We should have noticed that right away and stayed behind the ball. Time and time again we just let them run right through. They should be running into a wall of our players, then we can break with Maeda, Kyogo, and Kuhn.
Gonna try and stay positive... so clearly that means not talking at all about the football, but really interesting way of doing the match reaction. I like getting to see your thoughts at HT, obviously not something you can do often with being at a lot of the games, but when possible it really works. 🍀
maeda the best of a bad bunch tonight. many had the worst performance of their celtic careers. playing against champions league runners up we couldn’t have expected to go out and win - but the manner of the loss was actually embarrassing. need to pick ourselves up for the rest of the games, six to go and we can still get something from this campaign. disgrace tonight but need to keep the faith 🍀
Maeda has the technical ability of a Curb, didnt do anything bar 1 freak moment with an open goal, if he didn’t have pace and stamina he would be playing for Some 6th division Japanese team
Another shocking away performance. Same old players cant play simple passes. Khun, Engles and bernardo were atrocious first half. AJ is no better than Taylor at this level. And most of all Rodgers has learned nothing and keeps trying to go toe to toe against better teams with inferior players. No idea why we paid 6 mill for Trusty as he looks worse than Nawrocki.
Our style will bring games like this. Ultimately we have a gifted coach from an attacking pov but not as un underdog team. He speaks about counter pressing but we don't have the players to do that away to the elite. He done well at Leicester cause the players could. Ultimately there's a pattern where his teams are stylistically good but have off days where it all goes to pieces due to his stubbornness out of possession. Having said that, he is a great coach attacking wise. We will likely win three more games and make the progress we've been crying out for, it just comes with scarring nights like this. Some may call for a defensive coach, a defensive minded coach doesn't always mean you get results. David moves- many celtic fans wanted him last season, he's pragmatic but only won away to a big six side once in his career Steve Clark-defensive minded but can't set Scotland up to be difficult to beat. Ultimately its better to have someone who will allow you to get to the next step even if it brings tough nights like this. Having said that if we're going to press we need to at least try and block passing lanes or pick up players. Otherwise it becomes a 5-0-5 formation and you get played through. Kind of like Manchester United down in the Premier League right now.
Not just Taylor, mcgregor too. Only Scales gets pass marks. Trusty so out if his depth. Even throw ins were going to Dortmund players. Slack passing, not committing to tackles, ball watching. No accuracy and too easily hustled into mistakes. There were no positives in this performance. Dortmund Celtic'd, Celtic.

You either press them in a unified compact way in a high line or play with 3 centre halves and two DM's and play on the counter attack when away to the elite clubs or more humpings on the way.
I dont know why everyone is shocked. Im 55. Been celtic daft since i was 6. Saw this coming a mile off. I actually had money on 5-1 dortmund. Teams like dortmund playing us is the same level as us against st johnstone n ross county. Another humping coming against athletico madrid next. But i believe we can still qualify because these to games plus the games against leipzig and villa were always gonna be a heavy struggle. But the other 4 games are very winable. 12 points and we will make the play offs. At the end of the day its money in the coffers to continue our domestic dominance and thats all that matters.

We need to play teams like this the way a number of Scottish teams play us , namely, park the bus and hit on the break. Going toe to toe with many CL teams is absolutely suicidal .
Better team than us. Couple of deflections cost us. Happens. A few cracking goals, purely because they had the courage to do something we're still only growing into - actually smashing shots when the opportunities present themselves. Trusty absolutely awe-struck - BR should've seen that and made a change. Taylor a poor game - happens. Our right side was nullified - don't know that that's Kuhn's fault or if they're just better stacked on that side. Biggest failing was lack of closing and tackling. Don't know why that's happened - almost scratching my head, wondering how come Maeda hasn't gotten his usual yellow for a well-intentioned but untidy hard tackle.

Don’t even try to make excuses. You’ve got a chequebook manager and the finances to buy your way to the Scottish title, in Europe your team is more than good enough to get decent results but your manager is woefully poor in these situations.
The fact that, after Dortmund was openly walking through our midfield, Rodgers changed nothing tactically was like watching Ange in the UCL again. We have to take a look and say "We can do this stuff domestically but we have to do something different against teams where that gulf exists". Kyogo, Maeda and Kuhn can handle the long ball over the top so the fact we didn't change our approach just kept the bleeding going. Major rethink for the Atalanta game.
Look its this simple wheb we go away in europe we cant think that we can go toe to toe with the elite teams...time after time BR gets the tactis away in europe totally wrong...anybody can see that wee should be a counter attacking team away in europe but it like pissing in the wind
Surprisingly poor. Looked like grammar school kids trying to play adults. Hope they do better against the rest. They've been a joy to watch up until this point, but clearly Celtic are nowhere near "topflight."
We have players who are capable of pressing but only have maeda tracking back. We need to learn to get back and defend, to toggle between parking the bus and pressing, too many players out of postuon. Pressing teams means setting them up for counter attacking which got us every time.
I'm a Dortmund fan, and I'm not here to wind up or say anything at all related to the result - however, I think it's a big avoidant to not compliment Dortmund once in this entire video. You have every right to be optimistic about your club in a big fixture, but BVB made the UCL final last year despite an incredibly poor domestic season. Celtic were atrocious tonight, but even if you weren't I don't see you getting a result in this game. Dortmund at home are no joke, as PSG and Atletico learned last season.
Every respect to Dortmund. Tremendous team, who Ive always had a liking for. (You can do the digging to see the amount of videos I wear Dortmund tops in 😂) Sadly tonight that is the last thing I am focussing on... I'll probably touch on that tomorrow.
I agree 100%. Dortmund are a different level altogether. I already knew that, and expected something similar (maybe not quite as high a score). But far too many Celtic fans are still thinking that they can properly prepare for UCL football by playing against the likes of Ross County and St Mirren. . . . I really think it is a result that Celtic needed. A reality check. Yes, the team is moving in a positive direction after some deterioration last year. But its important to keep in mind just where the SPL stands in terms of international competitiveness. Dortmund were simply brilliant. Celtic fans need to understand where they are in terms of international pecking order, and approach matches with that in mind.
I thought Trusty was absolutely woeful, more so than anyone else on the pitch. He seemed to just watch the attack happen, didn’t even try and stick a foot in or have any fight in him at all.
We were worse than awful. Every season we hope it will be better. Every season seems to get worse. We're constantly out of depth at this level and I don't know where we go from here.
A reality check (which is what this is) can be good or bad depending on what you learn from it. Rodgers track record in this respect is not a source of encouragement. Given the teams still to play though, I think qualification is still very much a possibility. As a Bears fan I actually am happy to see Celtic progress a bit in Europe, for co-efficient reasons and also because an extended European run can be a big strain on resources possibly giving us an opportunity to take advantage in SPL if we don't progress. Having said that it is always nice to see your main rivals get skelped. This needn't be a disaster, but could be if lessons aren't learned.
I was all for Bernardo starting but I’ll admit that we only started playing football when he came off for Hatate. At the end of the day though, everyone was shit, including Schmeichel.
"The rangers" parked the bus and beat them 4-2. Aye dortmund weren't as good back then (aye they had bellingham hummels etc) but that "the rangers" team wasn't as good as ours on the field tonight! And they got to the europa final! By parking the bus and hitting on the counter! How did lenny beat barca? Parking the bus! Rodgers has to take the blame for me 😂 hopefully we park it in italy and get the win, we can really hurt these teams on the counter with our pace if we suck them in to our half and hit them on the break
No way did Rangers park the bus v Dortmund or anyone else in run to final. They may not have went in with Saint Brendans naivety with the usual skudding inevitable but Rangers didn't score 4 parking the bus.
"Park the bus"?? Rangers demolished a much stronger Dortmund side that night ....should have been 5-2 after a perfectly good Morelos goal got wrongly chopped off. Weak-minded nonsense to start slating the team who have kept the co-efficient up these past few years...just to deflect from Celtic's problems in Europe.
I love this club so much but todays match was an utter disaster. I live in the states so I dont have much opportunity to watch the boys most game days. I watched the first 10 minutes or so before I had to head to work but man am I glad I didnt have a chance to watch us get completely shredded
Everyone, particularly various Celtic podcasts, got carried away last week. Hell of a reality check last night. They did to us what we do to SPL teams mainly because our budget is like the rest of the SPL compared to the like of Dortmund.
That’s not true. Dortmund spent €80m in the Summer and Celtic spent €33m. So only 2.4x more than Celtic. Dortmunds squad is worth €462m and Celtics is worth €125m- so 3.7x more valuable. Saints on the other hand spent zero in the Summer. Yes zero. Their squad is worth €6m- meaning Celtics is 21x more valuable. The gap between Dortmund and Celtic, financially speaking, is nothing compared to between Celtic and most of the SPL teams who don’t even have the money to buy one player.
BR needs to add a 2nd style for this type of game. Sit back and counter at pace. We pressed too far up and way too often leaving us disjointed. This one is on BR.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

David moves- many celtic fans wanted him last season, he's pragmatic but only won away to a big six side once in his career
Steve Clark-defensive minded but can't set Scotland up to be difficult to beat.
Trusty was too slow, Taylor caught out of position and Kyogo and Kuhn...well....

Surprisingly poor. Looked like grammar school kids trying to play adults. Hope they do better against the rest. They've been a joy to watch up until this point, but clearly Celtic are nowhere near "topflight."
Just face reality. You are a small fish in a big pond. Always will be.
We have players who are capable of pressing but only have maeda tracking back. We need to learn to get back and defend, to toggle between parking the bus and pressing, too many players out of postuon. Pressing teams means setting them up for counter attacking which got us every time.
The reason for the humping is that we play week in week out in a farmers league. We either get out or get ready for a century of results like this.

Remember when rangers bear you 4-2 8n Germany??😂😂😂

The analysis from a guy on twitter picked out Johnston’s distribution as a major weak point for celtic. He was right.
