I feel like most people are here from researching their family history. My 8th great grandfather's name was Captain Joshua C. Hall. Many others including John Lay and a William Rogers.

Rev Thomas Hooker's sister Dorothy Hooker Chester was my 8th great grandmother. She was part of the congregation that left the Massachusetts bay Colony for less restrictive church laws.

I just found out that I'm a descendant of Simon Mills, a founder of Winsor, Connecticut. He was with the Puritan movement sailing on the "Mary and John" in 1630. He and his twin grandchildren were killed by Indians during an attack on his property.

I'm a direct descendant of Rev Thomas Hooker, he's my 9th great grandfather. When I did my ancestry it's amazing how many important historical figures I was either direct descendant or indirect descendant of. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin( my 7th great great mother was his step grandmother) to name a few. My ancestors sure got around.

I hadn't thought to look for history about the Connecticut colony. I became interested as @macpduf2119, looking for relatives. I'm following the descendants of H.H.Hurlbut from his family tree written in the late 19th century in Chicago. My research implies that Thomas Hurlbut was one of the settlers in the "second arrival, which is to be the year after the first ship came over. The intent was to follow the Hudson Bay colony outside of Vancouver, Washington. Benjamin Franklin made a point of wearing an unfashionable rather ragged-looking felt hat to a French salon. Franklin was quite a charmer, as has been documented over and over. In this case, the felt hat became au courant and those with a decerning eye were the only ones who could see both the charm and practicality. I guess. The etchings of the time made him look like a goof, so this might be another case of people not recognizing what the King in Anderson's children's book was wearing.
But, back to my original story: Thomas Hurlbut was documented in, I believe, the first case of somebody being shot (by an arrow) by the locals who would prefer him not to come onto their land. I like to share that story, I might add. I always thought, but now it couldn't be true, that the Pirot Native shouted before he released his arrow at poor and clueless Thomas": No White man. Go home!" and then twang. I especially love that it might have been my relative. It seems to be a genetic anomaly that our family goes back that far, getting in trouble and caught red-handed.😆
Great program, Stephen! It's getting a little long of the tooth, however. I'd love an opportunity to redo your video; I'm just starting in videography and editing. If it comes out lame, you could walk right by and take a pass. I need the practice and I need some honest criticism so it would still be helpful. If it is great--which I think it could be--you could use it if you like without charge--I'm not sure I'd like someone fussing with my work either if I were in your shoes. Again, I need the practice. I plan to do some history videos, though very different than your presentations that appear to be designed for students. I'm not sure this is the best way to contact you, so forgive my n00biness, if you would.😉😀

New Haven was an independent colony originally. It was abolished in 1665, why. My book and pods on youtube and facebook tell of a true story when two republican generals, Whalley and Goffe, who had signed the death warrant of King Charles the first of England, sort refuge. In the Name of the Crown, on amazon and kindle tells of the first attempt at independence.

Is he one of the founders on the historic monument? My ancestor George Stocking was in Thomas Hooker's group and is one of the names on the monument. He most likely knew Samuel Hubbard.
