Saw Dan playing 12 years ago in a sleepy South African student town called Potch, 50 people maximum in the shadiest bar in the world.... It was a majestic set! So amazing to see him getting much deserved recognition internationally! Befok!
Saw him for the first time in 2015 at a small festival. Boy, what an impression he made then. Great performance. Keeping track of him from that day, an exceptionally good guitarist, with a very extraordanary own style. Guitar player -with/to my-, heart and soul.
Love from South Africa.. I've seen this guy live a few times, always a good time. Also, got a Joyo Ultimate Drive the other day so seeing it on here was pretty great.
That pedalboard: it's like what i would expect to see on "How to Sound Like Dan Patlansky on a Budget." Is he sponsored by Joyo or something? Pretty cool to see someone so good using some 'humble' gear. Hope to get to see him live at some point.
CentaurusRelax314 man its all about tone, no mater how much the price or "class" is. The Ultimate Drive's really nice OCD clone. And i would say it has a smoother low than the original OCD
Im looking for pups for my 83 Squire "Sq".It was stolen and when I got it back it had been gutted for original pups and cheapest of cheap pups put in. Ive had many Fender strats,American made,MIM,Deluxe Players Strat and this 1983 Made In Japan and none have sounded as good it sounds! Think ill check into these Sider pups. They sound great.
This guy is a beast and he's doing what people did with strats back in the day.with the massive frets and fat ass strings. Now everybody is after collector grade "period correct" stuff but these were common mods that shaped what we think of as the quintessential strat sound. This is the best example of the old school strat sound I've heard on youtube.
Picked up an ultimate drive because of this video! Fully impressed and cost me less than half of a standard tube screamer!! Well worth checking out and I’ll be digging into some other joyo pedals as a result!
Joyo’s ultimate drive, vintage overdrive and us dream are all FANTASTIC pedals. I’ve been using a vintage drive on my rehearsal board for years now and the stupid thing sounds as nice as my 808s. Awesome pedals for cheapskates and tone collectors alike
Love this man's playing. Does anyone know if that gouge on the top of the guitar is intentional, to minimize obstruction to his strumming hand, or is it wear and tear ?
tone is all in the fingernails they have to be cut and trimmed properly to play properly to fingerpick and whatnot could you imagine playing a guitar with no fingernails. Everybody thinks that guns kill people too, it's not the gun it's not the people it's the bullet!
check my gazorbo channel out on UA-cam, watch me play Santana Black Magic Woman! Watch me play bass on purple miracle we never played together before and that was a battle of the bands contest on the Wildwood New Jersey Beach featuring Alexa Raquel!
Hello love your tone but saw you playing Nokkel 59 pickups recently and wondering what brand and set you are using as of today? I think I really like the Nokkel 59's when I heard you playing those. Any preference? Thanks!
It's funny this hype about slider pickups. They make pretty good pickups. They're fine. I live in Australia and I had sliders in my strat because it came with them. However, Dave leddins pickups are nicer than sliders by far. Dave is from brisbane, Australia. Sliders are made in Sydney. I had some leddins ready for my strat to swap out but was curious to hear sliders. I put the leddins in and they blew the sliders away. More touch sensitive, sweeter sounding, perfect amount of top end. Don't believe hype and be open to trying different things. Leddin pickups. Truly the best pickups I have ever heard in my life amongst real vintage, slider, throbak, lollar. Also priced cheaper and more appropriately.
It's common in old strats, the vintage bridge is wider in string spacing to the modern ones and a lot of the old necks were quite narrow in the high registers. I play with two fender necks from 1963 and one I had to change the bridge to narrower spacing as it was to annoying for me.
I’ve gone through a couple of those ultimate drives, for the price they’re awesome, but in comparing it to even a soul food or anything by Jhs it falls flat in my opinion. Try it as a good place to start. Love dan and his playing is ferocious
He did not, and I'm so disappointed... :( He is a hungarian effects maker, very talented man, called Albert Kasléder, he makes lots of amazing pedals. And yes, it's a Voodoo Chile octafuzz.
Huge hype about slider's and they aren't that amazing. They are good pickups, but not the best out there. There is a guy named Dave leddin also from Australia. Leddins are the best pickups I have ever heard in my life. Yet to try the Foley's, but the leddins are literally bursting with flavour and liveliness.
@@j.rozman7016 ha! Interesting. Massive hype about slider pickups in Australia right now. It's basically just people on forums hyping up a brand who don't really know what they're talking about. No offence to them.
His base scale here is probably just “A” Blues scale. He adds the major third of the A in this which is a very common thing. The rest of those licks are most likely different jazz arpeggio phrases if that makes sense. Definitely not just one scale though.
"Strattiest-sounding" Strat I've heard in a long time, absolutely lush! Dan is a beast of a player too!
Llllllll

One of the best guitarists in the world!
That accent! He's DEFINITELY South African 🇿🇦
That’s "SethEFrikin" (as a boring-ass American, South African is one of my favorite accents.)
This guy is ridiculously good, would love to see him live
Such talent, and yet very humble musician, my respects go to dan!

That strat is gorgeous. The tones are just lovely. Love strats.
That slapping was amazing :O
Pierre Rodriguez find your way to tosin abasi or Evan Brewer dans was awesome but those 2 guys are next level
Oh my, that's how a strat should sound...His playing is ridiculously good! Awesome video!
Love from South Africa.. I've seen this guy live a few times, always a good time. Also, got a Joyo Ultimate Drive the other day so seeing it on here was pretty great.
Love Dan's playing so much he amazing
Dan and his band are great. Go watch them live!
This is a wonderful interview and demonstration. Also enjoyed the different camera views. Fantastic guitarist!

Lintang Ken Suminar i agree. I already have two Joyo pedals. Not sure I would, though, if I didn't need to be 'practical' right now.
Go watch him. Dan is awesome live!
Working musician m8 m8. They're all skint these days. Also cocaine aint cheap like it used to be. ;)
the fuzz is bout 500 bucks
Rod Slider's pickups = KILLER vintage wound. I love them!

That amp is incredible. I have one, nd it's a beautiful full sounding amp. And the reverb on it… is just wow.
Magnificent Outstanding Guitar Player & Singer as Well!!!
This guy loves Jimi as much as I do! Great video, great player
Excellent, Dan. Enjoy the upcoming tour. Knock their socks off!
I love this guy. Great tones. Solid dynamics.
Great video, love those pick ups and thanks for the generous lesson...very funky strat licks. Hope to catch a live show sometime.
started listening to Dan recently n really loving his style 🎸🎸🎸🔊🔊🔊

So envious of that old strat ; )
Dude's a Monster
Thanks I spend hours with you learning techniques .feel and tone. I have the original 71 USA and sametone
Sick playing and seems like such a smart, cool dude.
Amazing musician. This is more like a Ted Talk. Well done and please more like this. Thank you and subbed
God that fuzzy tone at the end...Glorious.

A real master! Dan!👌💥
The Joyo Ultimate Drive is so good it’s stupid. I love that pedal
Tone is all on the fingers!!
Joshua Marshall actually there is zero tone in fingers
He has an insane tone!

Dude’s right hand is awesome.
I was going to play me Les Paul today. But then I watched two Dan vids. Strat today it is.
Just fantastic fella
Great lessons, subbed! 🤘🏼
He had a veery nawsty eccident!
This was awesome
This fella has the statiest sounding strat of all strats
Hi...Great player...Thanks...DH
does he play music or just solo licks

Just too good.
I cant believe how many times Iv actually watched this video
What tuning does he use? Those strings were extremely slinky.
I saw in another video that's it's predominately Eb tuning. Which I agree with him that it just makes a strat sound it's best.
If you watch anything, watch for two minutes from 13:12!
I always wondered what Milo Yiannopulos did in his down time.
Add came on for data plans, i thought it was an anagram of dan patalansky.
Thanks Dan 😎👍🏻🎸🇦🇺
That guitar sounds so fucking good
What’s that orange pedal?
Awesome!
Is it only me or is the high e string almost off the fretboard in higher positions?
Ivan Májsky
Sounds like your intonation is off on the bridge - just needs a good setup

No homo but I freakin love his accent
Surprised he got fuzz clean up with that treble bleed! I was almost certain he was using a treble booster on certain songs 🤷🏼♂️
SM Fuzz looks cool but dont know why they claim it is hand built when you see gut shot that clearly are not (smd components).
lots of companies say "hand built" when really they mean "hand assembled".
Wow. A leyend

Did he really tattoo "TONE" on his right hand?
Tone is in his hands really hahah
Hahhaha that was my thought exactly
🤦🏻♂️
No he didn't, he got an anagram for NOTE on his hand.
Aint my skin, I dont give a shit. Stop judging folks.
Which sliders pickups exactly do you use?
He uses the 59s
Pat Danlansky?
Did I miss something? Did Dan say what the yellow/orange pedal is?
John Hegarty thats a Kasleder Voodoo Child i think (octave fuzz)
He did not, and I'm so disappointed... :( He is a hungarian effects maker, very talented man, called Albert Kasléder, he makes lots of amazing pedals. And yes, it's a Voodoo Chile octafuzz.
Anyone knows which slider pickups exactly is he using?
57’s
I just noticed that Dan has weird looking ears [the internals]. I wonder if they are a more evolved version of what we commoners have.
15:12 What's happends???
Who is Dan Patlansky?
James Garrison Its a guitar player if you didnt notice that he has a guitar on his lap.
He may b for South Africa but thats all hot rod Texas blues dude ripps
Damn This joyo sound awesome 😮 Just buy one becouse of This vídeo 😅 😂
Damn, that monster string gauge
Holy shit when he hit that fuzz!?!
He should have tried Mark Foley RSV 59 PUs :)

Yes!!!!
He uses a joyo...🤯🤯

🛋️🤴 dapper.
When did Tom Hiddleston get a neck tattoo? Also, I didn't know he was a monster of a musician.
I'm not sure I can guage the cab - 4 x 12" or 2 x 12"?
Paul Tillett
Looks like two twelve
That slap technique section made me giddy
You may like some of Ani Defrancos stuff.
Why would they fade out on his last notes? Silly and disrespectful.
Wow…joyo…who’d have thought?
