Some songs/parts of songs are meant to be performed precisely the way they are; they don't allow improvisation because their authenticity is such that it's more than enough to get everything as it is. Some performers fail to understand this and they endeavor to add their own style where they shouldn't and they end up ruining songs. You did precisely what needed to be done and did it admirably :) P.S. The original Great gig in the sky was improvised indeed but it ended up being very unique.

We were there to see her in Milwaukee 3 years ago when she started singing Everybody jumped out of their chairs and were applauding her and just giving her a standing ovation and you could see that she was so stunned that she just started singing the song and everybody was giving her a standing ovation I was there with my future husband and we just loved it she really sings so beautiful I am so happy to say that I was there to see her such a beautiful voice

First thing I've seen her perform since winning season 4 of Canadian Idol. WOW. and here I thought she'd get lost in the post-Canadian Idol wasteland like most CI contestants.
In the seventies-before the internet and Google-I've always thought that the singer is black, considering the high notes of the wailing/howling and with such an emotional delivery. It was only in the early 2Ks that I found out she's white and her name is Clare Torry. l thought this wailing could never be replicated as the original, but Eva Avila nailed it, especially the nuances and the runs. Her voiced didn't crack nor did I hear any growl. I say perfection! No one can touch this masterpiece.
Eva definitely is one of the very FEW vocalists who can match Clare Torrey's contribution to Floyd's original Great Gig in the Sky masterpiece. Well done!

I think Clare and other accounts state that she was directed by Roger's cues behind the glass. And she had little input after she did the take, and it wasn't until she saw the album for sale that she knew she made the cut.

I yelled over a few feet to them on the way out the door when they immediately came down to the meet and greet. I yelled "Thank you" a couple times from a few feet away and Eva turned to acknowledge with the "thumbs up" and reciprocated on my upload They are a true class act! in more ways than one. I'm a musician who can hear frequency deviations as a machinist and audio connoisseur precision. Eva! Spot on. SPOT ON!!! Hands down sets the standard for vocal precision. If your this talented you should be doing what Mariah Carey was doing.. songs that are less pop.. and more about skill..this performance alone is bigger then her entire album of average pop.. someone like this should be working on EPIC classics...like Whitney Houston with Bodyguard to showcase your not average... like Mariah.. Alicia Keys..
This song was never to be improved upon. But Eva improved it. Better than the original. Not on purpose, her voice is just better. Claire Torrey gets credit for creating the vocals; Eva Avila gets credit for perfecting them.
