    Now this is how a flight video is supposed to be, I wanna hear everything from the safety announcements, to the GeNX engines start (lovely), the hydraulic pumps, the special offers, lunch service, convos, shut down, everything. Feels like I'm on the flight with you and im on my couch. Most reviews I see are all about the meal service reviews and the business class seats my broke ass can't afford. Plus the best parts of the flight (take off and landing) are usually completely ruined with useless music and sped up. This video was Perfect. I love AA's 787s and I can't wait to fly one to MMUN, Thank you!

    For me, one of the most interesting things about this flight is the range of possible paths from DFW to HNL; I've seen them enter the Pacific from as far south as the middle of Baja California to as far north as the SF Bay Area, which seems to be the route for this flight

      Seeing how only the flaperon moves and not the aileron, it's probably the fly-by-wire system doing it. Not sure why though.

    I really enjoyed this upload, thank you! ....Not a very talkative flight deck; probably sleeping up there!.....A bit bumpy starting around 33:20! Seems like a slight to moderate turbulence during much of this flight. Actually, all of my flights to Honolulu we’re fairly choppy. Looks like he was in a holding pattern at the end. I saw the airport go by twice. (I hope the weather improved for you!)

      Thanks for watching my friend! Sadly the weather didn't improve, but considering I was only in Honolulu for about 12 hours, I didn't really give it time to get better. I took this flight specifically for the channel. I flew in, went to the hotel, and grabbed a flight back first think the next day.

    In 2013, we flew American from Madison, Wi to Honolulu. Coming in to Dallas, I was taking video, when the stewardess barked an order, “Turn that camera off.” Later, I was looking at scenery and mountains when male flight attendant, barked me, “Pull your window shade down.” So people can watch the movie. By the time the movie was over, we were out over the ocean, nothing to see. P.s. I enjoyed your video.

    • @sla31
      @sla31  3 роки тому +1

      That’s funny you mention that, as I argued with a flight attendant on this exact flight about my window.... Not only did she demand that I close the window, but when I politely informed her that I paid for a window seat, and I preferred to have the window open, she began to berate me in front of the passengers around me. Informing the passengers around me, that I was the reason why no one else could sleep, watch a movie, or do anything else they wanted to do. I won the argument in the end, because despite flight attendants having near unlimited power onboard, they cannot force passengers to keep their window closed, and she knew it. I actually ended up getting 25,000 advantage miles from American over this incident. When I arrived in Honolulu, I wrote them a pretty pointed letter, informing them how unprofessional it was for that flight attendant to not only demand that I close my window, but also berate me in front of other passengers because I wouldn’t. Their customer service department agreed that the situation was handled very poorly by the flight attendant, and of course I don’t know if anything actually ever happened to her, but they said she was going to be disciplined....
      As to your other point. In 2013, although the rule was wildly out of date, it was still technically against federal regulations to use any type of electronic device during takeoff and landing. So, it’s possible the flight attendant was referencing that. However, by that time, most flight attendants didn’t bother with people using phones and stuff during takeoff and landing. The rule was officially changed to allow small handheld electronics to be used during takeoff and landing in 2016.
      Anyways, thanks for dragging those memories back out 🤣. This is actually not the only time this has happened to me with window shades. I’m glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching!

    • @Kenika
      @Kenika 3 роки тому

      @@sla31 I may have been aware of that rule, but was unsure if it applied to cameras. There have been so many UA-cam videos, that I thought it was ok. I was thinking about this during the night, and next time I might be more vocal, and not timidly comply like I did. I used to like flying American, but that kind of soured me on them.

    Glory be to our creator who created birds with feathers , and gave them the ability to fly up in the sky and stay airborne despite gravity.And then he inspired his other creation without feathers, to create the same version of those birds made out of metal with fixed wings. And in that bird men managed to miraculously stay airborne. And make themselves comfortable as if they were home in their living room . And that bird with the will of the creator . And the command of men , will transition from one city at night when the moon is full . And arrive at another city when the star is still shining .

    No winglets? Thought all newer commercial acft got 'em. Question: what to call that little segment of trailing edge that kinda wants to be a flap during takeoff, a spoiler on landing, and flop around aimlessly the rest of the time?

    • @sla31
      @sla31  4 роки тому +1

      So the 787 was designed with the winglets built in to the wing. These types of “winglets” are called Raked Wingtips. The 767-400 and 777-300/ER have the same type of design. The difference is that the wing on the 787 flexes and bends much more than the 767-400 or 777-300/ER. So, what looks like a flap part of the wing when on the ground, becomes a much more prominent wingtip when in the air. So, it does have a “winglet”, it’s just a different design. The other part you’re referring to is called the flaperon. It’s a cross between an aileron and a flap. That’s why you see it take on so many rolls. It does appear to he aimless at times; but it’s actually doing what it’s supposed to do. It’s a very versatile control surface. The 777 also has this type of control surface.

    • @innocentbystander3798

      Ah - interesting. Raked wingtips and flaperons. Thanks for taking the time to reply. Guess I'd better head over to the interwebs to brush up on my wing design knowledge.

    Well, the landing may have been a little "damp" (lol)...but those awesome, thick low clouds made for a pretty spectacular approach, IMO. Nice to see that American actually gave you guys a bit more than just a cookie to eat on this 8+ hour flight. And I'm just curious about the routing from Dallas to the west coast. I was surprised how much snow there was along the way. I didn't expect that. Would you know if this was the typical route or was it further north than usual for some reason (like strong winds aloft, perhaps)? Thanks. :)

    • @sla31
      @sla31  4 роки тому +2

      They didn't use to give you a meal on these flights. That was years ago, but I flew from DFW-HNL and OGG back when they still had 767-300's on that route, and all you got was the drink/pretzels. It was insane. Thanks goodness they brought back meal service haha. As for the routing. We did go pretty far north. We ended up heading out over the Pacific right at San Francisco. Which is much farther north than this flight usually goes. It typically heads out over Los Angeles. I think there were heavy headwinds farther south that day. Thanks for watching my friend!

    • @sla31
      @sla31  4 роки тому +2

      Well, this was a very heavy flight. That may have had something to do with it. It was a full flight and even though it was a domestic flight, it still was over 8 hours. So, we would've been loaded up with fuel too. Anyways, thanks for watching!
