She gave each day's performance a different twist, and the subtlety and nuance of day 6, blended seamlessly with the powerful passages, is just out of this world. Might be too much to ask you guys to react to both day 2 and day 6, but if you don't do both, I hope you at least watch day 6 on your own 😊 Day 2 Never Enough is probably my favorite, though. Thank you so much for appreciating Morissette's talent. She is one of the best singers in this generation. Like what you said and I agree, not only is she gifted with a beautiful voice, a voice with beautiful timbre and harmonics, pleasing to the ears and one that we would not tire listening to, but also she adds her signature squeaks that we don't usually hear from other singers, even the popular ones. Also, did you notice that when she is belting high notes, her voice remains full and rounded, not thinning, or screechy, or strained. That's why it looks easy for her. And also notice her breath control and support, she can sustain long phrases, like in here, the "Never Enough, Never, Never" 2x and the final "For Me" with a crescendo, without gasping for breath, as would be for a normal person or ordinary singer. When you are moved to tears while watching her, or feel the chills and goosebumps, that's what we call you have been "Mori-fied" 😅 Please continue to watch and make reactions of her performances. Morissette is my favorite singer by a long shot. As you say, many singers can hit notes, but Morissette is different. It all starts with her tone of voice for me which is so full and rich and soothing. Add in her ability to sustain notes and insert so many vocal techniques, including her story-telling and ability to convey just the right emotions and Voila! - there you have Morissette - the best of the best whose performances speak to my soul like no others!! She also happens to be such a nice and humble person which really is the clincher for me as well.

Morissette is 26 years old. She was 22 in this video. Her father was a rock singer and her original musical influence. Her first name is actually Johanne and her middle name is Morissette, having been named after Johann Sebastian Bach and Alanis Morissette (clearly a music-loving family!). One of the signatures of her voice is her use of grit/distortion/intentional vocal breaks, and I think this is her father's influence showing 🙂 She also had a bit of musical theatre training when she was on the Philippines' version of Camp Rock, and even though her main genre is pop, she does gorgeous renditions of music from other genres (including musical theatre and Disney) while staying true to her signature sound. She is incredibly resilient. When she was 11, she had surgery for a throat tumor and was terrified she may never sing again. Thankfully, that didn't happen! She did a number of singing competitions while growing up, including The Voice Philippines, but kept falling short of the very top. (As a longtime musician who lives in the US and isn't Filipino but has followed Filipino music for 30+ years, in my opinion this is because her voice and singing style are different than what is typically popular there, e.g. lots of fans are obsessed with belting with as much power and/or ornamentation as possible). She will readily admit this became so discouraging that she almost decided to throw in the towel and give up on her dream. But her stint on The Voice opened doors with people who couldn't deny her talent, and she signed a record and TV deal with the largest network, ABS-CBN. Ironically, she became a member of a four-person group called the Birit ("belting") Queens on that network's weekly singing show. She can belt with the best of them, but her style leans more toward elegance than sheer, unadulterated blasting power (her former groupmate Jona has a very similar style). In fact, when her initial contract ended about three years ago and she became an independent artist, she made a deliberate shift away from the "birit" style of singing. She also deliberately shifted away from using her whistle register so much, even though it's an ability she's always naturally had, largely because she didn't want to be pigeonholed as "that singer who can do whistle tones."
