    How is the bowing or flex of the bed panels? I am really considering this but I’ve been told the flex isn’t strong. Can you give me some insights on this? Such as if you are bouncing around on it or moving? You have the V2 I believe so my source could have experienced it with the v1. Thank you in advance

      We haven’t actually slept on it yet. my wife and I both climbed up there and laid on the mattress and it felt really solid to us. I weigh about 200 pounds. Also, I rolled around as my wife watched underneath the platform to see how much it flexed and she said it wasn’t very much. No concerns here! And yes, this is the V2. By the way, I bought a 6 inch trifold memory foam mattress off Amazon and will be doing a review of that soon. Fits great with a little room on the sides for phones, mugs, etc. (far cheaper than the mattress designed for this platform)

      @@nomaddict5279 I've been considering either build a system like this or buying this one but I've seen pictures where it looks like the moab bed platform looks to be sagging a bit. That's good to hear it isn't for you. What trifold mattress did you get off Amazon? I've been looking at those as well.

      @@send2todd We went with this queen size mattress, and also added a 1.5 inch memory foam topper to make it just a little softer. I would also recommend getting the storage bag for the mattress unless you plan to keep it in your van.

    How easy is it to raise the bed? How long does it take, wish you would have made a video raising the bed

    • @nomaddict5279

      To raise the bed, you first remove the three platform panels. Then, you loosen two nuts on each of the horizontal supports (14 mm I believe). After that, you just lift the support up to whatever position you need it to be and then tighten the nuts. The hardest thing is making sure you are at the same position in both pieces of L track. Making a little mark on each piece of L track would help. that’s a good suggestion, though… I will try to make time to make a video about that. One annoying thing about the bed platform is that there are too little latch mechanisms for each of the platform panels. Those can be a bit of a pain to unlatch so that you can then squeeze the panel together in order to remove it. They tend to latch when you don’t want them to. Also, I have to climb under the panels to make sure they are latched whenever it is set up and ready to use so that they don’t accidentally come loose while sleeping on the platform. I can include that in the same video, as it’s kind of hard to explain in writing.

    What was the deciding factor on sleeping longways? I’m really on the fence about adding flares to my rig. Like you, mine will have dual purpose.

    • @nomaddict5279

      Hey, so there were a couple of factors for me. First, I had read that when you sleep sideways, whoever is sleeping toward the back of the van has to crawl over the other person if they need to get up in the night. Second, just the cost and labor of installing the side flares. That said, now that we have camped in the van, it would be nice to have the additional room behind the second row of seats. I think I would probably prefer to have the extra room than to worry too much about the other two factors. I’m not sure if the MOAB bed would work with side flares.

      Thinking about this some more, I would get the dimensions of the bed platform that would be used with flares versus the dimensions of the Moab platform and see how much room you would really save in front of the bed platform. It may not be worth the cost and hassle of crawling over someone for just a few inches of room.

    Hey! Great video, super super helpful! I was wondering if you were doing fabric panels for the walls, and if so would you still mount the MOAB orange beams to the vans infrastructure or on top of the panels. Also are you doing flares or an electrical system underneath? I know you arent directly affiliated with AW, but I'm sure you know more than me and figured I would ask. Thanks again love the help!

      Hey Grant! Thanks so much for the feedback! Glad it was helpful. We made wall panels out of 1/8 inch birch and cover them in fabric. Totally DIY, but it worked pretty well and saved a ton of money. Basically used cardboard to make templates around the wheel well and then traced that onto the birch wood. Total cost was around $300 I think. We went over the top of the orange metal. The only wires I have behind the panels are for some reading lights/USB ports… Very minimal. My Instagram has pictures of the wall panels. @nomaddict_sprinter. Let me know if you have any other questions!

    Whats the purpose of the metal behind the L track?

    • @nomaddict5279
      @nomaddict5279  Рік тому

      I think it's just to reinforce the surface in which the inserts are installed so it's sturdier, given how much weight is going to potentially be on the bed platform. It also provides a template of sorts for the L track to lineup to you so you don't have to measure every single hole that you would bolt the old track into.
