This saved me! I had to learn this soliloquy in 3 days and perform it in front of my psychology class. I learn better by hearing it, and this is the best version I have found of this. Thank you. A thousand times, thank you!
My goodness, I love this. Shakespeare's words, illustrating Hamlet's inner conflict, just beautiful. I think this may be the best soliloquy ever written. Ever.
“ O PEACEFUL SLEEP! WITH WHAT SUBTLE MEANING DID THE GREEK CALL THEE THE LESSER MYSTERY, AT THE FEAST WHEREOF THE GREATER MYSTERY IS DEATH. ” - LONGFELLOW *
@happinessinmagazines Perhaps it will help to know that in the script it is specificly said that the girl is to be placed in such a way that there is no doubt that Hamlet has seen her. There for I think it's important to remember that Hamlet is trying to seem like he's mentally ill infront of her (ophelia I think her name is?). Anyways, I personally like to read "That flesh is heir to" in a way to mirror the fact that his own uncle killed his father (flesh and blood etc.)
I was listening 2 this over nd over 4 my English class i had 2 memorize from "to be or not to be.."all the way to " must give us pause" i helped me so much i said it in front of the whole class nd they clapped at the end(: lol

'Thus conscience does make cowards of us all' is my favourite line.
Tom's voice is like a sweet sap that slowly bleeds from a cold tree...

Taking this soliloquy out of the context of hamlet I feel as though it describes the American middle class
