*Apologies. In the narrative of the film I state that I am using yellow ochre in my palette where in fact I am using raw sienna which I find is more transparent and warmer than yellow ochre.
In this film artist Andy Beck describes how he sketches outdoors using very simple and lightweight equipment. Light pencil drawing is followed by washes of watercolour and very little detailed work. The location of this sketch is Bowes Castle near Barnard Castle in County Durham UK.
NEW FEATURE: If you have enjoyed this film and found it informative why not "buy me a coffee" as a reward for my time and efforts? www.buymeacoff...
You will see that there is no sponsorship within the film, Andy makes these films solo and free from affiliation to share his days out on the landscape where he sketches and paints.
Thank you

I enjoy the videos Andy! Thanks!
Thank you Wayne, glad that you enjoyed it.
I like sketches more than “finished” painting ... especially from skilled artists like you because you can “feel” the subject as if you were there rather than with layers of afterthoughts, so to speak.
Thanks for posting the whole session both because it was really fun and relaxing to be part of the moment and because it give an honest view of how long it takes and how it’s done. Inspiring!
Thanks for the kind comment Celine. I wasn't sure it showing the whole process would have been too long but it seems to have been worthwhile.
A half hour well spent. Thanks -
Thanks William glad that you enjoyed it.
Absolutely loved this! I could watch you paint all day long!
Thank you Melissa

Thank you very much for sharing your work and techniques Andy. I am from Brazil and also do Plain Air watercolours and am learning a lot from you! BTW, would love to see some paintins you do outdoors (with the tripod structures).
Best!
Hello Andy, I enjoyed viewing you in the field. Enjoyed listening you your words, a little varied from my own here north of Boston.
Thank you Ed
Aaargh, why has it taken me so long to discover this channel? Subbed! Excellent content, thank you.
Thank you.
Quite apart from your incredible drawing and painting skills - don’t sell yourself short, you are almost on my doorstep too. So I am finding lots of subjects close to home through your vids and thank you for that. I have to say I have ordered the paintbox!!
Thank you April.
I am enjoying your videos very much and hope you do a lot more painting ones. You make it look so easy . Its very relaxing watching you. Thanks Andy
Thank you Robert, in my next video which I am currently editing it combines both the walking and painting :)
Thanks - a really fascinating insight into how you work. You make it look so easy. Here's a vote for you to do a film looking at how you choose your colour palette. Would be interesting to know how your approach may differ when in the field or in the studio.
Thank you for the comment Philip, glad that you enjoyed it. I don't claim to be a "master" at this stuff but I am more than happy to pass on my thoughts and experiences.
Love this Mr.B :)
Thank you Lesley

Thank you James for the kind comment.
Hi Andy, I just found your channel - I love it! You're making me want to get outside and film some more sketching vids :)
Thanks Josie. Thats one of the reasons that I make the films, to inspire others. Go for it :)
Thank you
You're welcome
This is so beautiful! Just found your channel, and you got a new subscriber. Thank you very much for your art! It's amazing!
Thank you Helen
I also would like to ask Do you ever use some of your sketches or your other artwork and make calendars of them? They’re absolutely beautiful and would be quite a treasure as well. Just asking, if you do that would be a delight to have. Jim
Hi James, thank you for the kind comment. I haven't made calendars from my artwork as yet, not something I have seriously considered but I may look into it.
Fab video. Great insight into how you work out your drawing, perspective and colour. Can I assume yellow ochre is a favourite colour? It’s always one of the first to need replacing in my palette!
Thanks Georgie. Your comment has made me aware of an error in the film. It's not Yellow Ochre but Raw Sienna (Raw sienna is more transparent that yellow ochre). I have no idea why Yellow Ochre came into my head when I was doing the narrative on the filming. Yes, I like Raw Sienna as it produces some greens which are less intense than those mixed with cadmium yellow etc and suit the typical moorland colours in my locality. I plan to do a film on colours shortly. Apologies for my mistake. Thanks for watching and commenting.
As a fellow artist, Andy, I really enjoyed watching you work. Did you ever make a video about the field box as you mentioned you would? I can’t see one if so. Thanks, Chris
Hi Chris, Thanks for the comment. The field box vid is next on my list to do.
@@AndyBeckTeesdale I’d still love to see a video on your field box if the opportunity arises 😀
Amazing technique! Follow. Your link for instagram does not seem to work, but I have found you 😁
Thank you Montse
Mr. Beck,
I would like to purchase your book and have it autographed Is that a possibility?
I could certainly purchase it here in the states However I would like the real meal deal.
Please let me know. Blessings to you thank you, Jim
Hi James, Thank you for the interest in my book. All the copies are personally signed and numbered and it would be a pleasure to put a personal message in there to you as well. I ship to the US quite often despite the P&P being a cost due to the book weighing 2.5kg. Here is the link to buying a copy for shipping to the US. andybeckartist.co.uk/product/wainwrights-in-colour-book-usa-shipping/ just let me know if I can be of furthr assistance.
Dear Mr. Beck,
I have tried to order your book however there’s been an error in doing so I’m up to having four books ordered and I only want one. I don’t know if it’s the website or something on my end but I tried getting out and starting over and it still is doing the same thing. Sorry for the difficulty but if you have a way to look on your end I would like to order 1 book 🙏🏼
Hi James, I apologise that you have had issues with ordering a copy of the book. I am looking into why this might be. In the meantime, if you would like to drop me and email to: info@andybeckimages.co.uk I will email you directly. Thank you
