The beginning of this video brought tears to my eyes. Bob seemed so proud to have been asked to share his story for YT awww :) I cannot believe how the older generation always have such magnificent memories .. and so detailed!! I love hearing my grandad's stories not only because it's interesting but he has such passion, just like this gentleman. 5 stars!
7 October 2012 The Wellington Square in Los Angeles at my Mother's living room was the location for this film. Mr. Bob Mitchell was the epitome of class. I was fortunate to re-connect with him after an absence of 40 years. My younger brother Frederick Warren Penick told me stories of his time in the company of Mr. Bob Mitchell and the team of singers from the Mitchell's Boys Choir as he experienced life as an entertainer and singer par excellence. The other soloist was Jim Brown. T.P.
7/8/09 Thank you for your kind words, muggchum. I just saw Mr. Bob Mitchell about 5 months ago at my Mom's home. He is an excellent organ teacher as well as a fine pianist. When one passes, there is a lot of good things that are recalled by those that knew him. He wanted any money that might accrue to him to go a church in Sierra Madre, CA. I gave him my word that his wish would be granted. I live up to my word as much as I am able to do so and I fully intend to do just that. Thank you! Thomas
7/8/09 thank you is a bittersweet way of expressing my appreciation for bringing me this news, Velostigmat. Mr. Mitchell acted in many hours of film for me that I still must put on the Google UA-cam network. Recently, he came over to my Mom's' home to work with her on her organ. My nephew and I picked him up, escorted him every step of the way with me on his left side and my nephew, Christopher, on his right side. He needed this attention. He is around 97. He has been Family since the 1960's T
Thanks, Sportiboy. He was born in 1912. He'll be 94 on Oct. 12th. Yes, Mr. Mitchell is a delightfully charming gentleman in every sense of the word. He is eager to go before the cameras. He told me that he can talk forever since he has a lot of energy. It was a pleasure to work with him. My younger brother, Frederick, was one of two featured soloists for him in the late 1960's and early 1970's. He also sang at Marlo Thomas' wedding to Phil Donahue by her personal request. "cat"
July 8, 2009 St. Brendan's Church in Sierra Madre, CA. muggchum. Mr. Mitchell played the organ at many many many many different churches throughout the Los Angeles area. My brother, Frederick was the featured soloist for the Mitchell's Boys Choir in the late 1960's and early 1970's. The other soloist was a young man by the name of Jim Brown. Marlo Thomas who married Phil Donahue, heard Frederick sing and asked that he sing at her wedding to Phil. This is what he did and he was ecstatic! Thomas
October 6, 2012 Saturday West Coast Hollywood United States of America I have been incredibly blessed to have known and worked with 2 OUTSTANDING GENTLEMEN of the 1st rank, Mr. BOB MITCHELL FOUNDER OF MITCHELL'S BOYS CHOIR - CHOIR TO THE STARS, CIRCA 1940'S and GORDON PARKS, SR. on "LEADBELLY" 1974 - 1975 Paramount Pictures. My Brother Frederick Warren Penick was the featured soloist for the Mitchell's Boys Choir in the late 1960's and early 1970's. Marlo Thomas heard Frederick sing.
3/23/09 I saw Mr. Mitchell on the 20th of March 2009. He played the organ at my Mom's birthday. He is 96 and still quite active playing the organ at the Silent Movie Theatre and at various churches in the Los Angeles area. "cat"
6 October 2012 West Coast Hollywood The Selby United States of America Presidential Suite Mr. Bob Mitchell was the kindest person that I have ever met. He was blessed with immense gentleness and a genteel nature; perhaps this was attributable to his Mother, Florence Mitchell. I know that he owed a GREAT DEAL to his initial foray into his passion. Mothers have the capacity to accomplish a great deal in the formative years of their children. Mr. Bob Mitchell was a sing example of this. I learned.
Love you Mr. Mitchell. I know "You little Sons of Bitches" meant I love you boys. You are missed and cherished in my heart. This "HI FRED" is for you. I hope you're Swinging on a Star.
He was very attuned to his image, as if this was one of the big pictures that he had worked on in the past. As part of that, whenever the camera rolled he was always in character, tireless story teller and it is all true. He actually played the piano as well as the organ in the later interviews. He still has the magical touch for both instruments. Amazing how little money he made at the start of his career. Thanks for your insights on this first review, NamaeganaiFilms. "cat"
I hope to resolve the sound compression problem by Oct. 12, 2006 since that is his 93rd birthday. Both of us are looking forward to the series! Your review of this initial segment is much appreciated, Urgelt. "cat"
I first heard the boys sing Boy Scout songs in the 1950s on the radio. His own song,"If you would like to lose your blues." is a wonderful up tempo march like tune that's still very modern. The choir sings it at the beginning and end of the 10 minute 1941 film "Forty Boys and a Song"...its here on UA-cam.
I was lucky enough to meet him and see him perform on the Wurlitzer organ in his old age. I sat next to him in a very ornate movie palace. He gave me his business card. I still have it. He handwrote his phone # on the card.
OMG my grandma would do the same thing to me with sticks...she would say.."Shtefy, go pick your sheeba". Just thinking about it gives me shivers!! Great interview! I'd leave a better comment, but I HAVE to see the next one &:0)
11.25.06 Stefaneedee. This was done to me as well. Take your choice of Switch or Belt. After a while, I tensed my muscles in anticipation of the Belt and I was able to not utter a sound. The Switch was something else. It would wrap around and hit a fella thrice. I hated the switch. Thank God we have progressed, or have we? "cat"
OCTOBER 7, 2012 HOLLYWOOD Mr. Bob Mitchell's hope, dream and LOVE was to have his OWN STAR on the HOLLYWOOD WALK OF FAME. On my 1st day on the job as CITY COUNCILMAN for the Hollywood District 13, I will make this my GENERAL ORDER #1. Bob Mitchell, legendary Founder of Mitchell's Boys Choir, in their heyday known as THE CHOIR TO THE STARS will have his wish granted with the most ABSOLUTE PLEASURE, BAR NONE!!!! There will be an ANNUAL Bob Mitchell Day of Celebration in Hollywood. THOMAS
11.25.06 Featherflow. He was INDEED proud. He is more than eager to help me on this and I made a FIRM GENTLEMAN'S AGREEMENT between us that I would share any profits with him. We did not need to sign a contract on this. My word is my bond as it is with Mr. Bob Mitchell. His memory is almost photographic as mine used to be....when I was a lad. [0] "cat"
14 March 2012 One learns a great deal of invaluable life lessons by spending time in the company of our elders. The sense of history, the knowledge that these bearers of wisdom and history have lived a full life and willing to share that wealth of knowledge with us willingly is encouraging. I have more footage of Mr. Mitchell. I will post it. best, Thomas Marshall Penick

St. Brendan's Church in Sierra Madre, California is the entity that he dearly loved. I honor this. I honor my word with Bob. T
The lighting on the left side of his face was intentional. I wanted to feature that side of his face. Again, this was a continuing experiment with lighting & sound on my part. The next time, I'll bounce some light to fill in the foreground a bit & brighten the right side of his face. "cat"
