A word of caution if you're on sloping ground, is not to be tempted to cut into the slope. If you level the ground by cutting into the slope, rather than raising the ground at the lower side, you could end up creating something more like a swimming pool in the wetter months. My dad did exactly that 😂.
So how did you match the true grade just put boards on all 4 sides and use a level? This is what I started doing last weekend they got rained out but I made the mistake of trenching the sides I’ll prob do this and take the whole middle down and loosen it much easier to level I’ve got serious red clay tree roots and rocks perfect place to start 😂… but I’m probably going potted plants so was never too worried about the under layer I may improve it over time to plant in but for now lumber foundation and rocks with pots… am I correct you laid boards each way to get your level ?
