“Used brick” is likely more expensive because clay bricks from different runs don’t color match. They are betting contractors would pay more to get bricks from identical runs even if their used. Traditional red clay brick and cinder block new are pumped out in the hundreds of millions if not billions so they are cheaper new, but will probably not color match.
Funny thing about those "used" bricks, many places don't sell real used bricks... they're just selling bricks that have been tumbled and have a little concrete and paint splashed on them to look worn and used because demand for actual used bricks tends to outstrip supply.
D W we did up my grandparents today lace and sold the bricks 200 years old plus I reckon for nearly £2.50 each. On one we could see where an otter had walked on it as it was setting and left its paw print!

A brick that survives a drop isn't necessarily better than one that break, because the loads that bricks have to take are almost never suddent impacts of hundreds of Gs. In fact, a brick that's tougher under impact is likely to be far weaker under compression, and therefore unsuitable for use in multi-story buildings.

If you look around on UA-cam, you should be able to find the formula for making the bricks, and to build a press for these bricks is not that difficult. All you need is some land, clay, sand, cement and oxides, plus some willing laborers. The only thing is that the bricks take 4 to 5 weeks to cure, before they can be used. They also need to be tested to confirm compressive, shear strengths and water absorption.
Cinderblock brick had rebar in it which reinforces it to stay together. Fun fact, rebar is actually in alot of cinderblock walls to hold them together.

It wasn't strength but durability. E.g. how well they can be shipped and handled onsite without damaging them. Strength is different as you mention, and is more important to the engineers and architects designing the buildings that use them

The "used" clay brick is for face purposes, it's to be used in a decorative manner. Majority of "used" bricks aren't actually used but new bricks put through a tumbling process.
Used brick is used for mostly repair work in my experience. The idea is that the bricks fade so now bright red ones will stand out. They are more expensive because they have to be chipped out of a wall being demolished.

The "used" clay brick is for face purposes, it's to be used in a decorative manner. Majority of "used" bricks aren't actually used but new bricks put through a tumbling process.
Used brick is used for mostly repair work in my experience. The idea is that the bricks fade so now bright red ones will stand out. They are more expensive because they have to be chipped out of a wall being demolished.
