    On Saturday I bought a 1970 mk1 2000 gt Capri 😁 I’ve turned more heads in the last 5 days then I have in my whole 55 year life!!! It’s a stunning looking car totally restored and I’m pretty sure it turns more heads then any super car!!

    Nice classic back when they were current i built a motor for my 2.8 injection, it was a 2.8 block with cosworth crank bored and stroked to 3.6l. Fitted with 2.9 big valve ported heads, reworked block to take a chain driven 2.9 fast road cam. 2.9 6 runner manifold and plenum reworked for k jet with shorter injectors from escort rs turbo, finally custom fabricated headers. A lot of work but kept the engine number correct and looking fairly standard under hood. It made 300hp with ancillarys fitted on a engine dyno. Mated to a modified 5speed to stop laygear bearings destroying themselves all being fed to road with standard lsd. It livened it up and taught you about oversteer! Sold for peanuts before they became desirable.

    I remember having a full stainless exhaust fitted to my Escort RS Turbo. Apparently it was the first in the UK at the time. I had a dump valve fitted and K&N at the same time. I think it must of been a couple of weeks before I turned the stereo on. I just loved listening to hearing the turbo spool up, the exhaust roar and the dump valve when changing gear. Really good times.

    Totally agree with you that modern cars insulate u frm every little thing. I think that if i let a 2000 born person 1 of my 1st cars bk in the day they would think that it was a track car or something for the weekend (it was a mk1 Escort). Sensory overload would come to mind for people of a certain age.

    You can tell that’s been well built especially the way it can drive about the streets at 30 mph no problem and yet can burst into life when accelerator is planted and still no miss a beat! By the way the exhaust system to me keeps the car looking the way a 2.8 injection was and it suits it to a tee! Good video again mt

    • @chrisclarke6344

      Have to disagree real 2.8 boxes were much smaller these just look to big and ruin the lines of the capri.

    • @brianpender7872
      @brianpender7872 2 роки тому +1

      @@chrisclarke6344 yeah the boxes on the 2.8 were smaller but in reality sitting behind it you would think it was v6 with 2 exhausts instead of a cossie motor that’s what I was getting at

    • @chrisclarke6344
      @chrisclarke6344 2 роки тому

      @@brianpender7872 yes but it would look cleaner with just tailpipes, those boxes make it look like an 80s sierra or fiesta with the huge 'ive been tuned' exhaust. I had stock tail pipes on mine and they flowed well enough for a n/a 3.6 motor to make 300hp, see my other comment in this item for full description of that build. Its horses for courses but i prefer the discreet looks of standard or near standard pipes, it helps with the 'Q' car look as well.

    • @brianpender7872
      @brianpender7872 2 роки тому +1

      @@chrisclarke6344 yeah it could look cleaner with the smaller pipes I agree but with the overall build quality that rusty had done to the car was remarkable and I don’t think after the story of this car that I could change those back boxes on it to anything else! That’s the way he built it and it’s tribute to him ! Cheers Chris will check out your link mt!

    • @chrisclarke6344
      @chrisclarke6344 2 роки тому

      @@brianpender7872 yes it is a piece of history, its just my take on the exhausts, never been a fan of big boxes whether they on capris, sierras, imprezas, evos etc. It was his choice and car should stay as it is. Personally i would rather see 15" 7 spokes from the 280 brooklands as well especially as its painted in the brooklands green. But the cross spokes were the builders choice so should all remain as it is. Its a nice capri wish i still had mine! Got a jag xfr with 600hp now but the capri was a driving experience especially in the wet!

    Modern cars are overly refined, the driver is isolated from the actual driving experience- which is sterile and not very engaging as a general rule. Older cars are far more involving to drive, which makes them a much more interesting experience. DSG gearboxes on modern tin do all the work for the driver- and reduce driver involvement. It's far more rewarding to use a manual box- because it requires thought process and driver engagement. There is nothing better than getting a splash gear change absolutely spot on, it's very rewarding because it requires some skill on behalf of the driver. Even in terms of steering feel, old cars beat modern tin- they now use electric power steering- which once again, reduces feedback and feel from the driver- making the experience sterile and uninvolving. I own two classics- an 84 'A' plate Capri Injection which I have owned for nigh on 28 years, it's modified extensively beneath the skin and punts out 285 Bhp and a tad under 300 lbs ft of torque. It is hugely satisfying to drive, with excellent driveability when pottering around at 30 mph. It's civilised and docile- but when you put the hammer down, it turns into an animal! Driving it at normal road speeds, is extremely satisfying and engaging- the sound of the engine and exhaust note, swopping cogs, meaty feeling power steering etc. I also own a 1971 Rover P6 3500 auto- it's a fabulous car to drive- superb ride quality- far better than *any* modern car in terms of ride comfort. The sound of the V8 wuffle is deeply satisfying- even whilst bimbling around at low speeds. It's such an involving experience- sensory overload springs to mind. It's an effortless cruiser- ideal for touring. It generates a huge amount of attention on the road and at petrol stations- it has an innate quality which many people appreciate. It's far more rewarding to own and drive than any modern metal. Bottom line? Older cars like Rusty's Capri are very involving and rewarding machines to own and drive- they have soul. Modern cars are less involving, more complex and generally SOULLESS. Real driver's appreciate this point! Enjoyed seeing this legendary Capri cruising around it's home town! Thanks for sharing! :)
