If I remember right the band said the song isn't about drug use. It's about one of the band being very sick as a kid and being in the hospital. The illness had him feeling "comfortably numb." The "pin prick" was actually medicine. I listen to the classic rock station where I live and the DJ has talked about it many times.
The cover art is from Dark Side of the Moon. Comfortably Numb is from The Wall. 😀 Don’t listen to just one song from Dark Side...listen to the whole album, it’s not that long. Wish you were Here is amazing...song and album. Enjoy!
The Wall album if you listen to all of it paints a whole story. Comfortably numb was a popular single from the album. It an album to listen to in it's entirety sometime if you have a spare hour and a half on your own.
I was just trying to explain this to a cpl of my kids a cpl of days ago. The best I could come up with is it’s like a series of books. Each one can be appreciated separately or even in the wrong order but if you put them all together in the correct order it tells a much larger much more complete story.
Pink Floyd's music has a way of doing,... everything you just felt! Their music speaks to a persons soul, it takes the listener on a cerebral journey. You're right about them being formed in London, it was 1965, and today, they've sold over 400 million albums world wide. That's good enough for 2nd place in Rock history, along with Led Zeppelin,... The Beatles, of course, are #1 at over 600 million. Since you asked, I've got some Pink Floyd suggestions for you. As far as live performances, their 1994 Pulse Concert at Earls Court is as memorable as you can get, phenomenal performances. "Comfortably Numb" is a must at this show, it's quite a different performance, with a 4 minute solo to end the song! Some others are "Sorrow", "High Hopes", "Learning To Fly", "Money", "One Of These Days", and more. All from the Pulse Concert.

Floyd is by far my favorite band of all time. Check out more of their work as they make great music. This particular song is deeper than you realize. It’s basically about Roger Waters (a founding member) being pumped full with drugs when he was really too sick to perform, but the band tour manager insisted they play on. You should watch the movie “The Wall” which explains his life in detail as the music from the album of the same name plays out. It’s quite amazing and disturbing at the same time.
In case you missed it, Watch the live version of this from Pulse concert 1994, remastered/Reedited. It its far more satisfying and amazing than the Studio original! From the same concert, Sorrow, Keep Talking, One of these days, Run Like Hell. You also can enjoy live, the most Amazing album they ever did from start to finish Dark Side Of The Moon, live at Pulse 1994!! Be prepared to be transported to a higher plane!!
I understand the 60's and 70's are infamously known for the drug culture. But Roger Waters wrote this song and in an interveiw he explained that much of the song was written about what happened to him when trying to perform in Philadelphia. He said a doctor gave him a sedative for a severe stomach ache and while onstage, playing his hands felt numb and his vision blurred. But none of this effected the crowd and they continued to sing along and dance. And it was out of this that the lyrics came about.
A stoner song from stoner days gone by...this album was played while my friends and I would fire up and relax, laid back and sang along at night on the beach. A master of an album from start to finish. Can't listen to any song on this album without thinking I wish I could be 'relaxing' right now...it goes hand in hand with me for this entire album....followed by Led Zeppelin's "Houses of The Holy" album...drink and sing staring at the stars...sleep on the beach with cool breezes, campfire, sounds of the waves, on the North Shore of Hawaii. Pink Floyd's first album was released in 1967, but they didn't hit their commercial success until the 1973 album 'Dark Side of the Moon'. Comfortably Numb is from their 1979 album 'The Wall', which was the last with bassist, vocalist & primary lyricist Roger Waters. So many of the iconic Rock artists of the Sixties & Seventies were English (Beatles, Rolling Stones, Who, Pink Floyd, Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Fleetwood Mac...and the list goes on).
do your soul a favor, watch this same song but the Pulse Live Remastered version...the solo is unbelievable and the emotions expressed both lyrically and instrumentally are heavenly sourced. Another Brick in the Wall and Time are must listens. Thanks for playing my era of music but you can go back another 20 years. You want your mouth to hang open look up Cab Calloway & Nicholas Brothers in Jumpin Jive from the movie Stormy Weather in 1943. Start to watch on your own if you start to like the react . If you weren't far away I'd knock on your door and say watch this.
You need to watch the Pink Floyd movie called “The Wall”It’s about the childhood of Bob Geldof as he sits in a hotel room with chemicals induced flashbacks and hallucinations. Its absolutely wonderfully done with “The soundtrack from the album”The Wall”.
The movie "The Wall" a Hollywood film adaptation of the original Pink Floyd album, is about the character portrayed in the album called Pink. Bob Geldof merely portrays that character. The film has nothing to do about Geldof himself.
This song is part of a complete story which can be found on "The Wall" album (and movie). The message isnt totally clear but it is about a guys life journey. I believe it was inspired by one of their members (Roger Waters) and is somewhat biographical of his struggle with fame and drugs
Yes you should listen to more Pink Floyd. I suggest you listen to "Time" next. Be warned the intro is very long! I think the studio albums are great but live is even better.
@Edward McGuire If it was the Us + Them tour, that's Roger Waters you saw. Not David Gilmour. Roger wrote the lyrics, plays bass, and sang the verses. David wrote the music, plays guitar, and sang the chorus.

Kabir, new subscriber here. I’ve been begging other reactors to react to Pink Floyd ECHOES Part 1 and 2 Live in Pompeii. It’s just beautiful and shows them in a live performance as very young artists. Please watch the live video, not lyrics. Don’t worry. You’ll understand every word. Much love from Texas.
This song isn't actually about drugs, but rather about a bad flu that Roger Waters got once, a flu that came with a fever of 105 and delirium. The lines, "When I was a child I had a fever/My hands felt just like two balloons", are autobiographical, talking about how his hands had swollen with the high-fever flu. Yes, there's a connection to former Pink Floyd guitarist and vocalist, Syd Barrett (who left in 1968 after his psychedelic drug usage started causing his mental state to deteriorate [there's speculation that he was schizophrenic, in addition to him becoming depressed and socially withdrawn, as opposed to his formerly jovial, friendly, and extroverted self]), but it's more autobiographical than anything.
Kabir, have you never heard "The Wall"? in my opinion. their best (double) album ever. This song is from that album. There was a partially animated movie based on it, and seeing as you are into anime, you might consider checking it out if you can find it. If that song took you on a journey, imagine where the whole album could take you. I was 19 when this was released. (YA! I KNOW... i'm old! lol) Another great one. Thanks

That Iconic prism has become the de facto symbol for all things Pink Floyd. It wasn't intended that way, but The Dark Side of the Moon was such a universally acclaimed masterpiece that it essentially came to define them.

Everybody has this thing about "Studio" version. Groups like Pink Floyd are better live than studio. At least post Roger Waters they are. Actually they were good with Roger too. The 1994 Pulse Concert Remastered reedited version blows every single version away. When you do the studio you get the weird voices to begin the song, which no one ever understands. That would be because its parts from earlier songs and parts of the story. Oh and Not, not a good song to drive to. No telling how many speeding tickets and accidents happened from someone becoming Comfortably Numb.
That's true for some of their songs but not all of them. I'll agree that the Pulse version of Comfortably Numb is unbeatable. But some songs, notably for me The Great Gig In The Sky, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, and Time really are sonically superior in the studio versions. Nobody has ever match Claire Torrey's vocals in GGITS. It just can't be done.
Pink Floyd's later music is criminally underrated. "Keep Talking" is one of my favorite songs. I'd also really enjoy seeing you react to the Gunship song called "Tech Noir".
@@fenster666 I said their later music. I'm referring to the albums like "the division bell" and "a momentary lapse of reason". Almost nobody knows anything about their later catalog of music

Kabir you must watch the PF video Pink Floyd - Run Like Hell PULSE remastered 2019. You will love it.😁
I’ll check it out!
I was born in 1960 and had the privilege of growing up in what I believe was the best time for music ever but that is just my opinion
listened to this with "cid"
Another good Pink Floyd song is another brick in the wall
Not so much about extracurriculars but they were really good at thinking about it.
Hi Rachel, I’ll put it on my list :)
No need to pause at all...you won't have copyright problems with Pink Floyd. Just bsit back, relax and take it all in.
Ahhh.... Pink Floyd. Just, yes please and thank you.
Comfortably numb live pulse 1994
Put Dark Side of the Moon on, grab a drink, close your eyes and get lost in Pink Floyd!
The Pulse Live version has an extra 5 minutes of that outro solo.
Just sayin.
Kabir, have you never heard "The Wall"? in my opinion. their best (double)
album ever. Thanks
I haven’t! I’ll check it out
This album came out in 1973
The album in the picture did, but the song and album it was on, came out in 1979
song from 1979
I would watch doing music videos. UA-cam has been cracking down on it
Yeah music videos are too risky these days 😩
Dude if you liked it, watch

And if you really want to dip into the deepest rabbit hole in rock music, then work your way through the album
The Dark Side of the Moon 😉
Haha, you’re playing a track from “The Wall”, but showing the cover art for “Dark Side Of The Moon”. Whoopsie. 😂
That Iconic prism has become the de facto symbol for all things Pink Floyd. It wasn't intended that way, but The Dark Side of the Moon was such a universally acclaimed masterpiece that it essentially came to define them.
Kabir, my friend, LA Speed Story... just saying. 😀
It’s coming!

The Reno Air Races are coming up next month, hopefully they'll livestream it again . .
happy trip?
You should do "Freebird" by Lynyrd Skynyrd in my opinion one of the top 3 guitar solos of all time behind Jimmy Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn
Criminally underrated? They're consistently rated in the top best bands of all time, I don't think they're underrated at all.
@@fenster666 I said their later music. I'm referring to the albums like "the division bell" and "a momentary lapse of reason". Almost nobody knows anything about their later catalog of music
