Although I was frustrated a little at the pace of the first interview, I am wondering whether it was done on purpose; Robin is known to be a very private and shy guy, and maybe Tessa figured that the more space she gave him, the more comfortable he'd feel. He hardly ever gives interviews, and I was so stoked to see all his gear. Thanks for filming this PG!
Am I the only one who loves how shy Robin is at the beginning? The social interaction around the 6 minute mark when Tessa asks the very intelligent and personal question, “Isn’t that one of your things...part of your playing that you use feedback?” is where you finally see Robin relax. Tessa did an amazing job, she let the artist speak on behalf of their gear which was great, good work PG!
I'm an introvert, so I think Robin is so cute. Jelous, she gets a hug from him it went on too long for him at the original. He looked at the camera as if to say help me
Robin is a really shy guy, very rarely does any interviews, so it’s great to see this. It’s not the best rig rundown but at least he’s doing it and not his guitar tech. Big fan of his playing regardless. Edit - his tech does speak...
Actually, the longer I watched the interview I found the interaction between the two very interesting. It was fascinating watching the interviewer gently bringing Robin out of his shell. She did an excellent job! And it was really cool that he gave her a hug at the end!
I love Robin so much. The fact that he really doesn't care about all the specs and technical stuff and more about just what guitar sounds like the way he wants to express the emotion of the song is interesting to me. That's how it sounds when he plays. You're feeling it, not just hearing it.
Love Robin work, so underrated, is definitevely not a big youtube influencer, too humble for this , but on stage is a monster and fit NIN perfectly, his sound and dynamic are brilliant.
Tessa did fine. Robin's speaking style has a cadence that results in interviewer and interviewee inadvertently talking at the same time. No big deal. We still received a good rundown of his guitars, and his tech Lonnie provided a nice succinct summary of the signal path.
Finck: "I use this guitar cause it has Sustainiac pickup, it's for a specific song" Tessa: "hm.. so what do you like about the Sustainiac pickup? and is it your main guitar?" No, dude, Tessa didn't do fine :D I'm not saying we should nail her to a cross.. I just wish the usual Premier guys would do this :) the ones that actually play guitar and has real in depth knowledge :)
You can tell he was sick at the time. I doubt he wanted to shake anyone's hand after dealing with a runny nose when giving an interview for 40 minutes.
It's just observational humor. It was a good interview! I know next to nothing about NIN now. I really dug a lot of the early stuff and my son has introduced newer songs that I really dig. I wouldn't be too upset. I didn't know who Robin is and appreciate him more and funny is good!
The honesty and pure representations on all parties was refreshing and amazing. I don't want canned and rehearsed hyper media trained interactions. This was so real, and was a solid glimpse into some of the most talented artists of our generation. Well done.
I don't think the initial awkwardness is either person's fault, it's just that neither of them are bubbly people. In reality, they probably felt pretty comfortable together. Right away, this guy felt comfortable enough to take these big long pauses trying to get his brain working and she was comfortable enough to just let the silence sit there and give him his space. After a few minutes, you can see it's just a no-nonsense discussion of his gear, which he has difficulty putting into words but she is good at prying something out of him. I get the feeling if she didn't ask questions he would just be like, "Here's my guitar...and here's my other guitar...and here's my other guitar..." which is kind of pointless. I think people here are just used to Rebecca Dirks being more fangirlish and the guitarists eating it up because they like attention from young women.
Man everyone with rude comments needs to stop. This is the very Nine Inch Nails rig rundown these guys hardly ever do setup interviews talking about their rigs. The past few years they broke from their shyness shell give fans inside look.

Why does your name say J. Richie? That's confusing. Also, I think that you came across a bit disinterested, I'm not saying that you were by any means, but I think that it might have helped if you maybe repeated what he said to you back to him and followed up with a question then it could have flowed a bit more smoothly. I think the question choice was great, but maybe working on the flow and pace of the interview would have been good.
This is by far the best and funniest rig rundown ever. I stopped watching them because they became quite boring and repetitive but this is golden. I have not laughed so hard in a while. Robin rules.
Whilst I like the idea of Fluff doing rig rundowns, I can´t help but to symaphize with Tessa here. If I was to be thrown into the situation she has to deal with here (doing a "professional" gear rundown with pro musicians for what seems to be the first time) I´d completely choke, especially with NIN who are one of the best examples of what PRO means with them making use of whatever modern technology becomes available to them. All things considered - she did a good job. Keep going please and don´t let the haters get to you....
I love Robin, but I think this is the first interview I've really heard him speak about his craft and gear. Surprising that he doesn't highlight the songs that he plays nightly or with which guitars he uses (other than a few). He must have a hell of a recall memory the night of each show. Really good to hear from Alessandro, too. It's no wonder how he got within Trent's circle with a passion for synths and multi-instruments the way he has.
Yeah Alessandro is a very cool guy. After watching a bunch of vids with him I felt the same -- I'm like ahhh ok now it makes sense why Trent hired him so quick. His music is fantastic. He has an uncanny ability to get feel from noise.
I love Robin. Trent recently surmised his attention perfectly in that Robin is "fragmented." I couldn't agree more, and I totally relate to how my thought process vs what comes out of my mouth is usually. :D
I really liked this one-I know nothing of the band but this is one of my favorites RRs. Both artists were great interviews in their own way. What a great bass (telemaster)!

But we love Robin ❤️ we're both introverts, so I tell how uncomfortable he is at times. I know exactly how he felt. So sweet. It was lovely listening to him x on the first cut she wouldn't let go off of Robin. They've cut it now. I'd be the same. I'm cuddling Robin Finck and no I'm not letting go. Im also whispering inappropriate things in his ear like my hotel room number
I really don't understand people and their comments. Way cool to see Robin in this rig video. The guy is awesome. Many of you would be shy and awkward in front of a camera also. He's human!
Damn, I've probably met Alessandro many times when I was a little kid without even knowing who he was at the time. It's so crazy when you think that the guitarist from Nine Inch Nails is from the same city where I went to school every day.
I would just stop him and “show me which button you push to make the bee Boop womp womp ekleklekleklek skeeeeee rooosh sounds in all of Trent’s songs “
Alessandro is pretty used to doing media interviews so he helped redeem this episode. Among us synth addicts Alessando is considered a high priest. He knows his guitars, too.
I give her credit for trying. Let’s see her do a few more videos. She has big shoes to fill. But she doesn’t seem like a gear nerd. I agree Ryan Bruce would be awesome at this job. You need people that are excited for just the gear and the interviews are a perk
What a lovely trip to Nerdland. Love the interviewer’s open approach, she really is prepared and also hangs in there - some interviewees must be allowed their time and space and then they may return the most wonderful conversations, such as both of these.
1:55 LOLOLOL! She moves on to the next question, he keeps adding semi-unrelated info for the first question! This is hilarious. He's gotta be doing that on purpose.
this exchange is a masterpiece of awkwardness and the sheer disrespect of all the testing of drums, police sirens and train noise in the background takes it to a whole other level. a beautiful video.
No one loves Robin more than I, but he is officially uninvited to Christmas dinner. I just kept trying to imagine Trent in one of his intense focused moods trying to convey an idea to Robin and losing his shit waiting for Robin to say a sentence.
Yeah I think Tessa works for the magazine, right? Does the RRs occasionally. It's just different from the other three. It was fine! Robin is pretty shy I believe, and she got of hug of him!
@@pkeepfer - Yeah... Like for one he doesn't seem to know his own gear. Which I think threw her off.. he'd give a short answer and as she starts to ask a different question, he starts to ramble. Awwkward 😂
I like listening too this guy talk. He seems lost or confused or stoned but always gets too the info some how. Dont know him personally but seems layed back and shy. Proto type artist a bit out there. I like his work.
NIN is very techy and it sort of sounds muddled, but it’s actually cleverly design to be like that, so I can understand the use of all those guitars. But I’m wonder if each guitar has its own channel, as that’s a hell of a lot of wireless transmitters, batteries each. Robin knows what all his guitars do; all the different pick-up, mods etc, but he seems a quiet person, not someone that rattles off the specifics of each guitar. I guess he just knows or feels what it’s does, how it sounds, but isn’t the sort of person that can explain it. She did well to interview him, worked out on the fly what would make him relax and chat.
I met Robin once, he was very shy and sweet. The former band that I played bass in for a short while, had a song in a movie. And the singer of that band was Robin’s former roommate back in Atlanta Georgia. So Robin and his girlfriend met us at the theater in Sunset Boulevard. Robin sat beside me for the entire film. I had been a fan since 1994, so needless to say I watched the movie but was unable to pay attention to it at all. I’ve never seen Nails live, so this was a particularly formal introduction.
Robin is a shy guy. Dont be rude yall. he is awesome! She did a great job. he aslo might be tired from all of that touring. But mostly, he is just shy and awkward.
That background “vacuum” noise, random drum tuning and the palpable awkwardness have made this officially a NIN B-side

Robin: I play one guitar at a time.
Tessa (interviewer): in shock says Really?!
Time: 35:08
Like, at that point...it looked like they were about to go on a date or something.
@@WessStewart omg! 😂 😂 😂
this exchange is a masterpiece of awkwardness and the sheer disrespect of all the testing of drums, police sirens and train noise in the background takes it to a whole other level. a beautiful video.
I miss this guy in GN'R
You're not the only one. Robin was magic in Gn'R and his live playing made him by far my favorite guitarist.
He was INCREDIBLE in GnR.
He wrote some of the best stuff on Chinese Democracy
No one loves Robin more than I, but he is officially uninvited to Christmas dinner. I just kept trying to imagine Trent in one of his intense focused moods trying to convey an idea to Robin and losing his shit waiting for Robin to say a sentence.
Watch at 0.5 speed for the most high interview ever.
Michael Tronson Bahahahahaha!!!
Holy shit, so glad I'm drunk and saw this comment. It's like a Tim and Eric episode
OMG - when he says "This Baritone isn't tuned to B its (wait forever and look clueless at 1/2 speed) C??????????????? I cried
Haahahahahahahaha fucked up!!
This made my life.
That was great - I love Alessandro. Such an all-round great player and funny guy! haha
Alessandro seems like an awesome dude.
The hum in the background really makes the video.
sirens too
im glad you are trying out new people for rundowns but this was just awkward
Yeah I think Tessa works for the magazine, right? Does the RRs occasionally. It's just different from the other three. It was fine! Robin is pretty shy I believe, and she got of hug of him!
It’s definitely the dude’s fault. What a weirdo
@@pkeepfer - Yeah... Like for one he doesn't seem to know his own gear. Which I think threw her off.. he'd give a short answer and as she starts to ask a different question, he starts to ramble. Awwkward 😂
She is fine, looks more like a heroin issue going on
@@davidpaul6656 he did seem a little high but I guess when you have that much gear and a tech it gets hard to keep up with
I like listening too this guy talk. He seems lost or confused or stoned but always gets too the info some how. Dont know him personally but seems layed back and shy. Proto type artist a bit out there. I like his work.
Wow, they sure hit it off.
She makes Rebecca Dirks look like the Michael Jordan of Rig Rundown. Rebecca needs to be paid like a billion dollars to come back.
also she got boobs too
This is an outlier, even so Rebecca is better than the entire stable of guys that do the interviews
So glad to see Robin on Rig Rundown!!
The hug! Love that guy
You need to lead the interview. The interviewee shouldn't have to worry about where to go next.
This is a great unintentional ASMR video!
What was the movie?

Awkward date. can relate.
ive been waiting for this for far too long
oh...awkward
FInck had the batteries dying on him. Cortini the usual gentleman, of course.
I love that yellow tele, damn.
Robin is a shy guy. Dont be rude yall. he is awesome! She did a great job. he aslo might be tired from all of that touring. But mostly, he is just shy and awkward.
Glad to see how it evolved to both of them being more relaxed. Do you wanna see the slide? He started enjoying the interview in his own way.
maybe the first rig rundown with an italian guy, so proud of alessandro cortini :D :D
Great rig rundown, no kidding.
Was awesome to see the guys' gear 🤘
